Vape Donkey 650
All vape, no smoke please.
Welp, it looks like I chose the wrong 1st mod out of the gate, especially as it arrived yesterday! All good knowing these limitations up front though. I'll get something else on order.
That said (while waiting for something new) I'd like to be able to play around with the Evic Primo Mini. It will be for use exclusively w/ the Stempod when it arrives, so I'll ask you guys here. Based on your guys experience using it with other devices, any recommendations out of the box?
Sorry if I dashed your enthusiasm for the new evic primo mini with my late, after-the-fact, review after your purchase. At least I think you'll find it does work pretty well as long as the amp / watt load you're throwing at your atomizer isn't too excessive for your battery or the mod, and the temp control does work very well, especially with AF. For most people's low to mid watt vaping, I don't think they'll run into these problems as much.
Also, my experience with getting "battery low" errors might be partially caused by how I've only used it with heavy, multiple ceramic atomizers, which tend to be a bit more massive & slower to warm up compared to metal coil wire type atomizers of a similar size & Ω. I don't think the little notch coils on the stempod will have a problem with "battery low" with the primo mini until at least 20-25% low charge with a good 18650.
But anyways, back to your question, any other recommendation for a mod?
I'm going with a proven classic, a good old evic vtc mini (real old school not even a vtwo mini)
I've had this mod for a couple years at least and it's been exclusively tasked with vaping indica dominant crumbles & honeycombs for me (other strains / types on other boxes & attys) Crumble & honeycomb has become pretty bleh, un-interesting since live resin became more common, so this poor evic hasn't been used much by me lately. By switching this mod over to the stempod, I think I will be motivated to use this evic alot more soon.
And for that lowly old V3 donut for my neglected, dry indica crumbles, I went and bought another cuboid mini to take up those vaping duties. I got this for under $20 on ebay and it works fine as well. I have a bunch of these cuboid minis and I love them for a tiny mod. The only drawback is the internal 2400mah battery, but it makes up for it in compactness. Like the VTC / vtwo mini, this mod will run @funkyjunky's tuboevic, so you can set it to cruise mode and free up your fingers. If you don't mind the overhang and limited battery life and in-mod charging, the cuboid mini isn't a bad choice for a stempod, but the classic big cuboid might be better.
To get used to herbs on my old grey evic, I wanted to test it's old VTC5 with the DT dry herb atty and had a few nice sessions. Inverted screen for GonG water rips! It was this humble 0.8Ω atty that was too much for 40w on the battery on my primo mini. No issue on this mod.
This might be serendipitous timing, apparently the new 25mm EHPro is due out soon: http://www.szehpro.com/project/mod-101-pro/
Edit: with TCR!
Wow, great timing indeed! I saw the announcement for pre-order for this new mod thru the heavengifts newsletter spam I get, (i consider it box mod news ) the next day after you posted this.
Indeed, it does user-set TCR also, very nice! Tbh, the chipset & firmware on this new ehpro tube mod probably isn't as precise / adjustable as many of these joyetech / eleaf mods (with AF) that I'm used to, not even close to a dna or dicodes chip, for sure. The 50w 101mod I have is a bit sluggish yet it still gits'r dun. Maybe they have a better chip on the new 75w version?
I also like how it can run a 20 / 21700 battery too (very nice) which naturally makes it a 25mm diameter, to closer match the stempod. This should be more than enough to handle the stock coils or even some heavy custom builds and offer great battery life for a single cell.
So tempting to not buy this mod haha...it's just on pre-order now. I only see it on heavengifts. It's a bit pricey at $60 bucks, but much less than a dicodes still. HG tends to overprice their gear and even for shipping, but you can usually get a 30% off coupon at holidays. I only see one other place that has this mod. Can anyone else find other places selling this mod?
Thank you a lot useful info there. There also some discussion on mods for sprinter stempod over in diy area. Currently I'm using a dna mod. But have order another to run AF for the stempod.
Learning this one the fly and would love if you could join the discussion over there. A lot of use are new to the mod world. You're experience in mod would really be helpful. Hoping to have a one stop place for mod settings and tweaks. A place to exchange ideals, share files and themes work towards coming up with profile's tailored towards each device.

Dans has been helpful and is ok with me using his logo for my dna profiles/FC theme pack. Once things settle's down. Maybe Dan can make us a make a custom CSV file based on his coil. Not sure whats needed in AF settings. Haven't played with software yet.

Hey glad if I could help. If you read back on that thread you'll see I have a few posts, mostly geeking out about temp stability & PID control. Not much for me to add to the discussion ATM that I wouldn't find better placed in this thread I think...
Yeah put AF on it and enable PI mode for TC(R). Then screw the atty once and never touch it again!
When it works the Primo mini ain't bad don't worry.
Wow so not much to tweak in AF? Spent hours with the dna settings and was hoping I could least customize do some tweaking in AF too? Escribe is so customizable was least hoping Arctic Fox was too.
I'm guess should go back and look at the mac af config and af monitor software see at what it offers. Kinda be bummed if that all you can do with it.
Edit..just checked seems like there's lots of ways to adjust settings with AF and there device monitor looks like its in realtime.
I'm sure the settings keroZen posted would get you vaping just fine. But if looking to get the best performance possible from a new mod. He should join us over in diy discussions

@HerbieVonVapster: ha, indeed there are many settings in AF. My post was just a shortcut for "install and configure it" of course. But the important bit was to enable PI mode as I believe it's off by default and otherwise TC is not smooth at all.
Sorry about that been so wrapped up with escribe. Didn't want mess with AF till mod got here. You're advice is right best to give simple instruction to get it working. If someone want more advance stuff can checkout the mod setting post.
If we start clutter (guilty) post about mods it takes discussion away from the vaporizer.
Considering the amount of 510 vaporizer on the market and that mods basically work the same with them.
Don't want scare people off with a bunch tech mumble jumble when there just looking to vape.
Ha KZ was also mumbling to himself about 510 anomalies in that thread. I think his general point with AF is how reliable & easy it is to set up. For me, just lock in an accurate coil Ω, set your TCR, watts & temperature, (no need to mess with TFR, curves or pre-heat) enable PI control if applicable, and you can get great results right away without any tweaking as long as your battery discharge rate is sufficient and your mod's hardware or 510 connector isn't compromised. This should be the same formula for setting up a stempod with AF or tuboevic.
As you dig deeper into the AF client for your computer, you'll see there's lots of options and modes to customize and personalize, but it mostly deals with aesthetics & user preferences. It's really easy to set up AF to perform optimally, even without using your computer, just on the mod itself.
I'm sure you'll get great results with your dna mod as well, but it just seems you'll have to spend alot more time tapping away at the escribe to get set up and get results that are about as good or marginally better than AF? I should reserve judgement until you get to try out your SP with different mods. It may be accurate to say I have mild anti-DNA bias? (or pro-AF)
Just me, but I don't think it's bad to be 'cluttering up' this thread with mod talk? Alot of stempodders are new to box mods and need to learn stuff, it seems? Might as well chat! All the posts make this thread more cracking, isn't that what Dan wants?
