Okay, so I tried out my new GonG adapter with the handsfree attachment this evening. It was pretty cool, and it worked effectively. I may reduce the length of hose for this application, and it is a little more of a pain to have to stir quite frequently with this setup, but may be nice to use with friends.

I seem to still be partial to using my mouthpiece and non handsfree usage of my SSV. Theres just something about the level of attention and intimacy that it entails to operate and enjoy it.

Its not really a lot different pulling it through a bong or bubbler. You still have to stir it after every pull. We've gotten to the point we pretty much only use our SSV through something.. we have a couple of SYN tubes we usually utilize, just depending on which one is clean. We're about 90% vape only but we do smoke from time to time so one tube is almost always dirty.

I have the GonG hands free setup 7th Floor makes. Its handy but WAY too easy to pull the wand out when its in the SSV. Thats happened many a time at the end of a vaking session.

right on that one. i've always loved the standard wand for this. its like driving a standard vs automatic. you have way more control. its nice and easy to pull the wand away at the end of the hit to clear the hose and pass it to your friend too. with proper working of the wand during the hit, it also provides much more even vaping than unmoving handsfree connection does.

and i've been loving me HA, the SSV is where its at for hash vaping :ko:

also, i've found that bubblers seem to work better for the ssv cause tubes sometimes take a long time, and half your lung capacity, just to milk, depending on the size. A nice, small bubbler on the other hand doesnt have a lot of air to displace. Also, watch out if you tip the tube/bub, sudden tilting of the water level on some of them can cause air to shoot up the hose and blow out your bowl. again, more of a problem the bigger your piece, and also depends on your diffuser type,. like, i know it happens a lot more with inlines.

Quick question -

Does this device work ok for vaporizing hash? I guess I should just try it, risk a screen or something, but I have read on the MFLB thread that it really gums up the screen in that device. They work so differently though, that I figured I would ask. I have basically quit using hash since converting to vape, but as a medical grower I have lots of it since that is how I process my trim for longterm storage.

If the SSV is not a decent hash vaping device, does one exist?

thanks

I have been vaping alot of bubble hash out of my SSV

When you first put a chunk of hash in the wand and hit it, the bubble melts and covers the screen.

It can block your air flow, so you take the pick and give it a stir. That usually gets the flow going and it will start hitting .

Hash lasts a long time in the vape.

The first hits are light and the hash bubbles up. Then after you stir and get past the melty point the bubble goes a bit dry and starts hitting hard. Nice thick big hits.

After a few big bowls of hash you will get some wand hash oil. Its really potent oil from the bubble hash that you can scrape out with the pick and mix with some buds or smear on a joint.

The best thing about hash in the vape is the flavor. You dont have a bad metal taste from a bowl screen.

Its flavor is great.

I put a chunk in my wand and its good for a couple days of vaping all day long lol

So the only down side to hitting hash in the SSV is that the screen will clog. But thats what the pick is for.

Just give it a good stir and dont even worry about smearing it around. I smear the pick off on the sides of the wand bowl and by the time your done vaping all the hash turns to a dust.

It goes from gooey and melty to a dark brown powder.

Between bowl you give the bowl a scrape with the pick and a few pulls off the SSV and your good to go.

Hey guys, I'm new to FC, but been a proud owner of an SSV for the last 2 years. I'm a regular visitor of the GrassCity forums, but I'm trying to get back into vaping again. It's been in the closet for a while, I guess I just sort of stopped caring about it when my clear tube got dirty, I lost my pick, and part of my glass knob broke off. I recently ordered a new glass knob and mouthpiece for my SSV so I thought I'd post some pics since I've never taken any before. I also got a connector for my small bong, but not sure I like how much drawing that requires. :/

When I ordered mine (in 2008?) the plastic base was the only option. I really love the powdered black unit. My heater cover has a lot less coloring than the ones I've seen in this thread, so I guess 7th floor decided to make the heater covers more colorful, a good call I think. Overall, even though I have stuck mostly with smoking, I do think the SSV is a very high quality vaporizer and I am glad that I have it. I'm excited to get back into vaping more as my youth wears off.

Im pretty sure that 7th Floor sells seperate bases for the SSV.

Tip: if your using the vapor bong, turn the dial down a bit.

Yes, you can get a replacement base from 7th Floor on their website (if its that important to you)

And your wand getting dirty? DUDE!! That is gummy gold up in there! WAAAAAAAAAY better than any resin you could reclaim from your combustables anyday!

Im also digging your mouthpiece of your wand. That thing is sweet!

And one last thing, I ended up picking some extra tubing up for bonging purposes. I use a much shorter hose when hitting the bong and my SSV as it hits much easier.

Good luck and welcome back from the dark side!

haha..thats a good one. I can see their logic though. they cant just call it the finest vape on earth, but if they make up a new classification, the finest vape in on earth..well...sounds legit to me.

but seriously this thing is great. the finest vape in on earth may be pushing it but it is definitely a tank. knocked it off a low table, about a foot and a half fall, picked it up and took a hit.

It seems that I have a lot of bad luck ordering an electric vapo recently here in Germany.
I ordered a DBV through a german reseller but it got lost on the delivery and all other DBV were sold out so they gave me my money back and gave me a 5% discount which I used to ordered a SSV.
I tried to vaporize some Damiana and Peppermint (I don't have my favourite herb right now) with it but I didn't get anything visible (vapor or smoke) even on full blast (which should be too hot)
Turns out the SSV arrived but with a Ground Glass Heater Cover and a standard wand. :/ . I wrote Customer Support but received no answer yet.
What confuses me is that the wand and the heater cover have the same finish.
I am thinking about just ordering a standard heater cover from 7th floor.

Is there any way to use the SSV effectively with a Ground Glass Heater Cover and a standard wand while I wait for a new heater cover?

I don't think you can use it without a proper wand to be honest, but perhaps you could fabricate something like a wand. I'd just be a little more patient if I were you.

If it helps, there's someone from the UK on e-bay that sells the standard heat cover for 18 euro's incl. shipping. Their e-bay name is goodgets_uk. Might get there a little faster then from the USA and it'll save you the shipping costs and outer EU customs fees (if it works the same in Germany as here in Holland anyway).

I believe they also sell the GG wand for the SSV if you want to give it a try.

On a side note, my blemished SSV from 7thfloor just cleared customs according to the tracking. Should arrive at my door tomorrow. I'm SO stocked.

Thx On the Agony,

Good to know that there is a SSV accessoires seller in europe who has GG.

Couldn't I try to build sth like a SSV wand with Alu foil so that it fits in the GG Heater Cover while I wait for my Standard Heater Cover? I heard that Alu Foil isn't really affected by heat (otherwise it wouldn't be used for Shishas).

So sorry to hear, Vapordreamer. Unfortunately in my experience 7th Floor has absolutely terrible customer service. They sent my SSV without a broken heater cover and it was like pulling teeth to get a replacement. It took them 3 shipments to get it right. Add poor communication and general lack of concern for their reputation (they guy even suggested I buy something else if I was so unhappy about it not working) and its not a very good company to deal with. However, the SSV -- once it works -- is a very solid unit and I do enjoy having it around. Its just so frustrating to deal with them after the wonderful experience you get from Magic Flight.

I do not know of a way to match the GG to standard pieces. Do you have glass shops there? In Oregon or California it would not be too hard to track down pieces that would fit, but no idea about the glass scene in Germany.

Personally I would not use aluminum foil as I am still skeptical about its safety.

I dont think you would have much success with foil. That sucks that you have mismatching HC/Wand combos. Take a look at that vendor on your side of the pond that has the CORRECT setup for you :) Heck - get one of each if you can afford it. This way you can also further determine which you prefer. I personally love my standard hookup, but Ive never used the GG or spherical GG either.

im currently on a severe tolerance break but wish to update my ssv while im cleansing myself to actually get high again. kind of as my reward. (been a rough few weeks of blowing through way too much weed with little to no affect, but that is not the point.) im on day 3 now of no weed and all is going well.

i have the GG surfer which is great in its own right but i stir after each hit and pretty much never take my hand off the wand while im hitting it. it has a good connection and shouldnt slip but my tubing is really kinked and if i turn slightly without holding it the tubing could twist it and make it fall out.

so i figured id buy a standard HC and wand and give that a try since i dont really benefit from the GG. also i like how small the hole is that the hot air comes out of with the standard, seems i would have more control and be able to vape more effectively.

does anyone know if 7th floor sells heat covers, wands, and knobs in some kind of bulk pack thats all matched colors?

my knob is quite dull looking and if i could have my knob, heat cover, and wand all the same colors/style that would be cool.

also does anyone have any experience painting the shell? i have the normal silver shell with the black metal base. im going to probably switch out the base to something nicer and i know the shell isnt switchable. i have a friend of mine in art school and he drew up a really awesome rasta colored psychedelic pattern. really have to be seen to be believed. i was thinking he could maybe paint it on my surfer or use his set of sharpies and draw it on.

someone let me know please.

not only will it be like im using weed for the first time after my tolerance break but its gonna be like a brand new vape. its going to be heaven.

They most certainly do but you'll have to contact them. They have a phone number and email address on the website for you to do just that. They seem fairly flexible and I'm sure they'll accommodate your needs.

I have a question that I thought you guys here at FC could probably help me with.

Last night I was vaping with some friends but accidentally turned the ssv on without making sure the ceramic heating element wasn't touching the glass heater cover... well now there are a few hairline cracks in the cover. It's my fault for ripping the bong before setting up the ssv.

So, I thought, no big deal. It's still working just fine and I wanted to replace it anyway, nows just an excuse to get a new wand and a case, too.

Well when adding the heater cover to your cart you need to specify if your heater stand is "perforated or the solid stainless steel".

I bought my ssv used, so I'm not aware of its exact age, but it does have the metal base so should be relatively new. My question is, though, what is the difference in appearance between the two stands? How can what I need to specify?

hmm i also would like to know how to find that out i have the GG with the black metal stand so i assume its the newer model. but i would like some reassurance.

weird that your cover cracked though. i cant even push my cover down enough to have it touch the element. but that may be because i have the ground glass and not the standard. (if thats what you have) curious as to why you would take the cover off between sessions though?

Yes, it is the standard heater cover. I didn't actually take it off, usually I only do that to get at blown up bud. I was traveling with the ssv that night and when I pack it, I usually rotate the heater cover 90 degrees or so, so that it is less vulnerable to exposure due to the access recess. Between twisting it initially and twisting it back, I had pushed it down a bit too much.

I'm happy that its still working just fine right now, the crack hasn't affected anything. I do want to order a new wand though, and this is a great excuse. I just need to know what heater cover base I have.

I've noticed the SSV ranges from $50-$80 more expensive than the Da Buddha. Any idea why this is the case? From looking around on online, the SSV doesn't appear to come with any extra accessories.

It comes with a worked temperature knob and a worked heater cover. Also the fact they are assembled in the states vs. China for the buddha.

its a different design, even though the DBV and the SSV are similar in many ways.
the biggest difference is that the SSV has a better wand angle and is all assembled in the US, the DBV does use some Chinese labor or something.

It appears I have the perforated heater cover base. To check, I removed what appeared to be the metal spacers around the base. Once this was done, it was clear that the base was perforated, as there were a number of holes easily seen. I assume the solid stainless steel heater cover base is the same, sans the perforations (and a slight diameter difference).

My blemished black SSV just came in :D

It's so tiny!
I expected to put this huge tube on my desk, but it's only about the same size as my coffee mug, lol

The blemish in this case is single 2" scratch on the front, just above the power LED.
Clearly visible, but not to bad and it looks pretty easy to touch up.
Otherwise I am very happy with how it looks. You can't pick the colour of the base plate with the blemished ones, so I was prepared for the worst. However, it came with a nice silver base that goes pretty good with the black. I'll probably still spray it black in a while, but no rush there now. The glass it came with also goes well together. The wand and heat cover both have a little yellow in them, and the knob is also yellow with a little red flame mixed in in the centre. Even the free flask that came with it has the colour I was hoping for, I certainly didn't expect that.

But most importantly, it works great!
After reading this thread two or three times while waiting for my SSV to arrive I pretty much knew what to do. After the advised burn off period I put it at a little over noon, grounded up 0.2gram of white widow, sucked it in the wand and away we went. The first draw was instant success, I didn't see or taste the vapour at first but suddenly my throat started to itch so I stopped inhaling and started coughing up clouds, haha. Hadn't done that in awhile when smoking so it surprised me a bit. I turned it down jut a little and took another draw, man that tastes good!

I keep going back and forth between 12 and 12.30 and it just keeps on going, did 6 hits now and my weed is still green. I think I'm gonna turn it up a little for the next hit and see what happens.

Oh, I also got the hands free adapter with it. I jammed it in a gap in my desk and now I use it to hang my wand in when not using it, works pretty good.

Ok, so far my first impression. I'm so glad I spend the extra cash and bought this as my first vape instead of a BC or the Kia I was eye balling first before I found this place. Thanks for putting together this great thread everyone!

One question; do you guys think it's ok to leave it on at the sweet spot all day -let's say for 12 hours straight every day- or is it better to turn it off in between bowls?
