Sitting here, waiting on ups. I've run out of patience. Got a quick question. Even though I ordered the standard wand and the SGG I would still like to know what some of you (exp. in vaporizing) prefer when it comes to the style of heater cover and wand. GG, SGG or standard? My unit will come with the standard ready to use and the spherical as a back-up. Is it better to go ahead and put the wider heat path (SGG) heater cover on or just leave the standard on? Or does i t even make a diff.? Damn Im excited. Time to go wake and bake. Hopefully it gets here soon so that I can try it out and give my first impressions right here on FC. Thanks to everyone for all of your help

I have the standard setup, the spherical GoG and the GoG handsfree setups. I use the handsfree one mainly because I use the SSV so much with a bong however I think all of their connections pretty much suck. The spherical wand really isnt much of an upgrade over the standard wand and the hands free is hands free however the slightest tug on the wand when you dont have your hand on it and you'll be cleaning up weed from all over the floor.

I suppose I could have gotten the attachment they sell to keep the standard wand in a handsfree type setup but that scratches the inside of the SSV and I didnt want that either.

Had I known I was going to rely so much on the handsfree, I would have bought a DBV. It uses the same style GoG joint but its at a 90 degree angle, not slightly pointing down begging to fall out.

Thats really my only complaint with the SSV and its a minor one. Its still my daily driver and its the vape I recommend to everyone over all the other vapes I own. I havent taken my Volcano out of the case in probably 4 months.

Interesting opinion since between the DBV and multiple choices for the SSV, 7th Floor has more options than anyone in the industry in this area. What company would you rate higher in this regard?

For a whip style.. I really dont know. Hell, since most of the whips are interchangeable, probably none of them.

Im sure its a limitation of glass forming as to why there isnt a better solution. A 3 piece whip would be a better choice. Essentially a small bowl in between the two connections with screens on both sides so you dont have to have the stupid wand pointing down. The DBV doesnt point down, it points straight out. When gravity is working against you, small tugs can be disastrous.

It still isn't a very good solution imo, but the scratching only happened with the first ones, they have fitted the hands free adapter with plastic strips to prevent the scratching later on.

Do you also have the handsfree adapter for your regular wands? Ive found that with the HFA attached, a small jerk will mean you have a lapful of SSV as opposed to a lapful of weed. (It has a pretty nice hold)
EDIT-I see that you didnt have it after all... :/

I am of the OPPOSITE side of the spectrum when it comes to the fittings personally. I have the original HC, and honestly I prefer to NOT have a handsfree setup (for the reason you mentioned with the GG connex) but even with the HFA, I still seem to enjoy the level of control that I get with my standard setup. Maybe the SGG might be right up my alley as well as it too is not handsfree. I think I used my HFA once (when I first got it) and it went back into storage.

Oh, and my SSV is fine. The bag did a pretty solid job at keeping it all safe. All is well :)

PoopMachine - Can you please tell me as well as everyone else, your opinion on the spherical GG versus the GG? Are the air streams similiar? I know the difference between the standard and the GG, but still have not heard anyone speak of the differences between the spherical and the gg.

Well, today is a moment of truth for my SSV and its protective case. I usually keep my SSV high up on a shelf in a plastic container and a bunch of other shit. This AM I got to awake to a room with about 3 smashed computers, a busted box and a bunch of other assorted shit that was IN the box. (Including my SSV) from the over the head shelf that decided to come out of the wall.

I havent opened up my SSV pouch yet to see if I sustained any glass damage, but I am a wee bit nervous.
Id say im about 97% sure that everything is okay - its just that ~3% that has me worried.
:uhoh:

Oh damn that sounds horrible! But in all reality, if anything was to have a good chance to survive and still being functional it would be the SSV I'm sure. As long as the glass is intact I'm sure you'll be just a-ok. I've dropped my DBV way too many times, and the glass has even survived more than I would have expected. Plus you had it in a case, good thing!

I havent measured them to be sure of this but I'm relatively certain that the spherical GG and the standard cover/wand have very similar air paths. I think the hands free GoG puts the weed a little farther away from the heat.

I also have the fatty wand for the standard cover and need to order one for the hands free GoG.. I do like the fatty wands.

advice for first time owner (my unit should be here next week :)? what would be a necessary accessory for the SSV that you couldnt live with out? and some tips or tricks for a person new to the SSV but not to vaping?

The GonG water pipe adapter. Hands down (IMO) Sure you can run the tube directly into your downstem, but this adds to the experience of using the SSV with the bong. I also have the hands free adapter, but used it once (when I got it) If I wanted hands free with my SSV, I would have gone with the GG setup (or a DBV)

To be honest you don't really need anything that doesn't come with it but a bit of weed, just some extra screens perhaps.

Both screens and tubing are a good deal from the 7th Floor site, and will be needed. It's also a good idea to get an extra wand, in case of an accident.

They've replaced mine 3 times for cracking so no, Id say it's not. Even only using it at very low heating and letting it cool down on the SSV, Ive never had one last longer than about 2 weeks.

About the bong adapter, I guess Im in the minority. On a 14mm GoG joint, the hose slides right in. I bought 18 and 14mm adapters for my bongs but the hose is a perfect fit to just slide into the downstem on 14mm joints. Why? Well, the waterpipe adapter has a tendency to fall out when youre passing a bong with it in there. It just seems to work better not to use it. Stick the hose in the downstem, hit it, pull it out to clear, repeat.

It's not as fancy as having the adapter but IMO it works better.

Add a heater cover to that, nothing is worse than breaking your heater cover and not having a replacement. Having extra glass is a very good idea with a DBV or SVV, especially because they are fairly inexpensive.

Howdy All! New to the forum, and have purchased a SSV and a MFLB in the same week! 10 year smoker converted in 2 days, largely due to lurking on this forum. Thanks for the knowledge and advice.

Has anyone had any one had success with painting their SSV? Base & Unit? If so, any advice?

whats the best place for me to look for 7th floor products besides their own website? i know we used to have a user that was very tight with 7th floor and had his own website with discount codes for us. i havent been around here in while and just got rid of my extreme and need to get vaping asap.

Welcome and let me say excellent choices on your purchases! I have the same two vapes and have been incredibly happy ever since I got them.

Re. painting the SSV: If you go a number of pages back you'll see that someone had great success drawing on their SSV with special coloured pens I think, looked really cool. Other than that 7th floor offer to put any design/photo onto newly bought units, although I guess that doesn't help you now... To update mine I've just put in an order for a custom-glass temperature knob and whip-mouthpiece, you'll see on the 7th floor site they have some really tasty designs on offer!

Thanks Wilf for the response! I had checked out that color pen paint job a few pages back and was thoroughly impressed. I wish I were as adept as that User's cousin, wow.

I'm thinking of applying a sheeny spray paint and couple layers of clear coat. If I muster up the courage, I'll share my results

Just make sure you have one of the plain jane (silver) SSV's that have no coating or at least no powdercoated finish. (i.e. the colored ones)

Looking forward to what you accomplish in decorating your SSV!

Any interesting ideas for a SSV cover? I like to leave my SSV out on my computer table but don't really want to advertise I vape herb. It needs to be flame proof and would be nice if it looked good. Only thing I can think of now is a steel can.

Just got her a few days ago. Enjoy the eye candy :o

This thing has even surpassed my high expectations for it. The build quality is ridiculously good. I dont even think i need to say anything about the hits because all of you already know how deadly they are. I love the ssv.
