Depends how far you push the load. Your mileage may vary, different people use different temps and techniques.

Yeah I seem to heat mine up too much. I keep getting a tiny bit of combustion out of each bowl and I can't find a good even temp without the temp seeming like it's too low. So for awhile I was vaping with it up high and combusting a tiny bit. Now I'm taking slower draws with less heat and getting less combustion but the draws take forever. Maybe I'm at too high of a temp to get any useful effects from just eating the ABV itself.

Combustion or blackened bud?

I would say it's just blackened. I think combustion is pretty obvious right? The bowl has lit up like 5-6 times the past couple weeks. I think those were the times I combusted (is that a word?) where as my vaped weed just looks blackened/dark brown. Sorry I'm new to this haha

I think part of my problem is I'm expecting to feel the vapor when often times I never do. Then I wind up drawing until I feel something in my throat. I'm surprised at how much difficulty I've been having and it's kind of been turning me off to the whole thing.

Hard to tell with white balancing and such but that ABV looks like it still has some good stuff left :) If the bowl lights up it is way too hot (in my experience), with the standard heat shield and the ceramic heater pulled all the way up I tend to keep the knob at around the 1:00 position (assuming max heat is at about 5:00/5:30). I definitely do feel vapor as far as mouth-feel goes, but it isn't super thick or rich, just flavorful. Maybe try varying your intake/draw speeds, try just pulling a little into your mouth and expelling it like a cigar to see what the vapor looks like (as opposed to waiting for it to go into your lungs, get absorbed, and exhaled).

I've made coconut oil rice krispies treats with SSV ABV and they have worked wonderfully. Not sure why your 1 gram ingestion didn't work :(

Touch it. Is it ash or is it powder.
Ash = Combusted (Oily, dirty, smeary). Spent
Powder = desiccated, dry, clean feeling) All water removed

LOL Sweet... I've been pretty sick with no health insurance so I've had nothing to do for weeks besides sit at my computer and work with my SSV.... I thought I was doing it wrong the whole time. Here and there I toast it a bit more than I like. Glad it's not actual combustion though.

Are you not getting satisfactory vapor quantities?

I only have your old colored whips.
...

Who sells the best silicone tubing?
Well they're old but they're new! One was used once and one was brand new, I took the mouthpiece off the slightly used one at one point and couldn't tell the difference between the two to put it back on.

I really like 7th floor's tubing the best. The clear is slightly better tubing imo, but also more of a dust magnet as the colored stuff has more of a "slick" surface. I have both and use them interchangeably.

I got a silicone tube to replace the 7th floor tubing, that which came shipped with my SSV is very willful and a pain in my ass to manage as it has a natural curve. Broke my stock wand when I underestimated its springiness :(

This is what I got, will report back when I use it

If I ever get a 2nd SSV it will be rainbow zen.

@zor is that the same expensive fancy tubing we were discussing on the last page? I only need like 3 feet I don't mind paying a decent amount for a really nice tube. That said now that I have the cool red tube over my nano-wand I'm not sure I have any need for other tube but maybe it would be nice to have a different kind of whip just for the heck of it.

Here's my rainbow zen, current configuration.

YOqiUjs.jpg

Standard gg wand and hc, a purple aroma dish and one of 7th floor's tripod bubblers.
It's a purple hose even though it looks blueish on my laptop's display.

I wish I knew. I feel like after the first couple of hits the potency disappears. I'm trying to figure out what to d with my ABV, I don't have much. Maybe like 4-5 grams of it.
I think with the SSV standard wand you need to put in a fair amount of weed to get satisfactory performance.
I fill it up by inhaling with the mouthpiece and sucking up ground weed and fill it up to a little over 3/4 full and Hits like a truck.

I think if you want to get better performance out of a significantly smaller quantity of weed just get a nano stem and make a nano-wand or get the vapor bros mini wand. I can only speak for the nano-wand, but with this Setup I can get the SSV to give monster hits off of the tiniest pinch!

wLArEs9.png

This is my nano-wand setup as I have been using it since I got it set up how I like. The basket screen faces outwards so it is like a bucket instead of a shelf. I think performance is better this way.

My main problem with the nano stem as it was on the nano is too many particulates got in my mouth, since I had been enjoying it on the SSV I decided to put the nano and SSV side by side and see how the nano-wand fared.

I tried the nano at temps 6 to 8 in increments of 0.5 and found moderate increase in vapor each time. However what surprised me is even with proper use of the nano-wand in the nano I got better performance with the SSV each time!

Even at about noon on the SSV I was getting better flavor and vapor production than the nano-wand on the nano itself. On higher nano temps I got comparable vapor production on initial hits but flavor died very fast on the nano and hits were not as powerful. On the SSV at all temperatures I was shocked at how much better it would perform.

On the nano I would hit a bowl until it was done but the SSV would push a few more fat hits out of it. Also, the nano spoiled the flavor after the first hit; on the SSV it was great flavor and no question better vapor production for a solid 5-6 hits. However just like with the stock SSV wand stirring is essential!

I have not used the nano-wand with water yet but it is really excellent for dry hitting. Even at high temps the hits are very comfortable. I use the stock SSV wand more often when I want to get more medicated faster but if I want to take more time enjoying my weed I pick up my nano-wand. The basket screen setup like this is amazing. I have no vapor bros mini wand but I know I am more than happy with my contraption here.

I have no problem using it on my standard heater cover, it is able to roll around fine on the heater cover. I actually probably use this more than the SSV stock stem now just because you for the amount of weed you load, the vapor flavor and production is amazing. I really was surprised at how much more efficient the SSV was.

It's so weird this vape is so versatile and great yet for this thread having existed for close to 8? Years now it has fewer replies than Evo thread... However I wouldn't ever give up my SSV, no how no way!

Also are you supposed to leave the aroma top on while you vape? I was confused what the purpose of the aroma tops was.

I usually don't use much more herb than a large coffee bean and get amazing clouds every single time. I'm using a basket screen set-up which allows for great extraction from large or small loads, even very small loads.
I was thinking about one of your posts where you mentioned this when I was watching tv, I wondered if I had anything that would work thought of my lonely nano stem and went to find it right away! Now I use it more often than the stock wand.

I've tried different size bowls and I still get the same results. Whether it's finely broken up or just broken up with my fingers nicely, I still get decent clouds and the results aren't much different. Looking at my weed after it's ground up, it loses a lot of trichomes and I feel like it's noticeable when I hit the herb compared to when I break it up with my fingers. Idk, I'm still gonna use the grinder. I think I the hits I was taking off it when I first got it were so good I built up a huge tolerance without knowing it and wound up vaping double what I normally smoke. I'm looking at what was once a 1/2 ounce a week ago, is now 3 grams. I just got my card so I have no idea if this is a potency issue or not with the weed itself but I would assume so. If that's the case, I'll be asking for a nice discount next time I see him.

Also, the nano spoiled the flavor after the first hit;

So glad to read this, you are not alone with this assessment. If you scorch/roast the top of your nano load, it ruins the whole bowl,. It would happen way too often for me, and that is with my nano on 6.

IMO the benefit of the SSV over the nano is better air flow through the HC and the extra power of the heater along with the venturi effect caused by the choked flow of the SSV small output. This allows for deeper hot air penetration into your material where the nano just hits the top layer, and this is why less is better with the nano.

I agree re the ssv vs logs (which have NO airflow), but I think the venturi effect is more from the intake hole in the hc, because my standard gg setup does not have a choked output and still vaporizes well.

I've eliminated stirring with this rig, just by using small loads and moving the screen closer to the heat source. I can do this with the standard gg wand, because it offers two screen positions. I will add a hemp filter in the 2nd position next time I clean the screen, forgot to do that when I set it up.

The enano stem it pretty darn small but you get the idea. Several users have posted about basket screens fairly recently in this thread. All kinds of easy ways to do it. :)

I tried messing with a nano gong on a whip since it was easier to get the tube on but did not like it at all!

I think the length of the nano stem is what makes the nano-whip so much fun to use and why it is capable of such pleasant hits!

Yeah I see what your saying and would explain why the intake hole is so pivotal in every single 7th floor HC including the LSV's. I've been reading the wiki article about venturi over and over, I believe the choke is necessary as it -

"will increase the density of the fluid through the constriction (though the velocity will remain constant). This is the principle of operation of a de Laval nozzle"

Without the choke, the ceramic heater will not create dense enough heated air to effectively vaporize a load. Like sucking through an oversized straw, :D.

I'm terible at breaking up recipes and I can't find anything that works with 7 grams of abv.... any suggestions? I've never made any sort of cannabis edible before so something easy for a first timer. I want to get the most potency out of it if I can. If there is anything left in it.
