I've just purchased a Silver Surfer, overall I'm really impressed, having only used a Volcano and a Flowermate previously.
I have a couple of quick queries I'm hoping some other owners could clarify for me:
1 - My temperature control knob spins all the way around, without too much force, which I'm pretty sure it isn't meant to do. If I go anti-clockwise past the click and the 'off' position, I can keep on going and the red LED will turn back on - I'm pretty sure this isn't meant to happen, but the unit operates fine, despite this. However - I am a bit picky and this might annoy me over time, how readily available are spares and does anybody know how easy it would be to replace the dial?
2 - The ceramic heating element moves up and down 10mm or so with ease, is this normal?

Idk about your knob but mine is a little loose as well. Hasn't hurt anything thus far.
Concerning the ceramic rod it should be able to move up and down with little force

Well folks, I just put in an order for a blemished SSV with the oil kit adaptor as well. I love my Volcano and want to supplement it with a good whip vape, flavor being one important factor as well as a (theoretical) better way to titrate my dosage (I dunno, bags feel a bit wasteful when I don't want to medicate too strongly).

If you dont want to medicate too much I would recommend getting the small vapor bros wand in this thread. Its similar in size to the enano bowl. With a large bowl you could over do it much easier because its fun man lol. Smaller bowls help conserve. if you want flavor the SSV is the way to go as it uses almost all glass airpath.
the SSV though water with my setup has been the smoothest vape experience I've ever had.
it almost doesn't even feel like you are drawing on anything besides a hint very clean flavor
...........and smooth and pure vapor clouds are the result.

I think @Tweak has both an enano and ssv? I have both as well but will admit I never mastered the SSV, but based on my experience enano is more smooth and flavorful. Just my experience. I like the ssv for the beast that it is, just my low tolerance and love for water tools that drew me to the enano. The enano packs a punch but gives better control of dosage out of the box like I said above there is a way to get the same size bowl for SSV.

I can't imagine anything performing much better than the SSV with water...the draw back though is that it is more parts VS enano or LSV.
my SSV has a longer vapor path with water vs the LSV which lets the vapor cool a bit more... which I prefer. lol

Funny you should say that. This is how I feel about the e-nano, I just can't get the thick vapor I want without browning the top of my load every time. I hear users in the e-nano thread speak of how easy the nano is, but I'm still struggling after a year of constant use and I've never struggled with any of the other vaporizers I've used.
I'm just not getting the flavor that everybody speaks highly about with the nano, wet or dry. If the temperature is lowered I get whispy vapor, temperature too high it browns the load. Maybe I have a defective nano,
. I've moved the screen up and down, tried everything believe me. Small loads, big loads, doesn't seam to matter.But yeah, I get more flavor, bigger clouds, better air flow and more control with my SSV.
The SSV can fit more in it's wand and spreads the surface area in direct contact of the heat source out more because the wand is wider. There is simply more flavanoids to smack you in the taste buds and I never get any roasting because the heating element is twice as powerful and twice the distance away than the nano's element is.

It had too much resistance for my setup. I did not shorten the whip though so perhaps with a shorter whip or with a smaller lower resistance water pipe I would have better results.

Thats very weird. If you were able to master the SSV yet have trouble with the nano then my guess would be defective nano. In my experience the learning curve of the nano is much less than the SSV (standard HC)

One thing that improves the draw for use with water pipe is the tweak basket screen mod. I use standard wand with mod, and a longer (maybe 2.25 ft hose) and the draw resist is balanced by being closer to the heating element.

Nobody has bought/received one yet AFAIK. So it must be really new or not that popular.

You also have that option of VB Fancy whips.
I've always wanted a worked SSV wand, really digging @steama 's VB whip (middle)

Sorry for the off-topic, but this describes my underdog experience; it must be a log thing.
I am having decent luck with my glass hybrid hi sabre with joda stems, but the loads are still too small to be satisfying -- same as when I use the vb mini wand with the ssv (back on topic
).I suppose my 37 years of recreational combusting makes me a heavy hitter, so efficient vapes don't satisfy me medically nowadays. I do like them for daytime use sometimes when I'm feeling okay.

Yeah same here. And if I try and put too much into the mini wand, it restricts air-flow too much which is unsatisfying for me.

They did come out with a Shorty wand, but I don't think anyone here has reported results.
Have you seen my EQ screen mod? It cuts your standard wand down by more than half.

You can make your own like steama did.
Dowel rod and a socket wrench (or bigger drill bit and a chunk of wood), got your self a screen making factory.
Just need to source some
Stainless Steel Wire Mesh and choose a mesh size. One "6 X "6 mesh could yield ~30 screens.
I cut them into rectangles, push them into the socket and cut away the excess.

i had a cloud elb that came apart at the top seam so i removed the metal part and found the elb screen itself fit perfectly in my standard wand. perfect diameter and it nests the load right over the standard wands restricted area if you remove the standard wand screen.
the elb compacts and centers the load right over the restricted wand opening. not that different from the out of the box ssv setup but it eliminates that outer edge bowl area and provides thicker hits with less material. ive been using this setup for a few weeks now and its been my favorite so far.

I always wanted to try it but them elbs are expensize. Gave them all away when I sold the VXC.
Do you have a photo, I'd love to see how it looks.
