Just wanted to drop in and report we LOVE our new Surfer! The thing just produces the biggest clouds we've seen since we stopped combusting (3 years now). It is capable of kicking our butts very quickly! :brow: We also really dig the standard connection (thanks again, Vitolo - your video was great at showing the different connections) and liken it to driving a stick shift - total control.

I agree with prior posters. If anybody is on the fence about this thing, go ahead and make the purchase - really doubt you'll be disappointed.

I purchased my SSV a few months ago--I love it! I've got one in that awesome Rainbow Zen color with standard glass. It's thanks to a lot of information in this thread that I went with the SSV. My first vape prior was an MFLB (and while the MFLB is good for different situations), and I don't really use it anymore because my SSV is usually running 24/7.

I do want to look into getting some goodies from 7th floor though. I'm conflicted on whether I want to get a vapor tamer or one of their bubbler/water filters. I considered an ice chamber but I thought it may be too ambitious or something (I'm a new MMJ patient with only about 6 months of medicating under my belt...ever!). What do you guys think?

The vapor tamer is really versatile, and can work MANY ways, and with other tools also!
I am a fan of the "Fatty Vapor Tamer"

I didn't realize you could actually extract resin from the tubing. Did you just scrape it off with something and blow it out the other end?

TokinGLX actually has a pretty nice vid about how to do this, I've used his method with my SSV to great success :) highly recommended

Awesome. Thanks Vitolo. I checked out your site and there's some good stuff there!

One more question regarding choosing between a bubbler and a tamer--which one of the two should produce milder vapor? I have begun coughing a lot and having a hard time taking hits. I'm suspecting it has to do with the summer temps (I live in the desert) and the resulting dryness. I'm hoping one of these will help me.

Water always produces milder vapor... but you use more lung power, and this can still allow a cough.
Water is milder, but also some (I am one) may argue that some oils are left behind (I agree).
Cold water for sure leaves globs of THC goo in a bong (looks like small wads of snot).
Frozen tamer is cool therefore mild, and allows less pull than water does, in most cases.
I live in hot desert as well.
I do use water... VERY rarely.
I find the VT more handy... versatile.....
and most adaptable... easier to clean also.
(Now it is the turn of someone that may like water better than the frozen air!)

I've had mine for a few months now and I can't believe I went this long without one. The taste is way better and smoother on my lungs. I also love how I can leave it on and loaded for 12+ hours a day and not worry about it burning out. 7'th floor told me they had one at their store in the restroom being used as a scented oil diffuser that was on 24/7 for 6 years before it burned out. Bravo 7'th floor

I've been using my SSV on a regular basis since I got it but it doesn't seem to be producing any thick, rich vapor clouds on a consistent basis. I find that the first draw or two is primarily tasty and if I want more vapor, I have to to turn up the temperature which makes it harsher. My lungs feel like they're getting a work out every time I run the SSV because it doesn't feel like I'm getting any vapor until the last 3-5 seconds of the pull. My wife suggested that I try packing less into it which did help with the airflow and keeping the product brown a little longer...usually after the first two draws the product starts to turn black with mediocre quality vapor output.

I clean all the glass and tubing after every 3-4 sessions with the SSV. I change out the screens even more often because they get dirty pretty fast. Maybe I need to keep experimenting with things to find the right method to the madness. It seemed to work great when I first got it but now it's like I'm either getting low temp, tasty vapor or high temp harsh vapor that is far from being a big dense cloud. I'm using a lot less product than the Volcano but I feel like I've extinguished all my product after about 6-7 draws. If I had to rate the SSV from 1-10, I'd give it a 7 right now.

I clean my glass and tube every day.
(my technique is in youtube video in this thread)
I have not changed my screen in two years, and it looks new after each cleaning.
You will find the way to adjust your draw for the first few seconds to a bit slower, then speed it up afterwards.. to get richer hits.
There are - tasty light hits.... or harsher thick hits.
You will find a spot in between.
I have been watching... and you are just not "there " yet as for your perfect level.......
Here is the deal....
all of a sudden one day it falls in place... and you will be "one" with your SSV.
Some friends that describe what you do, have removed one foot from there hose (take it from the wand end since it is more stained.) They say a two foot hose makes it seem like they have some better control

It took me a little while too but once I got the draw speed and the temp setting to gel, it's been nothing short of bliss. I've found that 11 o'clock works best for me.

BoldtVapor,
Has anyone ordered any custom glass from 7th floor? Sent them an inquiry email a couple days ago and I haven't heard from em yet :(

brown_hobbit,
Unfortunately 7th Floor hasn't e-mailed me back yet about the possible custom glass, so I actually went and found some other glass to work with my SSV. I would have waited, but I was in a bit of a rush to get some more "soothing" action with my SSV.

Honestly, I'm actually really excited about it! I experimented with sticking the whip in the downstem of a bong and I was really pleased with the result. The vapor was SO TASTY and cool and wonderful.

I ended up getting a 14" Zob beaker from Brothers with Glass. :)

I think this is going to be awesome. I also bought those water bottle ice cube trays (the kind that makes little cylinders of ice you can slide into a 16oz water bottle) because that would be pretty handy in the ice catcher.

What do you guys think? It's my first major glass piece, ever. Did I pick well enough? Should I pick up anything else in the meantime? I know I was originally thinking of the vapor tamer, but that will have to hold off until I have roommates that don't mind weed paraphernalia in the freezer.

Hey there everyone, just recently pulled the trigger and invested in a SSV after doing a bit of research, looking like i made the right move

Anyhow, non cigarette smoker here, been combusting steadily and heavily the last 3 years, off and on prior to that, was blazing from a few spoons but mostly a couple different water pipes. Been doing about a quarter per week during that time. (good access to dank medical here in SE MI through my CG :brow:) Needless to say was coughing a shit load the last several months even just using my bubbler with no more spoons or big bong rips so I decided to purchase the SSV. Been using the SSV pretty much exclusively the last 4 days, but find myself hacking out more speckled lung gum than before kinda... I'm guessing its just finally getting a chance to start clearing out since I'm not constantly combusting more right back on top of it?? but I figured this would be a good place to see if anyone else had a similar experience.

Oh, and I'm running my surfer at between 1 and 2-2:30... stepping up to more like 3 3:30 for some bubble hash pieces... definitely haven't been combusting. Filtering it through a beaker bottom Phire with a diffused downstem and about half loaded with ice above the pinches. I can DEFINITELY take more big pulls from this method without feeling the need to cough than I would be able to accomplish with a bubbler or dry pipe.

Well I guess let me know what you guys think, so far liking the SSV for the slick looks, design, and the dense pulls you can easily achieve as opposed to hand held vapes I've used in the past.

I think you may achieve 1- smoother hit, and 2- less Cannabinoids being stuck in the water
(evidenced by the globs on the bong wall when you use ice)
I personally do not use water much, but if I do it is no longer cold.

Welcome to the Surfer family, a2! It took a little while for our lungs to "catch up" once we stopped combusting (2009). However, vaping ultimately made a huge difference for us. Not sure if it's that way for everybody...your experience may differ. However, have read many success stories right here at FC.

I echo Vitolo's thoughts on water filtration. We like ours cold, but wouldn't doubt Uncle Vito's knowledge on the subject. We've also found the vapor tamer smooths things out as well.

Have you tried running your Surfer at a slightly lower temp, to see if that helps at all? We cough more when we have it cranked up. With your dank, you may be able to run a bit cooler and still get your desired effect.

So you think I'm just experiencing some kinda dryness issue?

It may not just be the dryness. If you don't use filtration you may inhale small plant particles, which may cause the air passages to react. If you've been coughing in the last few months your air passages may be more sensitive to vapor. I think the body may also get used to it after a while.

At least that's my theory why I had problems with vapor in the beginning. Since I bought a bubbler I basically have no problems anymore, even without hot water. Unless I take a huge load of vapor into my lungs, then I may cough for a short while. But that's nothing compared with the heavy prolonged reactions when I started vaping a month ago (without filter), after smoking cigarettes for more than 20 years.

Yeah man thanks, my cousin was living out in Denver for about the last 4 years and had experience with some surfers and was saying it was the way to go, as well as my research.

To be honest I'm really not looking to abandon combusting altogether, but I've been going too hard on it for too long now ALL combustion... I'd like to get a 50 50 kinda thing goin.

I'll just pack another one up I'm not really stressing the slight loss through the cold water... I've got a good situation and don't pay for meds.

Yeah I've run it down at like 12 - 1ish but the thinner vapor just isn't as desirable to me. I'm betting its just a slight adjustment period... I was combusting quite a bit.

Yeah I do notice that the aftermath of the coughing from taking a real big pull on the bong hooked to the SSV isn't nearly as bad as the aftermath from a coughing fit smoking out of my bubbler or a traditional dry spoon.

Although I've probably never smoked more than about 30 packs of squares in my life unlike yourself, quit those bout 5 years ago.

a2medsurfer,
I'm definitely with Makai about the particulate matter irritating your throat. That's a very strong possibility, especially if you grind your plant material very very fine (I do!). I see a lot of little particles in the water, so I can definitely say those NOT being in my throat helped tremendously!

I think I made a post on the last page about dryness/irritation and I can say I completely resolved it by just making a vapor bong with my ssv and a normal 14" bong. :)

Are you still using just the tube down the stem? 7th floor sells both a 14mm and 18mm elbow that fits into your downstem, only 10.99, allowing you to remove it to clear your bong like a slide. They are the widest, least air restricting elbows I've run across yet.
