Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

That makes sense and then you're ensuring you get most of the cannabinoids since they're spread out across the grades. I mean there could be a quality difference but it's probably not huge. I'm sure you'll get a chance to see for yourself in time, for SCIENCE! :science:

I just worked out the math on using kief instead of bud for QWISO and the time and cost savings are pretty huge. I'm going to look into it further but I may get the Pollen Master soon and then I'll have it handy whenever I figure out a rosin tek that works for me.

Yeah that's what I am starting to think.

I am going to order 1 230u screen then order more finer screens later if necessary.

Now that I'm not spending $120 on screens, what else should I buy lol?

I have my rosin tea bags (220u and 90u), my 25u blotting screens, and now a 230u sifting screens. I am also looking into collection brushes, cards, and a glass table.

For small 1 oz runs would the 5 gal bubble wash machine be too much for my needs?

Maybe I should do the same thing here. Start off small with 4x 1 gallon bubble bags and a 1 gal bucket. Then I can upgrade to the wash machine later if I feel it would benefit my needs somehow.

Seems pretty simply to rig up a drill with a stirring tool and just build a frame for it to sit on top of the bucket to do all the stirring for me.

Sound about right?

Thanks for your input!

The wooden spoon is a PITA, but it doesn't break up the material nearly as violently as a machine mixer. Depends on desired end quality vs quantity IMO. I guess if you were smoking the bubble you would want less contaminants, but if pressing in into rosin maybe you want to make sure you get it all initially? Good stuff to think about, I'll be doing some bubble next month :)

trying to make the heated pneumatic press happen this week
You're making a pneumatic press or buying one from somewhere? This I gotta see

I'm personally thinking that the dnail press will be for sift/hash only and I'll pick up a pneumatic press from The-Rosinator for bud squishing (unless you have a cheaper way of building your own pneumatic press. I'm all for the DIY as long as it doesn't require welding skills because I have absolutely none lol)

D-nail pneumatics are around the corner, I believe in the same sizes as the current mechanical offerings. Only domestic shipping will be offered though. ;)

Interested to see the results of any pneumatic press though, never seen footage of such a device :D

Ok, so I tried what everyone was wondering but noone actually thought would work. I squished tightly packed pouch of AVB.

I squished.

And I squished.

And just when I thought nothing would come out of it...

My fears were confirmed.

AVB was not successful, I did see a few oily spots on the musclin but nothing on the PTFE sheet. Damn. It smells nice though! Bizarre, kinda made me wanna eat it! But I will not, I don't like that edible effect lol

$200 from online auction :) Rosin gods were looking upon me that day.

Also make sure your hair iron is unplugged when done pressing. Can't stress this enough.

So Bubbleman's going to do some videos on pressing dry sift. He posted a preview vid and the results looked good though they didn't mention the yield.

oh i much prefer the idea of pressing dry sift over bubble. i have wanted to make a dry ice sifting apparatus of some sort, but originally this was to then do ethanol washes on the dry sift. the idea was to cut down on solvent needed for the extraction, but if pressing it will be better then i am very interested.

i still have never done any dry sift, but i am a screen printer and have access to screens of any size and porosity.

my ONLY issue is that i do not (and likely wont until my state wakes up) have access to plenty starting material. so i will be sifting a zip at a time and pressing that.

I'm actually planning on getting a dry sift machine to use for QWISO while I figure out a rosin press of some sort. If you're processing much less though you could probably go with a screened box instead or even a DIY mini tumble box if you're handy.

Here's what I did for my dry ice/bubble setup a few years back. Hopefully it'll help you out ...

First I bought the IPower bubble bag kit (awesome ratings and work great ime) on Amazon for about $20 (looks like it's closer to $30 these days). Then I went to home depot and bought 3 5 gallon buckets for about $10. Then cut the bottom off of one of them and cleaned up the edges really well so there were no burrs or sharp points.

The 2 intact buckets are for making bubble hash while the bucket with the bottom cut out is for making dry ice hash like so ...

So for a total of $40 you could be making dry ice hash and bubble hash.

I haven't made dry ice or bubble hash since I got my bho setup so this gear has been sitting in a corner for a few years. I'm excited to put it to use again once my press gets here.

I was thinking of how to do large scale batches of live rosin without losing terps and that's when the dry ice sift idea came to me. I plan to freeze the freshly harvested buds for about 48 hours then dry ice sift them, then squish the live dry ice sift. The only problem I'm coming up with is that I'd like to find some way to keep the surface that I'm sifting onto really cool without it collecting condensation. I don't even think this is really possible but if anyone has ideas I'd appreciate them.

All the dry ice sifting videos I've seen they throw the dry ice and material into a regular uncut bucket, then fit the bag over the bucket, tighten up, and flip it over. That way they can shake around and the material bounces around and sits back down on the mesh/goes through. Seems like it would be a bit easier to handle as you just shake the bucket over your collection area and you don't have to worry about any burrs damaging bags. I kinda like your idea more though personally since I have to watch out with my shoulders and lifting heavy stuff. I dunno about your cold collection area, do you have some sheet metal or a pane of glass that can fit in a freezer or something? Moisture would condense on the surface from being cold for a bit no? Kinda like how a glass full of ice gets condensation on the outside of the glass?

Your dry ice method sounds great. My setup was for an ounce or less at the time and it did the job well as there was barely a layer of buds and dry ice across the screen so I'd just shake it back and forth. Only did it once or twice since I was never impressed with the quality of dry ice hash as a lot of contaminant gets through with the resin heads.

Yeah that's the issue for the cold surface. I just know there are a few scientists around here and thought one of them might have a trick up his sleeve. I'm thinking a walk in freezer is going to be the only way to accomplish this and it's just slightly out of my budget for this project so maybe I'll just go with one of the giant slick sheets by oil slick at room temperature and see how that does.

My favorite rosin collecting spot is on top of the metal filing cabinet right next to the in-window A/C unit. It blows right on the side of the cabinet all day so the top is nicely chilled, and the rosin just shatters right up :)
Maybe some kernel of an idea there?

Found this that explains it a bit better. Basically you need to figure out a way to drop the relative humidity in the room your running it in. I think some surfaces are more likely to experience condensation so maybe putting down a different material would help.

seem interesting because of the design and that they only go up to 290 degrees. Plus being only $7, hard to go wrong. Curious if the plates will be removable like the others Im seeing in this thread.

This thing seems to run at about 230*F at maximum temperature with IR thermometer in 70*f ambient temperature. The plates feel weird vs other hair irons. Now to take it apart and mount it on a clamp without breaking it....

Got my eBay digi-temp straightener, thanks again for the linkage.

Pros (as compared to Conair wheel straightener)
-Quicker to get to temp
-Temp is within ~10 degrees of target
-Plate assembly is MADE to throw tons of weight on it....I think I could get a steel pipe fulcrum operation going on without breaking it

Cons
-Hot as balls....only way to say it so get an oven mitt
-Six weeks from China was a long wait

An hour later she's ready for jb weld and to clean up some wires. Cost about $40.00 to make

Bro, on the ends of the clamp, the part where the two pivoting ends are, do you have additional metal plate there to spread the force of the load on the heating plates so it's not focused on a very small area?
Are you using a new c-clamp every time you modify your design?
Oh and new parts list is needed, hehe

From what I gather, this is what I'm looking at:
10" Wooden Hand Screw Clamp for stability
11" Milwaukee C-Clamp pliers
JB Weld
High temp epoxy for the backside of the heating plates for more strength
Small 1/2 inch to inch metal or pvc tube and a dowel to make pucks with

What I'm thinking of doing is to jb weld some small metal plates to the ends of the c-clamp pliers and drill two holes in each plate. I will then figure out a way (with a jig or just good measurements) to sort of cast two bolts in the epoxy, not touching the heating surface but in the body of the epoxy, sticking up to mount to the plates that will be jb welded to the pliers. That way, if the heating plates fail, I can just unbolt them and put new heating plates on without trashing the rest of the unit.
What do you think?
