Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

nosmoking

Just so Dab HAppy!
And scrape twords the parchment facing me facing up to block all flinging onto my clothes or table.
I wouldn't ever recommend scraping your Rosin towards yourself if you have Rosin that is unstable enough that it will fling across the room...at least not unless your wearing glasses. Rosin in the eye may sound like one of those things that rarely happens, but once it happens once you will swear yourself away from it forever I'm sure.

I hate when it is all sap. You see it. You wanna smoke it. Your dabber just wants to paint with it :(
.
Try an icepack underneath it and it should help collect within seconds. If its really sappy and even an icepack won't work you can always throw it in the freezer for a couple hours and it will come right off your parchment.

I put my parchment in a jar and freeze it till it hardens.

I use the folded paper to cover the other half so it hits that, but good looking out. That does sound painful.

Thanks for the tips! I just need to order some bags (for pressing solventless), and one of these: http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-1...PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-204988148-_-204988146-_-N

Any recommendations on which bags/where to get pressing screens? Also, I can foresee the clamp breaking the hair straightener housing sooner than later, and was wondering how to go about removing the insides and plates, and how to safely install them onto the clamp!

A lot of my presses turn to straight shatter bits, that are impossible to collect. Any tips?

NICE !
search in this thread , someone did post a how to
on modding your hair straightener , right on to the vise .
I've got a Connair , still holding up without mod . YMMV

also , for flowers , I don't use any screens or mesh .

yeah , it's all fun and games , til someone loses an eye ...

I've never heard of xtronic before, certainly not a premium brand, their site looks useless http://xtronicusa.com/ absolutely no instructions on how to use their devices at all and no trace of your device on there. This is chinese gear dressed up to look like it's made in america.

It's the right wattage and the tips "look" right to me as well as the different tips,. The 3 different temp memory setting, temp correction and auto shut off, all sound like nice features! Hope they fit! ;)

Sorry if I sounded negative, I just had a look at the site and they look like passable chinese soldering stations, even down to the poor spelling and really bad grammar on the label, Cautions: Must to keep the handle on the holder before turn on the machine! but it's nice to see they have a service centre in the US though.

no, your fine. I have the same issue. Their site is poorly put together. I like the features and I only have to have one source. I hope the site doesnt reflect their product.

The Mash Mesh bags finally arrived! I got the 37u for dry sift and 90u for flower in the 2x3 inch size to match my plates. It will be a few days before I can make dry sift (my main goal) so I started with some Chocolope x PowerPlant flower that's been sitting in a bag with Boveda 62% for the last week or so. I broke it apart into smallish bits, packed in 3g then did a cold press/flattening to make more room and continued to fill it to about 6g then I folded the end over and cold pressed it again. Not enough to do anything more than flatten it out, if you have a gauge it shouldn't move. Then put it in a parchment pocket opened length wise and and pressed it on more parchment. The pic below is the first press, temp was roughly 220F, I gradually increased the pressure over a minute maxing out around 1666 I think? Didn't want to go to high and tear the parchment like I did before. First press/pass yield was 0.54g or 9% of 6g.

aETUEfj.jpeg

I did the second press after the chip had cooled and looks like a lot more dripping. You can see it drip out and and the sizzle sound is actually a bit loud like putting a tablespoon of butter on a heated frying pan. Yield for this pass was 0.45g or 7.5% bringing the total to 16.5%.

TVfiV5P.jpeg

The third press was minimal, only about 0.12g or 2% and looked to be lower quality so I stopped there and didn't take a pic. I'll make another post later today when I'm done processing it, I should have gone to bed hours ago lol. But I will say that collection was a breeze. All the big blobs just peeled off at room temp with a dabber, no scraping and and the rest just stuck to it. The total yield is 16.5% for the quality stuff or 18.5% when you count in the third run which could be used for other things if I don't like it. For reference my QWET yield for the same batch was about ~16.5% and I usually don't go higher than 15%.

So this was my first real large pressing with it ever and using burrito tech too, I started it on a whim at 3am and took my time with it (edibles kicked in somewhere in that time frame) and got 1.11g out of 6g from 3 pressings. So I still actually have a long way to go but my point is I'm brand new to actually making rosin (being an academic is different) and I made this stuff on a first try without much effort late at night high on edibles so once you've figured out the high pressure setup and plates and buy ALL the things you can at least hit the ground running.

Next step is dry sift, I might have some to try shortly. The bags should fit up 6-7g of dry sift but the yield from that should theoretically be more like 2.5-3g for 6g or 40-50%. I'm not sure if there will be a difference in net yield but I'll try to run both flower and dry sift to see for myself.

Edit: Just to be clear since I didn't mention it, I used the RosinWorks 3.5x2.5 inch plates mounted an a 10-ton H-press (only pressed to 5-ton) for the pressing. You should be able to get similar results with @Joel W.'s plates just need to fold the pouch over more for maybe 2x2 and the "guide" is 1g per sq inch so you'd be able to do about 4g at a time.

Nice results! When you consider the mesh perhaps robbed some of the yield, that's pretty good! I wonder if perhaps lowering qty of material packed into the mesh will help get a more efficient first press. Also, I can't easily dig it up now, but I seem to recall maybe 240F was an ideal temp for yields, provided you have the PSI to drive it.

Thanks for sharing!

I have a ss screen pulled out of a keurig personal kup I was going to try n press a gram of bubble through just to try SS. My plates are having a difficult time making it here it seems, nothing to do with @Joel W. He was great doing business with. Pony express is slacking pretty bad on this one. My solder station was delivered SO FAST! I used standard shipping and put my order in Sunday night/Monday morning and already got it today.

I don't think I lost much to the mesh, if the amount absorbed is the same each time then doing larger runs should technically lead to less losses over time. The parchment burrito that was directly touching the mesh just had a bit of rosin on the crease in the back but was otherwise pretty clean, seems nearly all of it squished out the front.

I checked priority tracking and they still show today as the delivery date (not that that means anything really) @iDRINKBLEACH Hopefully soon!
Its still in Washington :( still has bout half the country to go. I will be pressing this weekend for sure with it. What's the max hash I should/can press with those plates. I would like to try drip tech with burrito if possible.

Well that's awesome to hear. I tried using a 25u bubble bag cut to size as a screen for a kief press and was sad to see most of the goods were in the screen, so I haven't really tried since.

Regarding Boveda packs... I just got my first pack of 62% packs. Roughly how long do you think it takes an oz in a mason jar to rh with the boveda pack?

Maybe a day to be sure, depends on a lot of factors. If you got the small packs, maybe a toss a few inside the jar.

The Advanced Rosin Tech Facebook group got nuked this evening by Facebook, the new one is up here. The Hash Church FB group is here too. Both are closed so your activity there won't show up on your newsfeed.

Speaking of golden-ish, here is some solo gong hash rosin (yup, squished in a muslin cloth wrap with a good friend recently). The results are a very bowl of flowers tasting dab but without a lot of the harshness of a solo hit at high temp.

Solventless reclaim is amazing. Hey has anyone here managed to get results out of AVB yet? Has anyone rehydrated avb? I think we really need to get more moisture into it if we want it to squish. If it's been vaped, it should be expected to be beyond dry!
