Here is an up close picture of that "new pressing material" from FB. look at how this stuff puddles up... I want this now. :ko: Still no idea wtf it is yet or where to get it...

All they have shared so far is that it's "a new film (parchment alternative) that is rated for commercial heat platen systems up to 5000 psi and 500 degrees without loosing 1 drop of cannabinoids or terpenes during the process."

And it is not "teflon or phthalate , nylon , polyester, plastic or any petro chems."

This material looks really similar:

Teflon-coated-non-porous-glass.jpg

and it's available here:

https://www.acpsales.com/10-x-10-Non-porous-Teflon-Coated-Glass.html

This is a just a glass fiber mat that has been coated in PTFE. While it will perform better under mechanical pressure than slickpads, it will still potentially have the chemical leaching issues covered earlier in this thread.

Another company, cookina.co, sells non stick PTFE cooking sheets manufactured without PFOA. These might be something to look into if you're looking into using a PTFE-containing sheet. These sheets are designed to be used in ovens, and even on grills over open flame!

I don't know whether I'd be crossing a line to even mention whether I know beyond a shadow of a doubt what this substance is. While this glass/ptfe stuff looks similar (well spotted), I will suggest that this is not what the new d-nail alternative to parchment is (the one bubbleman got a while back, which looks like the one we are talking about? Correct me if I am wrong of course!).

Please be careful squishing down on anything with glass in it guys. Driptech could be epic on this though!

If it's not a plastic, that leaves metal, glass, and organics. It doesn't look like metal or organic material to me- so maybe it's fiberglass?

From a manufacturer:

"PTFE glass fabrics consist of a woven fiberglass that has been coated with a PTFE resin. They are designed for a wide range of applications and come in several grades to meet specific performance requirements. These fabrics have a nonstick surface, perform well under temperatures ranging from -100° F to 500° F. They also are chemically inert, have high tensile strength and have outstanding electrical properties."

Why does a material, which is not a plastic and does not appear to be organic, have a temperature limit of 500F? This also happens to be the same as the maximum safe temperature for PTFE glass fabrics, as stated above.

The picture I posted was of the new material sent from bubbleman, to the OP.

I did talk to the guy pressing without parchment. He would not go into details, but basically said he is building/using a press with heated glass pressing plates and dripping onto a glass collector plate (my guess). He was seeking a patent and holding on to his secrets tightly. lol, I hate that shit.

I may email the company in your first link and see what psi it is rated too? if it's 5000psi, we can make a guess or not.

Hi there,

New around here. Here in Amsterdam, I have access to high-quality import hash for relatively cheap. For example decent grade Moroccan hash from the coffeeshops around here (6-9 euro a gram stuff), will yield a 35-50% yield easily. Some of the higher grade stuff (10-18 euro per gram, depending on what, and from which coffeeshop) yielding probably up to 65%.

I've been pressing nugs too, and I do love the beautiful color, and terp profile that flower rosin offers. BUT that yield return is shit. Maybe I've gotten just shy of 25% once or twice, but even the with the same buds, it's like I find one that presses well, when I buy a small bag (like a gram, gram and a half), and then when I buy a few more grams to press my yield isn't as good; seemingly...

How do you guys gauge psi, for example? I have a hair-straightener with digital temp display, but the lowest it goes is 130 celsius. With hash (and sometimes nug) what I do, is set it a 130 and then as soon as I start pressing I turn the iron "off", and keep pressing, since that's basically all I can do to achieve a lower pressing temperature. Any advice, also any hash-rosin pressers on here?

I've found 70-80c is best for pressing hash. When using a hair straightener without temperature settings, it's possible to work with lower temperatures by using a thermometer and turning off the straightener when it reaches the desired temperature.

It may be necessary to start your press above 80c to compensate for the temperature drop that will occur when the straighteners are turned off. Higher temperatures may also be necessary if your mechanical pressure capabilities are limited.

I like to use 3-6kpsi when pressing hash. PSI can be calculated by dividing the pressure you apply in pounds by the size of your pressed chips in square inches. If you weigh 150 lbs and use all your weight to press, and your chips come out at about 1 square inch, then you are pressing at 150psi.

Guilty...no shops where I am, but I don't pay mark up.
hair-straightener (30 watt) and all my effort plus body weight. (85Kilos)
I tend to press until the sizzle subsides or lessens 20 seconds or so.
I agree about the returns versus flowers;
I'm thinking...
more flowers, a bubble run and then press...
Yarp..MORE Flowers.

Cheers

25% is pretty good for flowers really. I can not get there with store bought, only homegrown and even then, it varies from flower to flower from the same plant.

Did you see the vid @Monsoon posted ?
I'd fast forward several spots , but basically he states
that there are still some goodies left .

I grind my rosin chips and vape them , sometimes
adding some Fresh grind to give it better flavor .
Not that it tastes bad on it's own , and it still
has some kick to it .

Anyone tried to qwiso their chips ?
I am doing a green dragon type tincture, and have a bunch of single pressed chips for my next experiment... check out the rosin chips thread in this section

Shop press has been acquired! I got a friend to help me but neither of us is that strong, kinda surprised we managed to get it up to my place. Setup wasn't too bad on my own, still need another wrench for the pressure gauge and clamps or magnets to secure the centre platforms to the frame. I tested it out and seems to be working fine, just need my plates to arrive and I can start squishing!

@Izan and @AmsterDAB16 you guys are where we all started where 20 seconds was the maximum press time. Now we have found that with a simple vise and some stronger plates, we can press at 82C (180F) to around 100C (210F) or so for long press times. Watch @Joel W. latest video. The press is over two minutes and just looks amazing when complete...and the bonus? Better flavor from lower temperature presses

hey fam, been away for a bit. ive still gotta read the last 9 pages, but wanted to post pics of my rig with the spring return on it. also upgraded the nuts on the bottom to acorn nuts to reduce any damage to whatever surface the press is on when in use.

whole rig

close up of the spring return. it works fucking perfectly!

sad part is that since my last update with squish pics i have not had time nor flowers to press again. in short... no rosin... sucks. anyway, i should be sourcing some fresh headies soon so i hope to contribute with more squish pics soon.

im going to go read the 9 pages ive missed and likely edit this post with quotes n shit like that. not sure why im telling you all that last part, but yeah... im medicated. this thread is great.

That's awesome work dude! I see presses like yours becoming the norm for home users 6-12 months from now, it's compact, powerful and not too expensive.

So you press up to two minutes? My current tech with hash is as follows. 25 micron screen (nylon), folded/wrapped just enough to contain a .3-.6 piece of hash. Iron heated to 130 celsius, get wrap in between the tongs, turn OFF, the iron and press for 10-15 seconds by standing on the bitch. Press each wrap twice, done, collect nectar. That usually delivers me a 50% return, quite steadily when pressing hash...

Almost exactly my process. I use SS mesh or 25u pressing screen. Instead of parchment I use the Ikea pink mat and get about 12%-15% from flowers and 50%-65% from import cheese.
The iron was 10€ from the chino and the ikea pad was 8€. Simple, cheap, effective.

Happier than a 5 mother fuckers!

Mod note: posts merged - I'm guessing these posts should have been a pm and not posted in the general forum?

Also what are thoughts on hash-rosin potency versus flower-rosin potency, people? Anybody think hash rosin may be stronger? It certainly as previously mentioned gives a better yield. I've been pressing a lot of a really nice "Amnesia Block" from Coffeeshop Boerejongens in Amsterdam, (11 euros per gram). The stuff is allegedly an Amnesia polm hash, grown with Dutch genetics (obviously), in Morocco. It smells almost like just straight up Amnesia though.

The post-press smell and taste transfer over quite well, still not as terpy as flower rosin, but I'd argue certainly more potent. Actually yesterday when I was at the aforementioned coffeeshop, I saw that they had some local lab do a cannabinoid-profile analysis of a few of their products with the results displayed on a sheet of paper at the counter, including the Amnesia Block, which came in at just shy of 35% THC (definitely stronger than nugs out there I would think). Another great advantage of the imported hash here, is that similar analyses have shown that the import hash has much more CBD, than the high-grade nugs, the shitty import weed and the locally produced nederhash/ice-o-lator.

Stoked to see more Europeans getting into squishing hashes into rosin :D

I do squish flowers too but I do still find that from my own bubble hashes (3/4 star from the lesser bags) the rosin I press is much nicer than the rosin I press from flowers (which have a more planty taste). This is absolutely not to say that flower rosin isn't nice though ;)

Plus, my European counterparts above surely know what I'm talking about when I say it is just wonderful to squish 50%+ out of a puck into rosin :D Hash is definitely the rosin shortcut, especially if you have quality hash available to you ready made!
