It's still a t-shirt press imho...maybe a little more pressure but not enough for the size of those plates. See the little springs on there?...they won't do jack and I don't think that thing can provide enough pressure. If I were you and wanted to do more at a time, I would get what @BoogerMan got for a press and have @Joel W. make you some bigger plates/blocks. Using that setup, you wouldn't have ANY issue with pressure and with bigger plates/blocks, maybe two soldering irons per block or the @2clicker heating cartridges, again, two per plate/block? And it would still be cheaper I bet.

THC Bomb Bubble Hash (3.5 star melt)

Squished into rosin at 248f in a vise (heat is deliberate to promote degradation to CBN, this hash has cured for at least 2 years and serves as a spicey, fruity night cap :) )

EDIT: The next image was mistakenly posted as THC Bomb rosin but is in fact a 3rd squish of cluster bomb flower, still, I'll leave it here for your enjoyment :)

Fucking beautiful dude! I wouldn't mind doing a small grow someday but current living situation doesn't really afford it at the moment. The new Liberal government here is pushing forward with some sort of legalization so maybe I'll give it a try then if they allow personal grows or fully decrim it.

@PoopMachine Fair warning for the RosinWorks plates, the lead time might be over a month right now depending on your luck. From the sounds of it I think I only waited a week because I got a cancelled order. I think most of the work is being done by a single guy and they've mentioned issues sourcing components on time. They've also only been in business since October but you do get Paypal protection and they've so far issued refunds to everyone who's asked for one. If you go that route I'd treat it as a China glass purchase where it's best to order and forget. They got "pitchforked" on reddit last week because a guy was super impatient, rude and given a non-optional refund while their csr skills aren't top notch. People seemed to have forgotten this is more of an Etsy level op and not Amazon.

That said, depending on your budget and needs I would maybe go with a cheaper setup for now and wait maybe 6 months when the market should have more evolved and reviewed rosin presses on the market. I would probably say all the good rosin press options available right now are still at the 1st Gen/beta stage and at least quasi-DIY.

hi all, just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's contributed to this thread, it's been massively helpful, I can now medicate cleanly without worrying if someone else is doing it right :) I know you're all going to turn round and say 'the credit is due elsewhere...' to soilgrown/bubbleman et al. but 89 pages says you lot have been on this from the start and putting free information out there.

The recent posts with presses and plates have been very entertaining and interesting, I'm happy with a set of straighteners and a vise for my own limited use, I've managed to glean enough information from what you've been doing in the last few weeks to settle on a good technique nice and quickly with little waste.

@EpicNameGuy , I read a post on FB saying one of the main reasons it is hard to test for silicone is because most of the seals in the testing equipment, are made of silicone? Any truth here?

I also see a guy on FB pressing in the vertical and just letting the rosin drip onto parchment. He has not disclosed the details of his setup yet but it seems similar to when I tried using the teflon coated jaws in the vise and letting it drip onto parchment..

He is pressing 86g at once where I was pressing less than a gram, but it does take the silicone question out of the equation for sure. I am all for that, until we know for sure.

I'm pretty sure he is using parchment. If you search that group by his name there is one other picture of his press where you can see the parchment sticking out. He also uses stainless steel screens.

Anyone familiar with PEEK? I was reading it can be used as a coating that has nonstick properties like ptfe, works under temps to 500*F+, and displays excellent resistance to wear over wide ranges of pressure and temperature.

I'd fast forward several spots , but basically he states
that there are still some goodies left .

I grind my rosin chips and vape them , sometimes
adding some Fresh grind to give it better flavor .
Not that it tastes bad on it's own , and it still
has some kick to it .

Anyone tried to qwiso their chips ?

You can see on warm nugs that there's liquid of some description on them, they're soft and sticky as anything cos they're still covered in happy glue.

Tell me brother, have you presquished the nugs with a hash press? If so, do you find you can fit much more in these plates? I think we could reasonably fit 3-4g in those (however there will be some loss of PSI force due to larger surface area to squish).

@davesmith that's a great idea my friend! I'll get onto that a little later on :) I use slick wrap so I can get some nice close up shots of the pigment absorbed into the silicone/cellulose matrix. I can't believe I haven't already checked that out under the scope - kudos to you on a great idea ;)

Hey brother, sorry I missed this one! Yup never used solvents on my chips as I'm sure there'll be some less than nice tasting thermal degradation byproducts that come out of the nug too lol. I saw Johnny B's video too and like you, made liberal use of the fast forward controls (I am familiar with how to use a GC lol). Definitely another great way to see what's left in there though :D

I made some presquished coins a while back with a home made pollen type press, but the oil was much darker. if you put too much in, it will just spread the herb out thinner until it spits out the jaws. All that movement tends to stretch the paper out from the center. I think the paper gets a little wavy on the circumference of the jaws and thinner in the middle.

In the vid, I just squish it with my fingers a bit once folded inside the parchment for best results for the least visible wear on the paper.

I am only using about 30 to 40% of the vises known potential for these 2" jaws.

Yea I've kinda settled on a "joint roll" move when I put the bud in the paper. Least amount of trich loss/labor, and since I'm still using hair iron plates the shape of a joint fits well.

Ya , I get those wavy lines on my parchment paper too ,
which sorta makes it harder to scrape up with my razor blade .
So these 2 new tips , I've gathered and practicing currently .
1. pre-steam my buds

This is a just a glass fiber mat that has been coated in PTFE. While it will perform better under mechanical pressure than slickpads, it will still potentially have the chemical leaching issues covered earlier in this thread.

Another company, cookina.co, sells non stick PTFE cooking sheets manufactured without PFOA. These might be something to look into if you're looking into using a PTFE-containing sheet. These sheets are designed to be used in ovens, and even on grills over open flame!
