Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

Have any of you all tried more than one brand of filter bags?
Do you have a preference?

I've only used DP bags so far and have tried 90 and 160 offerings. I've been most happy with the 160 bags in the 2x4 size using bottle tech.

I need more bags and am definitely ordering more of these from DP, but I am also tempted to discover if there are other competitive options with regards to quality.

Funny that you just asked, Dabpress were too expensive for shipping to me so I have just tried some new 120ua bags, less than US$ 0.50 ea...delivered,
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/50-x-Ro...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Tried them today, dd a 70C (158f) 5 min total at 2500psi (gauge)max for 1.05g (10.5%),

img_20200105_170835-jpg.15471

Same crappy winter mid section buds as my last 50g squish. More of the low temp rosin and the puck that still looks perfect,

img_20200105_170804-jpg.15472

Repressed the puck at 95C (203f) and pushed the pressure up to 3000psi (gauge) to see how the bag would go, looks good to me...a further 0.35g,

img_20200105_170545-jpg.15473

So the total yield is 1.4g from 10g of less than stellar buds, 14% is still OK as it looks like it will dab well, I will ley you all know how well it cleans up compared to the 160 bags soon.

I am really curious and confused about why a 160 micron bag is best for fresh material and 90 micron is for older drier material. As of now i have only been using 160 micron for both fresh and older flower. I am using 3.5g bags in my nugsmasher mini.

What difference will i notice if i use the 120 or 90 micron bags for the older drier material?

In my limited experience, having gone down to 90 [but I have not yet tried a 120], I prefer the 160.

I find 160 is a tougher bag that allows me to press to a higher pressure on my gauge without blowout.

Not sure what difference age of product would make, assuming it was stored in a proper fashion and maintained at an acceptable humidity level.

The lower count micron bag should be stronger, must be the supplier using an inferior material on the 90 compared to your 160's:2c:

Here is wjat the nugsmasher website says:

(HOW TO CHOOSE MICRON)
MICRON SIZE 160,120,90,37
Micron Sizes can be chosen based on the type of material and condition of the material
160 Micron for flower real fresh Sticky 68-75% humidity
120 Micron for flower not real fresh starting to crumble 64-67% humidity
90 Micron for flower dry breaking apart 63% humidity or less
37 Micron for Sift, Kief, Hash and/or Isolate

What difference should i notice if i use the 120 or 90 micron bags for the older drier material? I'm not sure what benefit it will give to use less microns.

Just means a 'cleaner' end result with lower microns. The drier the material, the more chance of tiny, crumbly particulates getting thru larger micron holes.

I've been almost solely using Rosin Evolution bags, which I have been liking. I'll try some dab press tho next time, just to compare.

Thanks! Do you think that will result in much less yield?

I have just about finished an experiment using 10g bottle tech 90,120, & 160 mic bags on the same Oct 2018 stored at 62% bud that is still sticky and not crumbly at all, the Nugsmasher site is full of shite with their %=dryness chart.:2c:
I found the 120 and 160 were the easiest to use as the 90 seemed to blow out easier than the other 2.
Pictures and results here, #229 on,
https://vaporasylum.com/threads/rosin-tek.30/page-12
All gave me 13 to 14% return which was pretty good as I never went above 95c(203f) while pressing.
I am now in the process of dabbing the different rosin micron gear on a clean Sic Halo to see if I can see any difference in the residue left behind.:science:

Very nice work! I decided to order all the different sizes and do the same thing. Guess i should have trusted FC would do the work for me. Look forward to hearing how the taste test goes.

Thanks Les!

I've not found any odd smell with DP bags, looked at the evolution bags but they get damn expensive too when buying any reasonable quantity.

Yeah, this and the sheer amount of bags and paper I can get thru are what is making me head towards ice water washes and then pressing. Pressing flower is too much disposable stuff.

Dont wanna bash DP bags they are indeed fine bags, but after testing them side by side going thru serval pounds of herb i do find the evolution to be slightly more flexible and 100% smell free, Not that it really matter in the end, i dont think a little smell would carry over. And if they also are cheaper then i guess its just a personal choice-

... Currently on a break from both dabbing and pressing since i totally lost controls of the amounts i was consuming (lol) having so much great material around brought some super addictive traits to the light

If im to start producing again at some point it will be going the wash route aswell, smaller amounts of some higher quality and then restrict dabbing to special occasions, going back to dry herb / dry sift on the volcano when break is over. I simply cant control having "unlimited" amounts of oils around, xD..........

"Unlimited" access will do that :) I empathise greatly :)

Thankfully/luckily/sadly, I'm in a position that it doesnt really matter any more, but then I also did years of therapy about my booze intake and all the other stuff.

I recommend a good therapist! ;)

37u is pretty much the only size I use across the board. Here's some Platinum OG flower I pressed the other day at peak ripeness.

My philosophy on micron bags is why filter flower with a more porous bag than hash, when flower has much more potential for contaminant?
