Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

just read a leafly article about solventless extracts that talked about whipping rosin with warm dabber to get more of a budder consistency. This is news to me, wondering if anyone else has heard of or tried this?

Yes it works. It's not different than BHO in that regard. When you stir or otherwise agitate the terpenes out, it tends to shift to a budder/crumble. It can happen based on the natural ratios of terpenes:wax:cannabinoid the extract has as well.

haha id like to make use of all my old bho gear as well! i use to make the bomb honeycomb

what temps are u getting crumble at?
210-220, thats where i always press. For 30 seconds, with the paper folded so most puddles outside the plates.

Theres a relatively quick and easy way to get your rosin to butter without stirring out the terps, that was even mentioned on hashchurch. I figuered it out on my own accidently, It's been my problem since the first time i pressed anything, was buttering... its a pain to handle i think... but if you want butter, here ya go..
Leave your rosin on parchment. Fold it over, and hold it in your hands to warm it slightly, enought so it sticks to the parchment. Open the parchment slowly, so the oil smears itself on both sides. Close and repeat 3 or 4 more times. Forget the patty for the night, folded up and away, and in the morning its almost always a butter. If not fully buttered, halfway there. The longer it sits, it turns into cakebatter, and even longer i'm sure a crumble, but my oil dosn't sit around to experiment...

With some rosin letting it butter up will make it taste noticeably better, with some makes no difference in taste, and then even rarer ruins the taste...
Theres a whole thread on auttobutter and buttered oils.

Peace and good things, everyone.

I didn't want to sound "putz-ey" here since this thread (I watched from beginning) has so much energy! And I didn't want to send everyone backwards or "bump" (?) it!

Was just hoping for opinions of which of the LOW-end processes ended up working best after all the testing - curling irons, etc. I have been doing QWET for years, and have it down fairly well. But I upgraded my rig and tried rosin AGAIN...and please yes please.

I figured this thread had gotten pretty mature, and most of the cheaper DIY ideas had been tested in real life by FC folks so...

OldOyler would love to make some, but...anything over $100-150, well...I already *do* have a rosin guy, you know? :)

If I could run 10g of dry at a time through a process (I understand that makes about 1g rosin - Of course, I would love to be able to do like I can with QWET and run an oh zee minimum.) I would be crazy happy, but I am (painfully) used to following step-by-step instructions and in the QWET world, it's pretty easy to see if someone's process on FC that I wanted to try was *way* off the norm or something.

I have plenty of parchment and now some slick sheets, but I think those aren't needed in the same way. Or something. Good news - I'm married, and I smell a lot of burning before my wife leaves for work every morning (to return her hair to its natural beauty only, of course) so I am pretty sure I have a curling iron retirement community in our linen closet...

Again, not trying to be a pain - I'm just hoping low-end cost DIY for rosin has sort of an "FC community-accepted process" and a general set of possible equipment now, after all the time and testing by FC'ers, so to speak.

Peace and good things to everyone!

Hi Olyer! What your looking for is a hair straightener and a clamp. I don't know much on this setup, but I know the information is in this thread. Try this link, it may help.

Best of luck!

Awesome! You have my thanks.

Saw the post in results list, and who else hammered it home for me but @Quetzalcoatl .

I have ordered my dry, will try it, and then post first run next week!

Peace to you, and many thanks!!

I press at 150 just with straighteners but I get between .45 and .49 back from 1g
Check the avatar each of those is 1 gram of leb (.45)
I use 25 micron stainless steel mesh
Only need to press once
The darker ones are higher in cbd and the lighter thc
Both shatter

Can I bug you on where you get your mesh?

Thanks, and peace!

Finally got around to making a quick set of plates for big blue. I did about 8 squishes and realized that I really need to be able to go very slow. This thing is pretty much full throttle in go mode.

Going too fast makes the herb squish out the sides of the jaws before the oil can catch up, so I had to load about half as much as normal as I would for the vise.

I think I will stick with the vise for my squishes over this loud monster.

Hi guys, I had a question about something I've been seeing using my Bolton vise and custom plates by Joel.

I'm not sure how much pressure I am putting in, but my best guess is using the pressure chart Joel had found for milling vises, and I'm guessing around 600 psi for my 2" dia round plates using a torque wrench at between 50-70 ft-lbs

Sometimes when I'm pressing, especially if I'm at the higher end of pressure, I'll notice that my parchment has tiny green dots of, what I'm assuming is, plant matter/chlorophyll. I don't get blowouts and I use an outer layer of parchment paper as well.

Does this mean I'm pressing too hard or something? I only do 1 press because I get yields between 18-22 pretty consistently, and the second press is always much darker/greener.

I usually press between 180-220F, and I think I see this more if I'm warmer, but can't be certain.
Any info or tips on the matter would be very helpful.

I get my SS mesh on Ebay from bennythestooge , but it's made by 316t wholesale. I use a 25micron for first pass QWISO filtering and 10micron for final clean uo and it is pretty good :)

For rosin I'm still in the low-buck camp as well, a $15 clamp-on vise and $4 thrift store hair straightener is about as cheap as it gets lol... It works perfectly fine for a head stash, you should have no problem getting well over a gram of oil off 10g of good flower with nothing more elaborate IMO.

It's oil that seeped out from old presses, it sat on the plates and turned dark from the heat over time. The same thing used to happen to me. Start doubling or even trippling up on layers of parchment and the problem goes away. it keeps tiny stems from poking holes in the parchment.

Is it possible for bubblehash to be too dry? Tried to squish some last night and it doesn't seem there is anything in this hash. It's very dry, def not great. Plan on trying a vise next to see if that improves things. Wondering if it's pointless pressing it.

It's certainly possible IMO, I hate pressing flower that's too dry, yields suck lol. I take dry flower and toss it in a jar with a damp cotton ball (not touching the herb) and put the jar on my cable box (it gets hot to the touch) for 30mins or so to get a good sweat inside the jar. If I can ball up the herb and it doesn't crumble I figure it's good to go ;)

Boveda packs are perfect for that issue! i also just today learned the packs can touch the buds, causing zero issues. You also never have to worry about timing either. They do all the work and are only like $10

Yuppers!

Love Boveda 62s, great for storing any dry herb over 60 days (yes, still use ball jars but no, I was not here when glass was invented...)

Peace and hydrated pucks to all!

316t wholesale is awesome! Pretty sure he doesn't actually make the mesh though. It's just one guy who turned his garage into a shop and busts ass. Swung by his shop a little bit ago to pick up some mesh and we ended up chatting for an hour or so, dude's super chill and extremely knowledgeable. He also makes a huge tumbler.

No one presses below 150*F?

I have concerns passing on low temp rosin in a storage/contamination sense, but that may be averted with labeling for refrigeration.

Unsure if this would cause consumer anxiety but if it tests clean, no chance of the deadly poopsoup label on your name.

Dry bubble is a bugger. Ordering Boveda 60 through 70 for testing. Anyone compared RH for yield/quality/consistency?

Omega parts are so fackin' expensive but it feels better than ordering the Guandong Special. I haven't squished in weeks and am antsy to finish this Ark.

help is needed here :wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave:

Do any of these presses require an air compressor to operate?
Can the manual lever apply the desired amount of pressure?

Is this everything i need?

- Harbor Freight 20 ton A Frame
- Harbor Freight 20 ton hydraulic air jack bottle
- Pressing Plates
- PID temp control unit

I believe that you'd need some heaters to plug into the pid unit, to heat the plates. I am using a bench vise setup so can't comment much more. Without links or pics it's hard to answer your question definitively.

Hey thanks! i think the Pid temp controller heats the plate.
But I'm not positive

i was hoping to put together something similar to this,

Mine doesn't have to be the exact same setup, but does that help understand me more?
