There is a stainless steel sleeve that you cannot see, under the heat exchanger top disk (the disk with two holes) . The top disk is sandwiched tightly between the sleeve and the two clips. Sandwiched tight.

Of course gravity will keep the heat exchanger against the sleeve in the case of displaced clips. Displaced clips are displaced upward leaving a gap between the clips and the top disk. The sleeve and heat exchanger can't move down. Since the hole is one inch and the top disk just a little under 1", displaced clips will allow the heat exchanger to beat back and forth. This will widen the hole, over time , and trying to re-seat the clips after the hole has been beaten out of shape will result in loose clips and further problems.

What point is there to asking you questions? Your answers are soley based on your insistance that my unit was impacted or hit on it's top! I will state again this "NEVER HAPPENED" and I will stand by that fact until my dying day! period! You maintain the clip could not possibly dislodge or rise on it's own over time from repeated heating and cooling, light spanking or any other factors. Asking you questions based those circumstances is pointless then, Isn't it? I don't require warranty work because I am quite capable of fixing it myself via stacked rings or whatever, so you don't have to worry about that. It just pisses me off that I ask a simple question, and I am accused of neglecting my beloved PD. This MUST be an issue for others too, because you have updated your website (warranty section) with a disclaimer about loose clips, and how you are not responsible ect! Of course you are not going to admit fault or design flaw, but please atleast "man up" and accept the possibility that other factors could be at play here. Thanks again.

Like I said, we have a liberal warranty and you , just don't want to go that route. I'm sure you have your reasons, so there isn't much we can do to help you. Good luck with your repairs. :2c:

Hey Wolf, just email them. If you could fix it you would have already, eh? :2c:

Just haven't made it to the hardware store yet to buy some more 1" retaining rings. Once I get them in place, I can't see why it wouldn't snug down the HE. It's a simple device that requires a simple fix , not a TV set.

So my unit came in the mail today :) and I have a couple questions.. There's sawdust inside the steel tube where you put the tube/stem in, I used a cotton swab to get most of it out but theres a bit left further down. Is there another method of getting the sawdust out, dont want it lining my throat lol

And there isn't any reseating required before first using it? Thought I read somewhere that the tool needed to be used before using the PD, didn't see it in the instructions so I think it's my bad memory but just in case...

And do most people attach a whip to the plastic stem or is it better to take it off and mate the whip to the metal stem? I was thinking of using a silicon whip with my hmk curve. The plastic tube is too large to fit through the gap made by tiny bits of glass that jut out for a screen to rest on, but a silicon whip attached to the metal stem would fit nicely up through the bell into the reduction.

Lip, the re-seating tool is used for two things. If you drop the unit hard, on it's top, and the clips are forced out of position as described earlier, you insert the tool and give it a whack to put the displaced clips back in place and re-secure the Heat Exchanger. There is no need to use this tool if the clips are in place, as it was shipped. Second, as you may have noted when you opened the package, the clip tool is used as a packaging aid to keep everything secure during transport. So, put the tool in a drawer and if you ever need it, use it, or contact us if you have questions or loose the tool.

We shop vac and tac rag all units after sanding and before finishing. I think a bit of dust from the clip tool hole got knocked loose when I gave your unit the final whack before shipping. Blow or vac any dust away, sorry about that, we try to ship perfectly clean unit. This is the second or third time I've heard this and I think getting a Forstner bit will leave a cleaner hole in the clip tool, less chance of reisual dust clinging to the inside and being knocked loose. Yes, I whack and vac all clip tools before they are used. This bit has been on my list for a week but I've been avoiding the holiday crowds... guess I'll have to sneak into Lowe's about 7 AM...

I'm lost by your third paragraph. I don't know anything about 'glass' . Stretchy 3/8" inside diameter silicone tubing works well stretched over the 1/2" diameter poly tube.

Got most of the sawdust out, there was some left but I don't think it'll be a problem. It got hit for the first time, in two ways. Tripped over the power cord and that knocked it off my stand about 1.5 ft to the carpet and the tranformer came out of the wall socket. And through my little water piece after, which I'm still feeling 2 hours later. It really delivers nicotine :o

It says in the manual that the plug/cord is broken if the wall unit is slightly warm? What is it supposed to be, hot? Or not warm at all? I'm just worried about and slightly frustrated at my mistake.. But what can come loose or break if the PD is knocked over/dropped besides the retaining clip, like the heating element or something inside wouldn't break? Just kinda want to know what to look out for in case I make another mistake like this again or if something inside malfunctions. :uhoh:

Lip says, "It says in the manual that the plug/cord is broken if the wall unit is warm?" No, that is not what was said. The wall power supply is supposed to be warm, I think if you re-read you will see that. Feel any of the other wall warts or power supplies in your house, they are all warm. PD is no different.
It's a simple induction AC to AC transformer and like any transformer will get a little warm.
Glad everything is working as it should.

I have been emailing him with no problems. Try him again. He just sent me another email this morning saying that said he'll be putting 7 new inlines on ETSY this afternoon, so keep your eyes peeled if you're interested.

Once I got used to using this thing (it's a little tricky to load and unload bowls and you can't readily check your abv color like I'm used to) I have found it to be an absolute pleasure. The hits are just awesome and smooth. You do need to have a good place to keep it as you don't want to just lay it down. Care must be taken to ensure that it stays vertical as just a little bit of water in the lower chamber will spoil your day as I sadly learned the hard way.

:peace:

Edit: I just checked ETSY and here are his new inlines One cool thing I noticed on some of his new pieces is a carb which is a great idea and something that I wish I had on mine. I'd recommend the carb model if you're in the market for a Xmas present for yourself. :brow:

I am so glad ClearDome has started selling PD inlines again! :) Definitely next on my shopping list.

Lip, my unit had a little saw dust from the resetting tool in it as well. The vacuum is probably your safest bet, but if for whatever reason that is not an option I have found that using a can of compressed air works incredibly well, which I believe has been mentioned before. Here's my method: First I unplug the PD, and then I'll take the can with the little nozzle extension attached and hold it about an inch away from one of the two holes on the top of the heat exchanger and blow a couple soft bursts of air into each of those two holes. The most important thing to remember is to hold the can in a vertical upright position the whole time, so this means that the PD should be in a horizontal position (if you put it on the table it would roll). Holding the can upright ensures that no liquid or moisture comes out with the air. Also, be careful because any abv that might be in the air way will come flying out, so don't have it aimed at your eyeball (probably goes without saying, but you never know). I then check the airway with a flashlight or other bright light and repeat if necessary. If the airway is clean I will then use my own breath to blow from a distance through the same two holes in order to flush out any of the compressed air's gases. I then plug the unit back in, let it sit for a bit, and then continue normal use. :)

Also, I was so stoked today when I went to my door and saw a package with my name and address written in purple ink! I got my bowl from the Halloween costume contest! Thank you sssooo much Tom and Pammy! It's gorgeous, and it looks even more awesome next to it's matching PD. :D I already took a picture of it  I'll attach it below.

I do have one question that I have not seen addressed. This buzz butter stuff is so awesome, but my question is, where does it go? I'm assuming it just soaks into the wood right, and If so, does that mean that the unit will need less buzz butter less often if you keep applying it when the wood begins to feel less smooth? Also, if it does get absorbed into the wood does that mean that it is conditioning the interior wood where the H.E. is located and would that help lessen the charring effect that can happen over time? I might be way out in left field here, so please fix my logic if I am.

Nice pic.

I'll have to do a cross section for proof... but here are prelim conclusions from many years of woodworking, carpenter and PD builder experience...

Plant Oil and Bee's Wax products like mine only penetrate 1/8" to 1/4" from the surface they are applied to.
It depends on the wood species and grain direction and this is an estimaated average. It's a surface protector and cleaner. It's the best I can make. Keep it away from any metal parts, it is for exterior wood use and leather use (optional) only.

We make the stuff with Bee's wax from the Tahuya River Apiaries, a chemical free habitat. We use Organic Flax Oil, Organic Coconut Oil and Organic Hemp seed oil in our formula. Zero petrochemicals or Coal extracts since Day 1 .

I've been shoooing bee's lately. It's a nice time in the Rockazona outdoors (out the front door, anyway).

Of course we have a pink and purple scheme... and some

Nice rig there Stu. Seems like there's a bit of diffusion going on there, hows the taste?

Tom sorry I misread, but there's nothing to worry about besides the retaining clip if a unit is dropped? No parts malfunctioning or possibly breaking or anything?

It's pretty rugged. The retaining clip seems to be the biggest issue. Anything can happen I suppose. Don't worry though sir, it's money WELL spent. :peace: :2c:

Ok now my unit is turning into more of a durability test unit, some water spilled out into the heat exchanger while I was taking a hit, not a lot but it created a nice plume of steam. Going to take a break from the medication for a bit haha Im losing it :peace:

--little story about buzzbutter--

my black walnut PD developed a stain on it's upper exterior last week. I am not sure what I let touch and stain my PD, but water did not remove the stain. i was worried...

but....I just buttered her up and let her dry and the stain is gone! Pretty Cool, thank T+P!
