What's Going On?
^ Bump.

I agree with lord based on the fact that I use the suck and finger tamp, but my finger just doesn't cut it, it is a bit fat to get into what I want. I think it would be fun to play with.

Although the drawbacks are numerous. It would be small, therefor easily lose-able with altered states of mind , other methods of packing seem fairly easy (that is up to one's own opinion though), it would be another item that Tom would have to make and distribute.

But it would be fun and I would probably get one, if ever produced... I'll probably find or make my own.

Are my PM's/emails coming through Tom? I've sent a couple over the past month, I don't know if hotmail is playing up or not.

PD related, couldn't think of any other way to contact you besides FC.

Hippie, Mr. Ohm is the starting point. You really can't discount him in such a simple set-up and equation.

1/4" dowel would work for packing. I see no need, but you can use what you like.

Chubba, maybe not, try hitting the e-mail link under my user name.

You're right, of course -- but i think it is your heat exchanger that provides the missing link that makes Mr. Ohm work.

i never achieved enough thermal mass in a very long series of my simple ohmic designs to satisfy me -- and lord knows i tried.

But with thermal mass comes the trade off of a longer warm-up time. So we are each looking at the elephant from different ends. Life is full of trade offs.

Also, i think your thermal mass solves the heat saturation problem i was seeing after extended run time, which was a serious operational problem for my design -- couldn't keep it plugged in all the time.

And still i had the long warm-up time -- running at lower voltage (5v) but with an expected/calculated 3a current draw (required for nichrome 60 to hit 400F).

One thing about Tom and Pammy.... They always exceed my expectations. Thanks on the package. The little whip tubes work great w/ my glass, and my second Billy Bowl is even nicer then my first. Oh, and the buzzbutter in the shape of a bee is cool as hell. Think I should throw it in a ziplock, or is it ok just wrapped in paper towel? Thanks again.

Using the PD directly on the downstream without a whip, what is the advantage of the shorter tubes versus the stock ones?

if you have a shorter bong like me, a 100ml, a short stem means you wont have your PD right in your face.
When I use normal length stems the PD sits right in front of my face...

Ahhh.........ok. I don't have that problem with my HVY Mini-beaker. Just wondering if there were any other advantages. Thanks Devo.

because it is shorter it might also be a bit more stable maybe? not prone too falling out of your bong by accident?
for me it all form over function

If I were too hook it up too a hose, a mini stem would make sense too me as well

Just got on the waiting list!

After reading all the way through this epic thread (and many others) I decided my first vape should be a PD. I have read soooo much and it really seems like a winner through efficiency and quality. I literally can't take more than 1 medium sized hit from any pipe. It's too much. I get soooo high. I've had this low of tolerance since I started up again 3 months ago. This is very weird to me as I used to smoke all day every day for like 10 years. I think it has something to do with my blood pressure or something. I have no idea. I'm not in a medical MJ state so I can't get it for my Glaucoma but we shall see; 2010 is the year of the plant amiright? (fingers crossed)

What really swayed me though is the integrity of Tom and his wife Pammy (Sorry, not sure if you want strangers to use your first names). They seem to really care about their products. Quality is extremely important to me, whether it be the product itself or the support provided for that product.

The PDP kit sounds awesome! I probably would have ordered that instead if it was available and cheaper as I am very handy and have some skills in the electronics department and don't have much money. Hell, I'd even just buy the plans to do it as I initially discovered the PD in a search on DIY vapes.

Anyways, I'm rambling and it's my first post so yeah... Thank you Tom, Pammy, fuckcombustion, and the rest of you folks.

I cannot wait!!! :D

Gotta run Kali gets her stitches out this morning. She's a big girl now...

Waiting to go...

The shorter Whip-Rippers (tm) were by request of a customer. They are to his specifications. They were intended by him for use in glass with water and ice filtration. Having used them for a short time now, and tried the traditional length stem out, I use the shorter ones(with glass). I'm sure for shorter glass the shorter stem is a plus, but I think it has more to due with the geometry of glass/stem/PD. The longer stem is more awkward because the weight of the PD is at the end of a longer lever. That's my observation.

The name Whip-Rippers, was from thinking, why have that extra length and weight of the standard stem if you are adding flexible tubing (aka whip) length anyway?

In addition to the "whip-rippers" being convenient for use with tubing, putting less torque on a GonG joint, and possibly making the PD easier to manage in some circumstances...there is the original reason that I personally shrunk my PD stems (there is a post about this somewhere before the whip-rippers came out).

I mainly cut off the stems and filed them down to the base of the stainless steel tip to create an airpath that was all stainless steel and glass (I have even attached a GonG joint to the remaining polypropolyne at the base of the stanless steel tip, using an inch of silicone tubing--the glass touches the bottom of the stainless steel tip). This has made it MUCH easier to clean the stems, as there is just a glass tube and the stainless steel nub to scrape goo out of or wipe with a Q tip (removing/replacing screens is much easier with access from both ends as well).

Hope this helps.

If you have a problem with a product you should contact the manufacturer. We run the units in overnight, and cherry is a stable wood, but any wood can misbehave. Get in touch with us. These folks can't do anything for you. :2c:

We are happy and sad to announce, we have a new King of the Heap. Sorry, for the former king (who gets a consolation prize) and happy for the NEW top guess.

my canadian PD owners: any idea where to find the transformer locally? the source didn't have it, at least the one closest to me. and the only one i remember them having was this BIGGGGG thing that had mulitple connectors. im trying not to order online, so i can get it asap, but if i must, i must. my pd fell about 2 days ago. not sure if its the pd or transformer yet, because i have no where to go to test the car adapter, and i dont feel like sitting in the car in this cold weather for nothing. since the fall, it hasn't heated up at all. the fall was a 2 foot drop onto concrete. im HOPING its just the cord. thanks guys.

Wallmart sells a wall adapter for the car plug that's rated at 12v 1000ma like you need. It'll let you use your car adapter with a normal wall plug. Not the best long term solution but it will get you going.

Yeah, a bit of rattle can be corrected with a few taps on the retaining ring. But that's mechanical, not electrical.

Most common cause of failure is breaking of the Type M power plug on the wall power supply. Running over the cord, shutting in a door, jerking etc. can damage a cord and is the second most common failure. Far, far outnumbering all other failures combined. Either of these usually show no visible sign of damage.

The plug end (Type M) can be obtained from Radio Shack for $2.99 a pair. If you can solder, unplug the power supply and cut back to fresh cord and replace. There is no polarity.
