Yeah, that's the correct method, at least one that has worked for me. If it gets stuck and you're finding it hard to turn the head in the coil you can also put the zx on a surface, place your thumb on the top of the inverted head and push down and twist the coil to loosen the spiral at the same time.
I use mine at 500f give or take 20 degrees... I like a light roast but it's a good place to start.

Learned this the hard way—burned a couple fingers when setting up a tight new coil with a slightly used Phase3 ZX head. If your coil feels overly snug right out of the box, don’t worry—that’s common. But there’s a better way to handle it.
First, heat the coil up fully before inserting the head. Let your PID bring it to your usual temp (for me, 365–385 °F), and give it a good 10–15 minutes to soak. The metal expands with heat, and that alone loosens things up.
Once hot, gently test the fit. Don’t jam the head in, especially not cold. Use tongs or gloves and ease it in with a slight twist. If there’s resistance, stop—let the coil gradually adjust.
A few quick “dry runs” help too: pop the head in for a second, take it out, repeat a few times. This wears in the coil just enough for a smoother fit.
Avoid cold insertions and never force it—an easy way to crack your head. No lube needed—just heat, patience, and a few gentle trials.

Looks like the ZXXL is back up for pre order and I just ordered one. Hot damnit I’m happy to be joining the wait. Got my ZX about a month ago, now when the ZXXL arrive I will be set
Went back to the site after I ordered was going to place order for a friend. And looks like just that fast it’s over.

I was just looking on there right now cuz I'm ABOUT to take the plunge on the next preorder for the ZX bowl (so I can use with my 14mm Omega injector head) and came here just to get the most recent update on where things are at - mannn.... if I had seen that available, I might've taken up on that too.... Looks like it was for just one spot. Get a lottery ticket now! Lolll

I got my ZX not long ago, and it's quickly taken top spot! This thing is amazing at a range of temps - just pure convection flavor. I can crank it up to 550 with a bong, and 470 on a J-hook is tasty town. I've settled around 500-530 with a small bubbler.
For me, the micro-dosing nature was a minor revelation (pun intended). The ZX can get so much out of so little, so quickly, and with such flavor. I may try the other screen settings at some point, but the top shelf does perfectly satisfying micro-rips. With a half-scoop in the ZX, I get a few quick tasty lungfuls, and full botanical extraction.
I felt kinda clumsy with the tiny bowl, so I added a cork handle. I fit a poker tool over the bowl, and spiked a cork with it. It's great to just tap the cork on the side of a dish to clear. It's uncanny how the bowl takes almost no maintenance. After over a week, I swapped screens and dunked in iso, but it hardly needed it.

I agree! The ZX has become my daily driver. It sits right on my desk and is the only vape on my desk. I've settled on running it at 535-555 through a prophet for tasty yet substantial single hits. I use the top shelf in the bowl too. I was surprised how small the zbowl was and it wasn't easy for me to clear with one hand. Anyone else enjoying straight old school hash with the ZX? I'm finding the restricted airflow works really well! I have an old acrylic S&B grinder with pointy teeth that works amazingly well at grinding all types of soft hash. It comes out as millimetre bits, and a .1g load on vape cotton at 10c higher than flower is beautiful! I never really got into old school hash before, but I'm so glad I gave it try with the ZX. Such a nice change from the usual high.

I regularly use hash mixed on a bed of weed.
And the ZX is indeed brilliantly effective with hash!
Despite all the vapes I've tried since 2023, the ZX remains my favorite vape to date.

It works amazingly with old school hash and I mean the old old school afghan churs hash. I was a little concerned when I was using it cause I thought you would need more conduction, and I also thought the hash might melt through the screen but a a thin layer of weed or cotton or even rolling papers in my case makes it easy to clean and it hits like crazy.
Yeah, I’m surprised people are giving up one step away from the finish line. I feel bad for them for sure but I guess it makes sense with eggs at like $15 a carton. If the price of weed starts going up like this, that’s when we start the revolution.

Oh man, I've already spent way too much money on vapes lately. And that's despite firmly resolving to have better self-control this year and keep VAS in check.
On the other hand, I'm incredibly bad at keeping my own resolutions, especially when it comes to awesome vapes like the ones from Phase3 (I absolutely LOVE my ZX!).
Logical consequence: I snagged the last ZXXL.

EDIT to ask: I’m unsure regarding the coil: I have an Epitome kit from CC on the way, will that coil (armored 25mm) work with the ZXXL?

I was thinking about that too I asked Ryan about the one from vapvana or some other company and he said
the only thing that made me worried and Ryan didn’t say this to be clear but on the omega website it says
Which made me worried if I left it in the heater to cool over night the force of the brass contracting could crack the ceramic in the ZXXL over time. To be clear I ain’t no engineer or nothin so I don’t know for certain. Just something to think about. But if it works well for you (as in slides out easily when cold) I will probably pick one up because black on brass is sexy.
If you have the extra time do you mind sharing a little more about the screen positions in the ZXXL compared to your other products. I believe I remember you posting earlier about the ZXXL saying something like the first screen position is 10MM deep and then the second was 15MM and I believe the third was close to 20MM? In my mind that would basically make the first screen position to be around the second/third screen position in the ZX bowl. With the second position, probably being closer to the ZXL bowl (which I haven’t used) and the third would the largest you have offered so far. Basically, I’m saying all of this to ask with the screen positions in the ZXXL would I be able to microdose, normal dose and macrodose?
