I felt the same way about my solo stems...looked like a crack pipe! Ed's tnt wood stems helped that.

I still ended up with a Pax. And love it, but it will def produce more odor than the Solo. Imo, it will make the room smell, but if you keep the door shut and exhale out the window like you said...then it surely will not travel down the hall and down the stairs.

Plus after 20-30 minutes or so with the window open, it should be difficult to detect in the room.

Honestly, after a year of using the Solo and my previous experience with the Volcano...I was surprised by the odor of the Pax. It is still very manageable when compared to combustion...Doesn't stick to your clothes, etc. Plus, much faster to dissipate.

@VapeMan980 also,

In regards to the smell while smoking at home with people you don't want knowing, why not make a sploof? Take a water bottle (any bottle will work) cut a hole in the bottom of it, stuff it full with a shit ton of dryer sheets, yes the fabric softener sheets lol. Then when u smoke, exhale into the bottle, your vapor will come out the hole you made on the other end smelling like fresh clean laundry. I was skeptical at first but that shit is legit lol. some smell might still be there if you don't get all the vapor into the bottle when exhaling but that little bit is nothing in comparison to not using the contraption you just made lol. You can increase it's effects by exhaling through the sploof towards a window like you initially mentioned that way any little weed smell remaining goes out the window

Also, completely off topic from the above section and directed to the community, I've been paxin twice a day and use my arizer EQ at night when home. Been doing this for months now and recently have noticed that my tolerance has magically lowered itself drastically, for example, I was at work and my grinder had barely anything left so I tossed in whatever was there, threw my screen on top and paxed away. Got pretty decently lit. Went home and weighed it out of curiosity and it was only .04g lol. I also have been noticing a "heat" or irritation in my chest after vaping. Like I can feel warmth in my chest, say if I burp fit example. I'm assuming it's gotten irritated to the point where I cough like a motherfucka lol. Like a noob or I as if I'm combusting. I think I can feel some congestion starting to build up. Anyone know what's up with that? Vapers cough with slight congestion? Lol.

That's a good idea with the sploof. Thanks.

Anyway, if I were you I'd take a break. Paxing twice a day will take it's toll on your lungs bro.. Yes it's vape but if you are doing it every day it's going to add up. Take a week or two off.. Maybe a month and you should be fine.. You'll get really baked the next time you smoke too!

You'll love the sploof. Life saver lol

I am taking a few days off the pax. Haven't smoked today. I've used my arizer multiple times a day with no issue and with the pax I use maybe 0.1- 0.25 grams. Didn't think it would take a toll with that little bit. Specially since my day sessions are literally like less than 10 minutes long. I used to have ridiculous tolerance but these past couple weeks I've been getting ripped really really really easily. Like last night, I was pretty content with 0.1 grams in the arizer. And that was between me and my brother lol.

Yeah just take a break from the Pax.. You should be back to normal in no time..

I'm a bodybuilder so health is very important to me. I usually try to limit my smoking and drinking so it doesn't affect me too much health wise.. That's why I like vapes so much...

I will be ordering my Pax soon. As soon as I get it I'll post here with my thoughts.

Where is everyone on here from? What type of prices you guys get on herb?

I'm from PA... Around here a qrt usually goes for $70-$100 depending on the quality... an 8th would be half that.. Once of some good $250-$300, of some fire $325...

Same here man, me and my brother power lift so we're in the same boat which was another reason I stopped the pax temporarily. In Texas, I got a guy who hooks it up pretty good. Really good dank Shit for about the same. Went up to Colorado a few months ago and brought back some professionally grown shit. Definitely a huge difference than what I can get here. Ended up being about $110 per quarter because of the taxes and shit but definitely worth it imo given the quality difference and variety available. I'm big on variety, love having a bunch of shit to choose from

in related news, i wanted to share my thoughts about using a counterfeit and a real pax.

i cant believe the huge difference. one thing to tell by, so says ploom, is the metal bolt thats in the back. in the fake copies, they are hexagons. in the real ones, circular. and they are small. hard to tell the difference because the hex sides are tiny, but if you look at them side by side, you can see.

i got a fake and it sucked. such laggy heating up times. got an occassional good drag from it, but a ton of dry hump if you catch my drift. anyways, im pissed about it and we'll see what the store guys says. but i wanted to share and say that the original pax works way better. heats up 1000x faster. the mouthpiece is much sturdier as well. also, another difference is that some fakes are sold with no mouthpiece lubricant in the box. my fake didnt have any lubricant in the box. the real one did, and pax told me the same as well. when i contacted pax, the serial number of the fake was good--but--it was for a different color unit. lol where there is a will theres a way i suppose...

i still would have like the battery to go a bit longer. i can use it around 4 small sessions before it goes out. if they can figure out a way to get it to a 2 days of heavy use before a charge, that would be swell. as it is, one needs to plan their usage and plan for charge time and all.

happy paxing guys! (i'll be here to shame the store owner if he refuses a refund, or i'll be back to give him a prop for setting it straight. oh, hand wringing self righteous internet, dont fail me now!)

They really need to work on creating better batteries for electronics. The Solo's battery is supposedly better than the Paxs but to me it sucked... My cell phone, same thing, Ipod, same thing, my laptop, same thing..

The one thing I like about Apple products is at least the battery charges quickly...

Anyway, I'm glad you are enjoying the Pax... www.vapecritic.com/ has always said the Pax is the best portable... Obviously it's not perfect but if you want a vape to take with you on the go I don't think there's a better one out there. I can't wait to get mine.

I think the only reason the Solo is more popular is because of the price. If the Pax cost as little as the Solo did I don't think there would even be a comparison.

No disrespect to the Solo.. It is a great vape...

Can you shoot us a pix of the copy, with the hex. Would be helpful.

A lot of fakes around, bought a coupla MFLB, before realizing they were knockoffs-although they work fine, with higher cap batteries!

That is my fault. Last thing I would want to do is to try and make a "connect" on a public forum easily assailable by the cops. It won't happen again.

I'm just talking, meeting new people, trying to get tips on buying a vape...

I have a question about the temperature button. I've had the Pax for about a month an cleaned it several times already. I'm beginning to notice the temp button having more of a sticky feeling to it when I'm changing the temp. I mistakenly cleaned the button with isopropyl alcohol the first couple of cleanings. I did a web search about having a sticky button and found out I wasn't supposed to clean the button with ISO.

Now the button doesn't have a tactile feel to it when pressing down. I don't remember if the button is suppose to click when pressed down but it doesn't do it now. I'm still able to change the temp. Sometimes it takes several presses to change it to the next temp and sometimes it only takes one press. I've contacted Ploom support about it and here is what they suggested to clean the button.

Anytime I see a Pax come to my workbench for repair with this same trouble, I first start by cleaning the button area first especially if it seems sticky or takes awhile to change between settings. I'll start by taking a q-tip dipped in warm soapy water and use that to swab around the button as sticky resin residue can accumulate causing this trouble with the button. Next, I'd try the same technique with rubbing alcohol to see if this will help relieve this stubborn stickiness.

Should I try to clean the button with ISO again? I've tried the warm, soapy water method Ploom support mentioned but the button still feels kinda sticky when I press down on it. Is that how the button is supposed to be or should I file a warranty claim? Thanks.

As far as smell goes in the house there are a few tricks you can use a ultrasonic humidifier works wonders just pour in some febreze in there (just a little)

Use charcoal filters where ever you can on ac unit, windows etc they will remove odors and keep pollen out.and hook up a fan to the window to use as a exhaust.

anyways keep on paxing

@philthy , I would try a pipe cleaner q tip will be to big to fit make sure it's damp not wet dot on paper towel first .i use food grade lube so i seldom clean mine maybe once every few months if you can find some use on the button

Same here @pakalolo. Just making conversation about different pricing in different regions. No intention to make connections. That's our bad lol

@Wizsteve thanks for the advice.

I decided to stick with the Solo until I move out. I can't buy a $250 vape that smells more than the Solo while I'm trying to save up to move out of my parents house..That makes no sense.

But as soon as I get my own place which will hopefully be by the end of this year, I'll get the Pax..

I'm still going to post here though. I like learning about my future vape.. lol...

@shawn0223 It sounds like you had a great time in Colorado.. Is it a good place for a pothead to take a vacation? My brother and niece just got back from Cali.. My niece said getting a medical card is so easy it is ridiculous.

Is it the same in Colorado? I'd love to go to Cali but it's expensive.

I hope I'm not violating any rules. Just trying to get tips on buying a legal product in Colorado..

Heya philthy,

I recommend that you read my detailed how-to post on the subject here:

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/pax-vaporizer-by-ploom.6223/page-449#post-595753

It is a very detailed how-to guide to fixing the stuck/sticky temp button. I shared it because this issue seems to be far too common, and I worked out a fix for this exact issue that worked beautifully, fixed it 100%, and my temp button is like brand new.

Take your time and read it once through before beginning the process. You will find that it will resolve the issue you're having.

I can't believe Ploom recommends "soapy water", as that isn't going to do anything and will likely exacerbate the problem. Neither water, nor soap, are a good thing to get into a micro-electric mechanism.

Good luck brother!

I have a genuine Pax with a perfectly working temp light button. I do not hear or feel a "click" when pressing the button. It feels "soft" but not "sticky". I do not have to press the button more than once to change the temp setting.

Heya fogbank,

I also have a genuine Ploom Pax. There is no audible click, but in a "perfectly working" temp light button, there is a distinct tactile feel to it when it engages.

The actual plastic button itself should move freely (not to be read "loosely") and slightly to all sides when moved about.

If you're button feel is "soft" and it simply engages without any tactile feel to it, and/or the button doesn't have any play to it when moving it about, then you may also be part of the way to a sticky button. It happens very slowly over time, as the faint bit of resin builds up in there. Took mine 8 months to get to the point where I had to do something about it, and I clean the unit routinely and meticulously, although I stayed away from the button based on all the tales of getting IPA in the temp button, and tales of Ploom stating that it would indeed freeze the button.

Anyhow, once it started losing the tactile feel, it would still change the temp fine, it was just "soft". Once it became noticeably sticky to the point where there was no travel at all, nor any tactile feel to the button, it was time to do something about it or send it back in under warranty.

I'm a bit surprised the OP has only had it for a month and the button is getting gummy though.

I have a Pax that has never been used and you're right, there is a tactile feel to the temp button, but not a distinct click.

I'm not entirely surprised that his button is already feeling gummed up, because using sticky material that hasn't been dried out can do that to you.

Here is my pax vs indica review, I'm going to do it a little different because I still don't have my laptop (thanks geek squad!) This is a comparison review, not a side by side vape review as I vape.
I'm going to rate them by which is better, worse, or if they are the same. I do apologize, I will do a side by side when I get my laptop back.

Stealth: both are stealthy , the pax is stealthier hands down. PAX

Chamber: both hold roughly the same amount. TIE

Ease of use: Both are simple, however you don't have to pull the MP off the Indica to change temps. INDICA

Oven: the Indica clearly wins. Oven is perfectly heated. The pax, not so much. you have to mix your herb because of uneven heat throughout your session. INDICA

Heat up time: Pretty even at low temps, Indica has more temps, but the pax heats up a bit quicker. PAX

Durability: The Indica hands down again. You can drop it with no worries. The pax you will loose your oven lid, herb, and possibly the mouthpiece will shoot out. Also you run the risk of denting the metal casing. INDICA

Taste: taste is very close, almost too close to call. However the Indica has 2 lower settings than the pax which taste amazing, but the Indica taste better on the highest setting between the 2. INDICA

Look: Both are pretty sweet looking, but the pax looks like an Ipod and is slimmer, if the Indica was black it would be a tie. PAX

Convenience: They are both very convenient and compact. I gotta give it to the Indica because of ease of use. INDICA

Battery: They both last about the same, too close to call so it's a tie. TIE

Vapor: Both give great vapor production, but I think the Indica has an edge. INDICA

Price: PAX is $50 more, you get much more for your money with the Indica. INDICA

Customer service: No contest. INDICA

Manufacturer: taking advice and input from forum members to improve product. INDICA

Cleaning: No brainer, hands down. INDICA

Warranty: PAX has a 10 year warranty, Indica has a 1 year warranty. PAX

Replacement parts: The Indica give you 5 pipe cleaners, 5 screens, 3 spacers, 2 oven lids, and 2 picks and a carry pouch. The PAX comes with the unit 5 pipe cleaners, 5 alcohol wipes and MP lube (which is propylene glycol which is VERY inexpensive). INDICA

Overall enjoyment: That's a personal preference IMO. I love them both. TIE

Best bang for your buck: The Indica IMO. Less expensive, extra (often lost parts), sweet wooden box, More durable, very simple yet effective and efficient design. INDICA

Healthiest: Took both apart, both have oven and airpath completely sealed from internals. TIE

Weight: PAX is 97.5 grams Indica is 153.5 grams. PAX

Covering all the basis, lets tally it up.
TIES: 4
PAX: 5
INDICA: 12
This is a bit of an odd method of comparison, I know. But it's covering all the basis that consumers want to know. In my unbiased opinion, the INDICA is a much better unit all around, and the best bang for your hard earned buck. I still love them both, but the winner is the INDICA by a landslide if you look at the numbers IMO.

Thank you for reading my rather unorthodox review. I hope this was helpful to anyone debating between the two. Just because the PAX is more popular and stealthier doesn't mean there aren't other great portable out there to choose from.

Essentially the choice is up to you. This is my opinion, I have more than one of each so obviously I love them both. They all have their quarks, but there can only be one winner. IMO I believe the winner is the Indica.

I should also mention, there are no fake Indicas so you know you are getting a legit product from the manufacturer.
:peace:
