I have both...the pax 2 and Crafty. I really like and use them both. For me, I prefer the flavor and ease of use of the Crafty. It's had more warranty issues than the pax2 (no problems with mine though, knock wood). Pax2 has better battery life, has easier maintenance, and does not seem as delicate (a Crafty/Mighty complaint is breaking "fins" around the top cooling unit).

I think most fc'ers would agree to plan on owning and rotating multiple vapes. I think both of these are worth a place in your lineup.

Regarding mixing your load with some tobacco, I haven't seen that discussed on the Crafty thread, but an fc friend uses his pax2 that way and really enjoys it.

I have a Crafty and a Pax 2 and just haven't developed a love for the Pax 2. Although it wins for battery and size, mine can't touch the vapor or effect produced by the Crafty.

Compared to my Ascent, the draw resistance on the Pax 2 is quite high.. While I don't have any discomfort due to either of the mouthpeices, I can certainly imagine those elements combining to be an issue for some.

I am waiting to receive a vented lid/Pusher 2.0 and screen from NewVape so that I can change the draw resistance if I so choose.. pretty excited to start reducing those bowl sizes as well!

Ordered some end caps from @Ratchett on the advice of others (and battery holder for my Grasshopper pre-order and loading funnel to mitigate some of the postage) Postage costs were high to UK so did think long and hard but needed to smell proof a drawer. Was pleasantly surprised to find a loading funnel for the Grasshopper as an extra in the box. Top customer service. Thank you

Only suggestion, since you didn't mention it, is to try a full bowl, packed pretty tightly. In almost all situations, Pax2 works better when the material is snug in there, not swirling around. I guess we'd also be interested to know if there was any effect? Did your material change color?
And a big question, is there any ill taste? if so, stop. That definitely shouldn't be present.
It will be interesting to see what the manufacturer has to say, we'd love to hear about it.
Pax has a registration form on the website. You can open an online account and try to register the unit, see if it 'takes'. They'll probably be asking you to do that anyway.

i am really enjoying the pax2. very well designed with an excellent finish on the alum. i had a very light hand strain a few days ago. i realized the unit takes a lot of hand/ muscle coordination and force to turn on and change temp settings. prior to this i do recall thinking it took a lot to change the temp settings while using the device

1) It is hard to load. I see that Ratchet has a funnel and I will probably give that a try. Parchment paper works, but that is kindof a hassle to have to haul out with every loading. In a way, the tiny oven of the Indica was easier because it took less material, so a mis-pour was not as big of a deal. What else do you folks use for loading? It is a bit awkward since the oven is on the end, and as small as the unit is, that means a spill is a fair distance. I almost want to built a little table with a recessed area for the Pax to drop into to keep the oven level with the surface...

2) It is hard to empty. This is even worse. It is tempting to knock it into and ABV container, ashtray, or whatever, but the screen flies out half the time. Last night I was using it on a walk and getting bad draw resistance, so I tried to just crack the oven door a tiny bit but it flew off, the load dumped, and the screen fell out onto the ground. Luckily I was able to find it. Do the 3rd party screens stay in place any better?

3) It clogs easily. I feel like I need to clean it after every single use, which is a little tedious. It seems to be the main airway itself that clogs, not the mouthpiece. I'm not even using an ultra-fine grind, just a Mendo Mulcher, although maybe this coarser grind is part of the problem (larger shreds getting stuck?). Will a finer grind pack better and clog less, or will the dustier material just be pulled through all the more?

That said, when the thing is freshly cleaned, it works great! I hesitate to take it with me on the go, however, since I feel like I need to bring a loading surface, the pipe cleaners, a stirring tool, a tamper, a funnel, etc etc etc just to unload and load the thing.

Finer grind is better for Pax vapes for sure. I use a Magic Flight finishing grinder.

I haven't had issues with screens falling out, but I hear you about the difficult loading. I recently got a Crafty, and it's SO much easier to load. You can use a coarser grind with it, and it even comes with a "filling aid" which attaches to the vape and perfectly filters material into the bowl. AND it comes with a useful poking tool that attaches to the vape itself for convenient access, and a brush tool for emptying the bowl.

Also, I find Pax vapor to be hot on my throat. Crafty vapor is much cooler and smoother, while still getting me higher than the Pax 2 - and using less herb in the process.

You shouldn't have to clean after every use. I clean mine after 5-10 uses.

If you are vaping long sess. on temp 4, it can get very resinous and that seeps into and clogs the vapor path. That's getting close to combustion.
The placement of the screen is important. Notice that the screen is larger than the oven bottom. Clean all, then drop screen in loosely so it falls at an angle, both higher at the vapor path end, and higher along one long edge. (I tend to always reference the lighted side of the body for that.) Then use some straight blunt object to push on the center of the screen hard to wedge it tight while keeping the slight angles. (I have a SS dental tool that's about 3/16" dia. and rounded on its butt end.) Usually that will do it. Tap the Pax on it's side to check that screen doesn't fall out.

Screen falling out was a huge issue for me with original Pax and I never got it better than intermittantly good. Finally returned it after almost two years and they graciously let me upgrade to the Pax2.

btw, after maybe a little scraping, a magic eraser works great on the screen itself, with alcohol or water. Good in oven also, but a bit of a hassle.

Here are my thoughts and suggestions for your questions:

1) Loading - try using a salt spoon. They're available on eBay or your neighborhood vintage store. It works great and is an easy way to transfer small amounts to the oven without spilling.

2) Emptying - try using a poker. @Ratchett has some; I use the poker that comes with a Proto Pipe (they can be purchased separately). A poker will help you strip and loosen the stuff in your oven so it dumps right out. No problem!

3) Clogging - it sounds like your screen falling out is part of the problem. Mine has never been that loose, and in fact requires a "cake tester" to remove (I suggest you get one of these too; try Amazon). I find the best is the pax2 stock screen. You may want to pm @Ojan_at_PAX to discuss this and confirm your unit isn't a knockoff or that it is a warranty issue. I find the pax 2 can go through many sessions without needing a deep cleaning. Another thing...your screen should fit snugly and be seated on an angle so it doesn't block the air path.

This year I want to get another portable.
My first took too many batteries and very unpractical.
The one I use the most I love but wanted to see what I'm missing?
The PAX 1 required cleaning between sessions and taste like burnt pop corn!

The PAX 2 is suppose to be improved?

Pax1 didn't require cleanings between sessions. It did require cleaning every now & then, as do all vapes (a clean vape is a happy vape!) The biggest difference is that the Pax2 is easier to clean because you don't have the pop-up mouthpiece to clean & lube. As for taste, the "burnt popcorn" taste is likely when you just have the temp set to max. Knock the temp down a bit & you should be fine. When I had the Pax1 I used the medium setting. With Pax2 I use the #3 temp setting (of 4.) Nice, big clouds... but you do lose flavor after a hit or 2.

Bear in mind this is still a conduction vape. I do like it as additional to Mighty. Very nice fit and finish.

I'm sure people that would like to help will ask for more info before making suggestions. For example, intended use (home, or on the go, or both), is stealthiness important, price range, conduction v convection (a session vape v a one-and-done vape), etc. and do you want something that's available now, or do you mind waiting for a new release.

For me, and for now, I use a Crafty alternating with my pax 2 and recommend it. If you're interested in the Crafty, you should also consider the Mighty. Very detailed threads here. I'm sure others here will list their other faves.

If you don't mind waiting, the Zion and Grasshopper have great buzz. And I'm getting excited for the Firefly 2 too.

I suggest you also seek out the reviews online by Vape Critic, Vaporizer Wizard (Buzz Danklin), and Sneaky Pete. Much of their info is here, but the reviews are organized so it may help you.

I think the odor thing is very dependant on the particular situation you find yourself in. So it is good to have options to control odor. For those times when you simply can't smell like fresh roasted herb.

Check this product out. What do you guys think? I like the entire idea as a potentially important odor control. It is also waterproof made from ABS plastic (very strong).

I decided to order one even before I droped a dime on my PAX 2. No odor worries for me bros.
