I used a folded screen in my pax1 and started with that method in my pax2 until I got the pusher. I don't think it's a concern with either method. My confidence is high that pax uses materials that can withstand the heat from its oven.

If you're really concerned, I suggest you pm @Ojan_at_PAX and ask him. I'm sure he'll give you the straight info.

hey guys. does anybody know if the screen trick will make the plastic oven lid become too hot (and eventually release weird chemical stuff) or damage it?

The plastic parts are made from heat resistant, food-grade, BPA free plastics and can withstand temperatures much higher than PAX can reach. I've yet to see the mount (part above the oven) or the lid affected by an additional screen, but I don't recommend any modifications. The half-pack lid does the trick :)

Hey guys,

Until a week or two ago I was using my pax 2 quite heavily and found that it would suddenly shutoff during a session. I know the device has an autoshutoff when not in use, but what of when it's in motion, being pulled on, etc?

I turn it back on and resume my session and then within 3 or 4 min it shuts off again. I've had the pax pretty much upon its release and this is the first time I've encountered this issue, yet it is consistent. The battery is charged, and this happens even when I put it in any of the party modes.

I'm travelling internationally right now and finally had time to post about this, so I won't be able to do any troubleshooting until I get back in 6 days or so. Any thoughts?

Well I just purchased the Pax 2, my first portable vaporizer since I bought a Arizer Solo in 2011.

I did some research and purchased one locally from an authorized distributor listed on the ploom website.

After registering the device, I took it for a test drive, and am impressed with how she worked.

I will go back and read through this thread to see what i should know as an owner.

But yea, first impression is that this is a quality product.

Update, I received my replacement Pax2 in October. Unfortunately, this second unit is now having the exact same sticky power button issue, only faster than my original did. After issues with Pax1 and now two Pax2's, I'm not sure where to go next. I would just buy a Pax3, but the form factor is the same meaning the same problems are likely to occur again. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix my problem or other good brands/models worth trying out?

Did anybody ever find an EU re-seller for these black plastic end caps for PAX 2 like @Ratchett does in the States? Or any other cheap source for them, or alternative bag/tube container for smell?
Just checking!

Hi Pax Fans, i dont know if my question is allready answered because there are so many pages :)
I love my Pax its the best Vaporizer i ever used. But i wonder how safe it really is in terms of exploding batteries. How can the batterie stand this high temperature? The Batterie is direct next to the oven and the temperature is really hight there. Can this be a problem? Does someone heard of exploding pax devices?

What's up Paxamaniacs!

I've been using an Arizer Solo for a couple years now and I love it but I have always been curious about the Pax.

So I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a Pax2 for $159 on Cream City Vapes 420 sale. I also grabbed a Pax2 halfpack oven lid and a
3 pack of Pax2 screens for $22 from Puffit Up. Plus I picked up a pair of Pax2 smell proof caps from Delta 3D Studios for $6.

Do you have to do a burn off session before you use the Pax2 for the first time? If so what are the parameters?

If anyone can give me a tldr; synopsis of this thread with any tips or techniques that are important for me to know as a first time pax2 owner, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome oh saucey one!

Sound like you found some great deals! Congrats!!!

I find a medium grind works best and a light tamping. If using alone, I find you don't need to fill the oven more than about half way (or just a little more). Personally, for temperature I prefer to start on level 2 (2 petals), and step up to 3 at the end of a session. I prefer the flat mouthpiece. When using it, try pulling on it kind of like a cigar. There is some resistance, but don't fight it. I know you'll find your sweet spot.

There isn't much of a learning curve to this Vape. Have fun, enjoy, and let us know what you think!

Oh yeah...almost forgot.... Personally, I use a salt spoon to help fill the oven. It's an easy and clean way to transfer your material from your grinder or storage container to your oven. You can find them on eBay or at your local vintage shop.

Thanks for the heads up on that Cream City deal. The Pax2 has been my daily driver for over a year. Sure I wish it heated up a bit quicker & didn't smell so much but it's a solid vape. For 159 on 4/20 I couldn't turn another one down!

No problem, glad you were able grab that deal.

OK, so I very nearly ended up getting rid of my Pax2 after the draw restriction and the lack of vapor I thought this vapes not for me.

But, I decided to remove the dodgy screen and replace it with a cut up pipe screen. The dodgy pax screen I now use on top of the load to make the entire oven cook properly without having to stir mid way. Definite vapor production improvement and much easier to clean in the long haul i reckon  back on the Pax train for me toot toot :leaf::whoa:

I know this was posted 2015, and I found it by mistake. But I just tried this on my PAX 3 and it gave it many new interesting traits in resistance and vapor!
I'm open to swapping back and forth again a few times but this is worth trying if you have a large screen or some mesh lying around.
Also it works really well with the half pack lid, which wasn't around back then AFAIK.
Maybe I'll have to link to it in PAX 3 thread.
Thanks to OP

Vape virgin
Hey guys, I'm still a vape virgin. Combusting for a long time and found my way here via the Herb Grinders thread. Since I have been here, I couldn't help but become more and more intrigued by vaping, and I have to say, I am now totally convinced. Many, MANY YouTube videos later, I found myself a bit torn over the Pax2, the Arizer Air, and the G Pen Elite, and leaning towards the Pax2.

I was planning to read all 121 pages of this thread to confirm or refute my beliefs that this is the one for me, and I made it as far as page 7. I know this is the one! Especially now I know that there is a half-pack oven lid. So thanks to all who contributed haha! I'll have to wait til payday to make the buy, but now I am stoked!

It was a Pax (1) that got me on the path to fucking combustion. I had never used a vape and was unsure about getting a 'device'. Felt a bit like getting a crack pipe or some other heavy duty paraphernalia. I got over that on day one and have literally not looked back; four years now. The three times I've tried a joint since then have all been just awfully unpleasant taste-wise. Like fireplace ash.

Reflection on the whole thing then made the decision to stop smoking tobacco so much easier. Damn, even air tastes better now!

As a combuster, there are some effects you may miss at first. The conduction performance of the Pax is good to help satisfy the feel. Also, look to the lighter (though not weaker) effect from vaping, it's a bit of an 'aquired taste', but know that you'll be free from the the oxygen deprivation and lots of the tars, etc that you had previously "enjoyed"!

The last caution I will add is that VAS is real and it will get you eventually. They're like potato chips...
My Pax2 now gets loaned out sometimes, but rarely used. Still, I will not let it go, even while I enjoy a Mighty and a couple of Grasshoppers somewhat more.

Lots of folks love their Arizer, more the Solo, it seems. I think it would give you bigger clouds than the other two you're considering, though again, it's a 'device' to get familiar with. The Pax is very friendly and has a great warranty, great battery life. You could cross the G Pen off the list, imo.

For Pax, remember dry herb, finer grind and tight packing.

Fuck Combustion, by any means necessary. Welcome aboard!

Hey man thanks for the welcome, and the in-depth post! I'm really happy to have found this little corner of the internet now!

I have to say I had the same reservations about using a 'device' and the loss of the ritual aspect to rolling a J. I hit a Volcano a bunch of times while holidaying in Holland a few years ago, and while I thought it was a nice change, I wasn't keen on the aesthetics and bulkiness of the Volcano and couldn't see myself ever swapping combustion for that.

From that point on I kind of lost touch with the vape world, and didn't realise there were so many options out there, especially in the portable realm! I can't wait to get started now. Regarding the final 3, I have read a lot about how the previous G-Pens were a bit crap, and that the Elite was a big step up. I gotta be honest though, it was always behind the Arizer Air and Pax2 in my thoughts. Now I know what I want for sure :)

As for VAS, haha! I am already started to feel the icy fingers of GrAS creeping up my spine. I have no doubt the VAS will get me too :D

Pax 1 was my first too, won't sell it either!

The "ritual"side is real, just like VAS and GAS. I've found myself preferring some vapes because the offer the ability to incorporate a ritual, like stirring!

The Pax will make a great first vape, welcome aboard!

Thanks bud, I can't wait! A local Irish supplier, Namaste Vapes, have the Pax2 on sale for E189.95, which looks like a good price to me.

https://www.namastevaporizers.ie/collections/ploom/products/pax2vaporizer

They have a handy list of Pax2 accessories in the listing, and I was planning to pick up a screen set and half-pack oven lid...is there anything else I really should pick up? I could still end up going through these 121 pages and find all this out manually haha. But if there are essential add-ons I need to know about, feel free to fill me in!

I have a quick question for @Ojan_at_PAX...do you know if Namaste Vapes are an authorised retailer? Would the full warranty apply if they are not? Thanks!

I like the half pack lid. I tried the pusher and some other things, but use the lid the most.

You'll want some screens too for spacers. Normal large round screens. You "taco" them and use them for small loads, works great also.

I also really like @Ratchett 's SOG for the Pax. It's the best to use this with water.

The portable charger is nice too, but figure out how you'll use it first.
