2 Paces

Got mine on Saturday, wanted to spend some time with it before posting.

Really enjoying it. Love the feel of it, love the function of it. I was looking forward to the improvements, but I am digging this much more than I expected.

Most of my observations about the Pax 2 have already been posted by others, but one thing that I really like is the smoothness at the highest temp. On the original Pax I would end the oven with some hits at the highest setting to get the most out of my stash. But it was always a bit harsh to me, and I filtered through water whenever possible. With the Pax 2 the highest temp doesn't feel harsh to me at all and the taste is far better than the Pax was at high temp. Not sure how they did it, but the Pax 2 feels smoother & tastes better to me at 420 than the Pax did at 410

Count me among those that doesn't use the flared mouthpiece because it gets too hot. But I like the flat one, so no worries here.

I'm finding that a fine grind works very well for cloudy vapor, just like I preferred for the original Pax.

In short, as a daily Pax user for almost 3 years, I was very much looking forward to the Pax 2. It is exceeding my expectations.

I love this thing already. Only complaint is the charging cradle. It's way cool for table use, but no good on the go. I decided to go out for a beer and tried charging the pax in the backpack. Couldn't keep the pax connected to the cradle. Hopefully they offer some kind of solution so I don't have to resort to rubberbanding them together lol

Besides that A+. Huge improvements over the original.

Love you software engineers! Cracking the code.

The "Funkytown" for example, is the oven vibrating at a rate to create the right notes, played in the right order to get the melody. There is no speaker in the unit; I thought that was pretty creative.

If you have some ideas of others things it could do that would be fun, I'm happy to pass them on to the engineering team. I'm sure they would appreciate feedback from a PAX 2 enthusiast!

I wondered how you were getting sound out it when I couldn't see a piezo or anything that looked like a smartphone speaker! That really is creative and I would have always wondered if you hadn't told us. I'm impressed!

The only suggestion for EE's I have, and I'm not even sure if all the hardware is there to do it, would be a POV (Persistence Of Vision) clock that tells the time when waving the P2 like users are doing with this "Paint Mode" I keep hearing about, but haven't seen yet.

For those who haven't heard of this before, here's an example:

Anything POV with a 4 element LED array would take some VERY creative thinking to accomplish cool things though. But your engineers seem to rock pretty hard and have something like this going on already in their own imaginations. Vibrating ovens are a bit amazing to me now, so cool...

Found a cool hidden feature when playing with various modes: the petals went dark, and then would blink and blip right in line with my touches and movements. Different colors each time. Fun!

Uhm, this would be paint mode. :ko:

Getting this vaporizer dialed in has been fun tonight. I've forsaken my usual home vapes (EVO/HI) for the evening. I'm flipping zooted, of course, but I'm getting my groove. To boot, I'm not packing as much as I did with the original Pax. Having the same vapour output at two-petal power with about half the load relative to my first pax at medium temp. Fucking solid. (Made it pretty far along with Simon, too!)

What a brilliant device!

Wrapping the P2 with charging cradle works fine. Looks like I'll be able to charge on the go now. Not really as elegant as having something native on the cradle that will do the same thing. Guess it will be in the car charger version.

yeah my cat woke me up at 4ish this am, so I am sitting here paxin' and palying with the rotations, not getting anything new, just the same 3 modes over and over. I like the paint mode best I'd say, so far. Shaking only reveals the battery status no mater which way I try it. That's fine really, not having games on my pax, I would end up wasting too many loads letting them cook away while I stare at the LEDs lol

I have been using the raised mouthpiece and have gotten used to it. It does get warm quick, compared to the flat one, as has been restated over and over now. Redundency school of redundency school, school.
I am not sure which way I prefer yet, though.

Have to say I'm jealous of everyone with their new toys. I sold my pax 1 this weekend and am waiting for my local store to get all colors before I get my pax 2. I want to see the colors in person before I decide. It's so hard to wait!!! Tomorrow may be the day for me (today if I'm really lucky).

Party mode spoilers follow

When in party mode 1, for me at least, when I lay the pax horizontal the colors change much slower. Then speed up and go clockwise and counterclockwise when the touch sensor is activated.

In party mode 2 if you hold the pax horiztal above your head with the lights towards you they go crazy like if you were hitting it for 10 seconds

I have not found out anything more about partymode 3. Just that they go crazy when you wave it around and then rests on a very dark green. I was able to get to the 5th temp option (all blue) in this mode. If the unit needs to reheat when going out of temp mode, the resting color will be dark purple.

Partymode 4 is a lot like 1, but I can't check battery level, but you can get to the 5th temp option. If you lay the pax horizontal with the lights up or down they will start to slow down and eventually rotate around a color. Mine favors blueish purple with the lights up and yellowish Orange with the lights down

Then, of course, is Simon. Which I can't get past level 10 because I am stoooooooned. Glad I went with the sativa for this. I have not found funky town yet. Looks like I have the same unit as the link above me

Got my charcoal pax 2 this morning after USPS mungled up the delivery yesterday (no package notice left, post office had no clue where the package was, went in this morning and they found it with the notice attached via rubber band, nothing matched up to their computer system's description of where the package was supposed to be, etc hah).

Came with 3 petals of charge, took it for a quick dry run and I seem to in the funkytown club. The extras are cute but I never used them on my original Pax and doubt I'll care for them here.

Unfortunately, work stands between me and a usage session, so I will report back later, but I'm a little miffed that there aren't any instructions in the packaging save for the 4 steps embossed in the lid (i.e. 1. Remove Magnetic Lid, 2. Fill Oven, etc). I'm thinking of customers who aren't as savvy as we may be, who purchase it from word of mouth or from an in-store display, and then who receive the device without really much to go on. I'm curious, why is there an expectation on the user to figure out how to use, say, the cleaning kit as opposed to some printed documentation? My girlfriend's mom bought an original Pax based on her caregiver's suggestion but gave up using it because she didn't know how to properly clean it, or even use it for that matter...until I started dating her daughter and learned she had a Pax, after which I taught her what she was missing :) Again, not a problem for me but surprised no documentation is included in the Pax 2.

They do have an extensive online tutorial. Probably thought they could save money by just putting it all online

True that! I guess that's the general way things are going, many video games don't have manuals anymore, other gadgets refer you to online manuals as well, makes sense as you can update and modify the instructions as needed which can be very helpful. I guess the older generations just have to keep up with these trends ;)

love this vape!

Just a heads up....I originally thought mine was damaged. The bottom of the oven appeared to be dented and crooked. So I gently pushed the crooked part back down. Seemed fine. Then After using a pipe cleaner to clean air path the bottom of the oven started to push out. Well as it turns out what you're looking at is a screen that sits at the bottom of the oven, i'm sure this can be replaced pretty easily. The fact that it can come out will also make cleaning the entire oven all that much easier, especially those little slits that let the air in. I'm also curious now how well a standard screen would work, or even no screen with a coarse grind. I'll enjoy it as is for a while before I start tinkering✌️

Q.E.D.

Not everyone is aware how the Pax is designed. It's easy to see how someone with no previous experience with a Pax could miss the screen concept.

Pay no mind to those voices in my head
I had a chance to test drive the Pax 2 this afternoon, for two full sessions. I had a bit of a rocky start, but it didn't take me long to find the device's sweet spots. My initial observations (subject to change, natch)...

1. It works better with a full oven and a finer grind. My first bowl, medium grind, .14 g's, didn't work as well as the second when I packed .20 into the bowl and made sure it was fairly finely ground. That configuration netted me large vapor even at one petal, initially...less herb that's less ground required petal three before I got good hits. I was left with pretty dark brown ABV when I could no longer get any vapor from four petals...but I was also able to pull a couple large hits from each load through the E Nano, so like a lot of portables, the Pax 2 isn't quite extracting fully.

2. The taste is fine. For a conduction vape, it's pretty damned good. It doesn't degrade much in the back half, even at four petals (to my taste, anyway). Even if you don't use the cool-down feature, the Pax 2 isn't cooking the crap out of your weed the way other conductive vapes tend to (like the INH05, which I love, but don't leave it turned on!). The cool down feature itself works very well, and so does turning it off and restarting it an hour later...I finished my second session after a one hour interval, and the flavor was fine. So it is definitely a "session" vape, but you aren't completely locked into one session.

3. The draw is fine. It's average-restrictive for a vape...nothing uncomfortable. (I haven't tried the raised mouthpiece...the flat works very well.) The Pax does a nice thing...it tells you via LED when you draw too fast and overwhelm the heater. (I was doing this consistently at petal 4 until I slowed down my draw...if you do it correctly you can keep the lights green.) I find it about as restrictive as the FF, and way less than the Solo.

4. I don't know how many hits I took, but I only used half the battery. Pretty impressive....seemed like I got a lot of use in half a charge.

5. I have a Simon version. My wife was thrilled.

Overall, for a conduction vape, it's very impressive. It can't match the flavor of the FF, or convection in general, but that's an unfair comparison, and it really has surprisingly good flavor throughout a session. Now let's see how it holds up over time and heavy use...that's the real test, as we know all too well.

Here it is next to various other devices, and my Sigg bottle in matching turquoise.

How does the new Pax compare to that red Firefly?

How does the new Pax compare to that red Firefly?

Very apples and oranges. Pax is conduction, FF is convection...that's the biggest difference. Pax cooks in an oven, FF cooks with heated air. Pax is session-based, FF is on demand. Pax tastes pretty good for conduction...FF has the coolest, most natural flavor of any vape I've tried. Pax is more portable, lighter, and stealthier...the FF is heavier and draws more attention to itself out of the house. Different tools for different circumstances.

Been here since 2009
Some feel the FF has poorer battery / longevity issues. I had enough of that with my 3 MFLBs

It's real.
Thank you! I'm interested to try it even though it may not be needed.

Just nabbed one.
Nice, so did I! Let me know how you find yours when you get it. I won't be able to touch any of my new toys, including the Pax 2 itself, til Friday night and I'm excited!

Ok, so immediately after watching that video I pulled out the Pax and 18-14mm reducer and it works! it does make a solid seal if you hold it flat/steady, Awesome! I tried it with my D020D and my XapeXhale honeycomb hydrotube.

It milks up the glass instantly right when I start drawing, but then it gets whispier as the draw goes on, which made me think, the 'lip sensing' probably wouldn't be registering these draws, so its not ramping up the heater in response. (Also likely I am just overpowering the heater)

What is the best way to trick the lip sensing for use with glass? @scott_dunlap @Ojan_at_PAX

I tried it too, put mine in party mode as soon as the heat got to temp (green light) and just touch the power button area while holding it up against the 18mm male joint I was using, worked well for me too, but I can see posible limitations depending on your glass.
