OLD MATE (formerly Medgrind)

Cognitive Dissonance D 5 +
I looked and looked at the number 56, couldn't place it and then it hit me. The 1969 Draft Lottery, my number was 56. On the radio the night they called the numbers out from the floor of Congress, I mis-heard and thought my number was 156.
Hilarity ensued when I put my name in the pool, thinking I'd be passed by and I got the letter from my draft board, directing me to show up for my conscription physical. Yeah, I was #56....
"You've been selected by a Board composed of your friends and neighbors..."
.
OT - Those were some dark days my friend! Life changed from that point moving forward. The 119 lotto # draw turned out to be in the end a new beginning. Funny how that number just sticks. Now back to your normal VAS programming.

Question for those with the grinder. Are you happy with the "locking" mechanism between the middle and bottom layers?
It seems great; especially since it's more of an at-home grinder. Encountered any issues so far?
No issues at all. Locks home perfectly every time. The way this thing's been machined perfectly means it snicks together beautifully. The magnet is very strong.

They are very strong magnets, but it does not lock together perfectly every time, the magnets are so strong you can connect the bottom tray to the midsection without the pieces being aligned and still lifted off the table securely... Sometimes it can be a little tedious if you are trying to line up those parts, not that it's difficult to do so and if you are close the magnet will finish lining it up for you... Definitely much better than a different stainless steel grinder that had a similar attempt, this is a great execution!

can anyone who got theirs already help me out and let me know what kind of packaging it's supposed to come in???

I got the notification my grinder was out for delivery. I go to check the mail and I find a padded mailer like this:

IMG-0234.jpg

(this is the backside of the package as the frontside contains my address and other information)

marked from Australia, it's supposed to be the grinder. but I'm immediately confused because I pick up the package and its as flat as a paper and super lightweight?? there's clearly no heavy grinder inside

I go inside my house and take a closer look at the package. there are no signs of entry. no markings or anything that leads me to believe the package was opened by someone and the grinder stolen. everything is sealed as it should be. I open the package myself and I find the receipt for the grinder and the rest of the package is completely empty :mental::hmm:

was this mailer supposed to be attached to larger box with the grinder in it or is this the mailer the grinders come in?

did I get shipped a receipt for the grinder all the way from Australia and no grinder? someone help me figure this out lol

I feel like I'm shit out of luck and just wasted $100 honestly

Wow I'm really sorry about that, total bummer.

Mine came in that mailer but it was falling apart pretty bad and the padding was exposed and pretty powdery/disintegrated. Inside that mailer was another plastic bag type mailer that was sealed with an adhesive sticker/note from Ben with the grinder.

Mine came in an outer package like you have. Inside was a pad envelope wrapped around the grinder. There were instructions of some sort that taped the padded envelope shut. At least that is what I remember, I was like a 4 year old on Xmas morning when it came to opening it.

Not sure what the carrier situation is for you but maybe ask if there's some kind of unclaimed item process? Seems like it just busted out of the mailer because it's so beefy. Probably floating around a sorting facility.

Sorry dude this sucks, I'd be shocked if Ben forgot to include the actual grinder in the mailer, seems more likely someone stole it somehow?? ugh

SEARCH for the treasure...
Usually people steal entire packages, but I’ve had some small pointy objects that a thief had pushed them through similar SOFT packing envelopes, so at first I didn’t see the tiny hole, package empty. Best to always ship costly items in well sealed boxes. Very strange and unfortunate, but at least you know there was a delivery attempt. Seems like every week I’m battling with USPS, UPS, FedEx, Amazon. It’s wearing me down… the incompetence….. :(

Ok, lesson learned. I have a bunch of heavy duty boxes on order. I’ll be moving away from the padded mailer bags for international packages.

There is going to be a bit of a transition period until they arrive. In the meantime I will be taping the packages considerably to ensure they stay together.

If anyone has any problems like this please please contact me and I’ll fix it. I don’t want anyone thinking they are on their own with no support if any issues arise.

Thankyou everyone!

With a design like that & being a sold pound+ of stainless steel, no name required.
I don't even use a grinder, afraid the odor might alert staff to my cannabis use, but I want one, cheers!

Weirdly I don't get this at all. I can drop it on one handed and it aligns. Is very strong though. Not an easy one handed open!

One thing I have noticed is that the centre post got a little bit of resin from a very oily Sativa that has a tendency to creep about. It did gum it up a bit and made taking the lid on and off a bit of a pain. A quick clean and it's fine but I suspect some strains will necessitate a bit of a clean of that part at least. I will say it's had extremely heavy use and this is an insanely greasy cut.

I can too, but I have to look at it to see that it's aligned, if it's not aligned it will just connect together, but it will slot in if they are close enough, not usually an issue at all just wanted to say it's not like it's perfect lol

Old & In the Way
I find that so far, I'm giving the cutting teeth tons of repect, handling this grinder almost like a power tool because I believe it could do real damage in a hurry to some soft tissue.
But fun, too! Just walking past it I gotta give a spin. I could see a party game developing around this toy...
Truth or Dabs? Or something simple like a Candyland variant....hmmm.
There's already a game called Old Maid, how about Old Mate?
