Since we have the ability to basically build our own units using their internals and them being completely OK with that and actually encouraging us is something I really like and will take advantage of!!! My one question I did not get @maxvapor710 is will we be able to incorporate a larger screen if we decide to in a diy. I do like the size of the unit but at the same time the screen may be little too small for the complexity of the unit being able to use the full features without having to open your phone or tablet, just curious how to use the uptemp without using the app? If you even can
Good question, I decided to find out.
I found this screen in my parts bin, spent 20 minutes wiring it up and hooked it up to the board using only the available connectors. This required no particular knowledge about how the unit works or any hardware modifications to the board. The display driver was freely available on github.
This demo also nicely demonstrates the processing power of the microcontroller we are using in the new model. It also might demonstrate how easy it is to do stuff as a hobbyist that is much harder to put into a commercial product. I haven't done any longevity or reliability testing on this display, etc.
Regarding uptemp mode, if you aren't using the app widget you typically use the knob to select Uptemp Mode then click in on the knob when you are ready to start the cycle. You get audible warnings about when each temperature setpoint is reached: stable, start, stop.
