It depends entirely on the ability of the unit to dissipate heat to the environment.
For example if you were using it outside in 0F weather, it would be much more difficult to get the temperature hot enough to melt plastic or start a fire.
However if it's under a blanket with ambient temperature steadily rising(more of a closed system), it can get to dangerous levels (over time) even at a lower heat setting.

Thanks for the input. But to clarify, it only gets really hot (to the point of a fire hazard or even just uncomfortable to hold) at max?
I feel like as long as it can easily stand on its own as a desktop vape without burning the surface that its on, it shouldn't be too big of a problem.
