sorry to ask if it's been asked before but can i put hash/charis in an iolite?
Yeah you can put hash in the iolite, it will just gunk it up if you don't clean it out well.

I would maybe mix the hash with some herb so it doesn't just stick to the bottom of the chamber. The hash will be potent for a longer time than with herb, may need mixing up to get the most surface area to vaporize. Not a bad idea for when you can't be filing it up but want to keep something burning.

I agree... I imagine you mean put a bed of herb in the mouthpiece.. against the screenprior to the crumbled hash fill.
Good long session ahead~

I used to do that waaaay back when I had an Iolite. Worked well for kief, too, as long as you sandwiched it.

Yes, in fact it's part of my 'standard load' for Iolite. I use the .125 gram (1/8 gram) premeasured vials of ground bud I use in the MFLB. Half or a bit more goes in first, followed by .050 (sometimes a bit more, but not much over say 65?) with the rest of the bud on top. Then I put in the economizer which I've found conducts the heat into the hash area better.

You want to be sure to 'blot up' anything that get out of the hash before it gets to the screens or you're sunk. Early on I had it foul and pulg solid before the original bowl was done. Keep plenty of dry well ground bud above it.

I usually go two sessions per load, there's a lot of THC in there if you take it slow and easy as I like to do with Iolite. As Vito suggests, don't make any big plans for later, the taste and potency goes and goes and goes.

BTW, I also really like the (smaller of the two) VG mouthpieces with the Iolite. I chopped the stem part off (although you don't have too) and used a real short piece of 1/4 tube to link it. Makes for a very pleasant mouthpiece to 'sip on' in the garden. They're half a buck each:

OF

Edit: There's another practical side to this as well, here we can get fair to good bubble for $20/gram 'all day long'. Adding a dollar's worth to the load more than doubles the THC of the two dollars on average ($16 grams) of bud in there.

Not only is it a treat, but it makes economic sense as well.....how cool is that? OF

I love it OF.. and great price too, coming from VaporGenie!
I enjoy my Iolite only with the very base 1/4 inch piece most of the time, but love the idea of the VG mouthpiece.
I when in a Supermarket, like the Iolite in my shirt pocket and I use an extension for carefree sipping as I drive the cart!

I also ... full of vanity on occasion
If I will be in Public, will use one of my Ed's
Wooden Iolite stems~

Just ordered the VG stem, and will play!

Am I the only one that hard packs the Iolite? Most people on here seem to recommend a loose pack for the Iolite, but I find that I get the thickest vapor by packing the bowl tight. I don't pack it super hard, but I fill it and then pack it with a popsicle stick and repeat once or twice.

A hard pack still doesn't make the kind of clouds that I get from the Pax, but it is much thicker than a loose pack. I can get up 45 minutes of visible vapor (more if concentrates are used) that I can vape in one long session or multiple small sessions if I am on the go.

Anyone else find that the Iolite doesn't like to light if it is really cold. If I left it in the car for a few hours during the winter I would have to put it in my pocket or hold it in front of the car heater to get it to ignite. When the weather is warm I don't seem to have problem lighting it.

Sure, most if not all of it tried it.

I think most are like me in that the returns aren't there for the increased draw. I'm sure not trying to compete with Pax, quite the opposite really. I tend to leisurely sessions sipping at it not getting hammered. IMO other vapes do that much better.

I tend, like most vapes, to use this in what seems to me to be it's sweet spot. With Iolite I don't find that pushed hard.

Yes, of course the Butane inside is loosing pressure with cold. It always does. It's basically zero pressure close to freezing....which is why they mix (more expensive) Propane in with it for household use. In fact, in warmer places they put less in, but winter time in the Dakotas there's a lot more Propane than Butane.

So, sorry, but yes you have to get it warm to get it going. How about one of those chemical hand warmers? Pop it and the Iolite into a pocket for a bit?

Don't remember where I read it but years ago I was recommended holding the iolite between the two palms of your hand, letting body temperature bring up the temp of the butane. Especially where you wanted to use it right after filling it up.

A good half minute between the palms and it ignites very consistently :-)

edit: Now I remember where I read it...it's in the first post of this thread

Yeah, I guess it is different experience, but I like knowing that I can kick it up a notch. It makes it a little more versatile knowing that I don't have to pack it as often while out. The packing not only increases the density, but also lengthens the session time of a bowl. I can take it out fully packed and gassed to get a few good sessions through the night.

I don't condone vaping while driving (and of course I would never), but if one was to vape drive the Iolite would be a good choice. It doesn't leak much while heating you can leave it running. You don't need to actively heat it like the MFLB so you can turn it on and throw it like Frank Lapidus throws his walkie talkie. Also the thinner vape is "safer" for driving since a Pax hit is like a bong rip or something.

Putting in my pocket for a few minutes works. No need for the chemical hand warmers.

Thank the Universe......
that I never need to worry about that.
I am nice and warm here.
My Iolite will never see temps very far below 50º in person!

Has anyone ever managed to replace the refill valve on a WISPR? Mine was broken and Oglesby won't replace/repair or offer to help. E.g. send out the tiny piece of Brass. The valve was leaking like many others have reported (was filling with Venti) and with advice from Cust. Service I tried venting with a ballpoint pen. The valve snapped. I'm hoping I can buy a soldering iron, refillable lighter or something similar to harvest the part... So far I have tried a jet lighter but the valve is longer and of a different thread.
Maybe someone has managed to do this I was actually eyeing off Portasol products for the harvest as Oglesby also manufacture these.

I'll post on here if I do stumble across a substitute valve.
FYI my dealing with Oglesby have been terrible so far, my under warranty product is destined for the scrap head. I'd like to see the shit the unit with a few spare valves as a simple google illustrates this is common.

Sorry you're having problems, but I don't think it's realistic at all to expect them to ship you a loose valve. Why would they want to incur the liability? We live in a sue happy world, any lawyer worth his salt would advise against the risk I bet? There is an established policy for service, 'send it in', any deviation opens them up with no offsetting advantage.

It doesn't take much imagination to think of some pretty scary accidents that could happen if a couple grams of gas under pressure got loose at the wrong time due to a faulty installation of parts they provided.

Even aside from that, assuming you meant 'they ship the unil' not "the shit the uni", adding a few dollars to the cost of every unit 'just in case' is not the sort of expendable I'm willing to pay for.

Finding that valve might prove a chore since it's made in the UK, it's likely to be uncommon.

BTW, this probably belonged in the WISPR thread anyway? This thread is for a different product that doesn't seem to have this issue......

Good luck with it, but IMO you should reconsider sending it in?

Correct *I'd like to see the unit ship with a few spares. haha
Thanks OF for the reply your point is valid and I do agree, with most of that around blowing an arm off etc. :)
Unfortunately they won't accept it back as they say I voided the warranty (yes followed their advice). Which is why I'm going down this path. They also won't allow me to pay a fee for them to service the unit.
Ahh well I'll keep hunting maybe I will be able to help someone else in my situation if I find one. Or maybe someone has a broken unit with a working valve they want to sell.

can someone tell me why the manuel of the 2.0 says it needs 45sekunds to reach the 190C?! mine reaches the temperature already after around 20sekunds, than the orange light turns off and i can start vaping?!
am i doing something wrong?! i mean... normally a producer would say it takes 15sec to heat up when it actually takes 20... so i'm a bit confused here

They are being safe, rather than giving instructions that some can not follow.
It takes some units longer, because the lighters in each could have a slight variant in adjustment.
If they said 20 seconds some would be drawing before it was time.. so they aired to caution in the statement.

hmm yes, that makes sense to me, but i've heared people saying it takes 2or3minutes to heat up... my herbs are nearly burned after 3minutes, already :D definitely works fine. will post my full review of it here soon.

here is a little teaser. will write the full review this weekend.

"now, i also have an iolite 2.0, as well. haven't expected too much, but actually it's a cool device. not bigger than a box of zigarettes. works quite well, i think. best vaporizer for camping and shit. will take this with me on festivals, for sure. you just need a extra can of gas and that's it. full review on my blog soon. it's just not very robust, so if you're clumsy, you should better get another one. also it heats very fast! just needs 25sec. not 45 like written in the manual?!"

Yours heats up much faster than mine. I let mine heat up for several minutes before I hit it. If I don't let it run for around 4 minutes first, theres no vapor. I agree its a nice device.

when does the orange light turn off? can't imagine that this process takes several minutes. i wait untill it turns off and then i start inhaling. this happens after 25sec, already and the vapor quality is quite good so i don't think i start to early. do you have number 1 or also the 2.0? i think they improved the heating time a lot

Iolites Vary
They vary in gas fee, and in the placement i=of the "spark (slightly)
I am going to waste space and repost a video... a brief one, of the hottest Iolite I have ever had.
Ready in seconds, and never takes more than a click.
I have turned down cash offers that exceed it's original value to hang on to this noisy but very hard working puppy~

yeah, that's why I'm a bit confused, cause I'm not even sure if i use the right gas :D pretty hard to find the right one over here (germany) but seems like I've found one that works very well

Iolites tend to be very finicky about butane. I have been using 5x vector. I wait for a couple minutes after the orange light goes off to let the chamber and herb heat up. Since the iolite is conduction, I find that letting the bowl and herb heat up gives me better vapor that way.
