Former CIA Director Panetta calls Israel's pager attack on Lebanon terrorism.

As the former head of one of the most heinous terrorist groups in history, Leon knows State sponsored terrorism when he sees it.

Kinda hard to call it an October Surprise when you can see it coming from a mile away:shrug:

I feel bad for this lady. She gets viciously attacked from all sides and her own cowardly party refuses to stand up for her. All while the leader of her party facilitates the slaughter her extended family.

CNN's Fake Tapper and Dana Fash knowingly lied about Tlaib. Absolutely shameful.

The Anti Defamation League's Jonathon Greenblatt, one...engaged in literal defamation. And, two, is spending his time lying about the only Palestinian American in Congress. Instead of, I don't know, making a statement about the admitted Nazi who might become the governor of North Carolina.

Rising antisemitism is a real problem in this country. The ADL is making a mockery of it.

I think bigotry in general is on the rise in this country. And I don't think we're doing enough about it. Certainly states like Florida and Texas seem to be going out of their way to make it worse. Growing up in the 60s and 70s I never would have believed we would go back, but we appear to be doing exactly that. I would hope we can stop it while there's still time, but I don't see any kind of huge effort to try. And it will take a huge effort...

Yeah, growing up in the 90's and early 00's. The type of casual racism you can see on mainstream social media today would've gotten you ostracized from polite society. We're definitely backsliding.

Certainly states like Florida and Texas seem to be going out of their way to make it worse.

Sure. Conservative politicians and talking heads are making racism against black and brown people from Central/South America worse. But you're replying to a post about racism from 3 prominent Liberals. During the Obama years, post-9/11 Islamophobia seemed to be getting a little better. But recently, wooooo boy, we're back in 2002.

There's a term, "PeP", Progressive except for Palestine. But the more accurate phrase would be "Progressive except if the person is from a Muslim majority country...because those people are subhuman and don't deserve life the same way full humans do".

I am also very tired of hearing supposedly educated people saying it's ok to murder civilians who live in a country that "does terrorism". Bitch, you're American. Look in the fucking mirror.

When Barack Obama was president of the United States, he didn't want to make his presidency about race, so he rarely addressed the issue of race unless he was forced to. When he was forced to, I thought he was very effective, but I was really never part of the problem so I probably can't speak for people who were.

In the case of Kamala Harris, she will be the first woman, the first person of (any) Asian descent. and a black person, so her areas of intrinsic difference (from Americans view of themselves) don't necessarily pigeonhole her and I think she has more room to address these issues.
Personally, I think it is long past time for the perspective of a woman to be reflected in the White House and it would be a great opportunity if she would embrace her gender rather than try not to let it separate her from previous presidents.

We are at an odd spot in our own history where women's rights are being diminished rather than expanded and women are at risk of being turned back into property as if we were headed back to the beginnings of the American project out of some misdirected and corrupting nostalgia. We certainly can't allow that to happen anymore than we can allow America to lose its character as a melting pot of people from everywhere. That piece of the American character is integral to its very existence, and what makes this nation stand out to the world. If we were to break it, we would be giving away our greatest strength. Not only would it be the most foolish thing we could possibly do for our own stability and safety, but it is the exact thing that our enemies drool over. The idea that they could break our character by allying with individuals inside America who don't love America.

That is Russia's goal, that is China's goal. They can't beat us from the outside, but if they can corrupt our relationships with one another, the relationships between fellow Americans, they think they can beat us from the inside. Earlier in my lifetime, I might have thought that was impossible, or at least extremely unlikely. Looking at what we've been willing to do to ourselves over the last couple decades my confidence and my faith in Americans ability to anticipate and redirect to face the future is badly shaken. Greed and self interest seem to be back in charge. Of course they never left, they will always be some part of nearly any community, but they don't have to be in charge, they don't have to be the driving interest. That is a choice.

This image always comes to mind when I'm thinking about what is the method that our enemies use most powerfully against us in terms of breaking the nature of our democracy and this image reflects it well. We have a choice. We always have a choice.

Does America's enemies include Australia, because the guy in that image ain't Chinese.

Although, maybe from a certain point of view Murdoch's debasing of American politics might be blowback from that one time we did a coup in Australia.

Although not regarded as on the left of the Labor party, Whitlam was a maverick social democrat of principle, pride and propriety. He believed that a foreign power should not control his country’s resources and dictate its economic and foreign policies. He proposed to “buy back the farm”. In drafting the first Aboriginal lands rights legislation, his government raised the ghost of the greatest land grab in human history, Britain’s colonisation of Australia, and the question of who owned the island-continent’s vast natural wealth.

Buddy, that was your big mistake. If you think your country's resources don't exist for the pleasure of US corporations, you're gonna have a bad time. Iran learned that the hard way in the 50's. And that's worked out super well for the Middle East 👍

It was later revealed that the US attorney's office in Manhattan was looking into whether Adams' 2021 mayoral campaign team conspired with the government of Turkey to funnel illegal donations into the campaign. The New York Times reported on Monday that prosecutors subpoenaed the campaign and the mayor's office for information related to five other countries: Israel, China, Qatar, South Korea and Uzbekistan.

Mayor Adams funneling illegal donations from multiple foreign countries makes one of my favorite clips even funnier:

I don't like Adams as Mayor, because he's done a bad job. But as a comic figure, he's one of the GOATs.

Just fucking embarrassing.

Wait until the special election! It will be fully insane. Maybe it's time to give this guy a chance. You could do worse

“It’s so strange to me, because Harper is finally... her. She’s finally who she was always meant to be. Whether or not you can ultimately wrap your head around that, why would you care if somebody’s happy? Why is that threatening to you? If the trans community is a threat to you, I think it stems from not being confident or safe with yourself.”

The cruelty of how Tlaib has been treated over and over again is heartbreaking. Having the war criminal invited to speak at your country and sitting there for an hour while your coworkers trip over themselves to clap for genocide. It reminds me of watching the BLM protests and seeing protestors get brutalized - its injustice on injustice.

The dehumanization and racism against Arabs is by far the most permissible in this country. At least people think twice when they hear about Haitians and it becomes a news story. Same with Trumps Mexican comments (although the response should be much greater). Fascism is alive and well, alot to improve across the board. Its not lets think about why other countries are responding in violent ways, its they are inherently flawed people - we tried to give aid to Palestinians but they just build tunnels, they are animals. Lets not think about the material conditions of these people, concentration camp of Gaza, settler colonialism in West Bank or the apartheid that at min is occurring in those regions and arguably in Israel proper as well.

Also I am tired of cynical people labeling people who are against Israel's actions as antisemitic. Conflating Jewish people with Israel is extremely dangerous if you reckon with that countries actions. I have read nazi's use that exact argument (not that they care about the situation, just a vehicle for their hate). In fact I would argue that there is a large cross section of people on the left who might be falsely smeared as antisemitic yet are far more aware of the rise of nazis and fascist tendencies in this country and actively try to counter those movements. Much more so than the average liberal (history repeats itself?) or the right of course.

Look. If we need a jobs program for the dumbest 10% of every High School graduating class, I'm sympathetic. But we need to come up with something better than handing them guns and a license to murder anyone they choose without consequence

Lebanon isn't Gaza. It's an independent country with their own internet service. The people who live there get to live stream their own deaths.

This fucking country cries poverty every time it comes to spending a nickel to make our own citizens' lives a little better. But we have unlimited billions to drop bombs on this guy? This was yesterday, as the bombs were dropping:

There's no words anymore. The depravity of our government knows no bounds.

Goddamn Asheville got destroyed by the Hurricane. Awful stuff, Asheville is one of the coolest towns in the South.

Wild, because Asheville is far away from the coast and 2,000+ feet above sea level.
