My guess is that the balls are made of glass and not silica gel. They are really small and the conduction effect should be maximized with this size.

The facts are that the heat retained by the glass items make the conduction and the concentrates vape a pleasure.

A soon as i heard from the new crucible i poped it up, i did try with lots of glass stars, ceramic and glass disks from Ascent modding, crucible filled warmed up and expresso mode (teflon part/Tong screened), heating up the whole set up, open up and throw your stuff and the results are really astonishing. The final answer was that the ceramic disks have holes that glass flower and stars does not have to be caked by errl.

The vape is so intense and the extraction so total especially with concenrates mixed up with flowers, the stir is a simple task. You can also stage the extraction like throw your stuff on the top without stirring to have a first convection extraction, then stir to add conduction etc..

Once the vape is gone, you throw the whole setup on a safe area to let it cool, brush a bit and reload!

HA is a beast.

Yeah, if they are glass or ceramic they are probably fine and those who are using the concentrate kit seem quite happy. It would be nice for there to be more info about them, though. I haven't really been able to find out much.

Herbalaire answer: The concentrate kit is filled with medical grade glass beads not silica and these are completely safe to use within the herbalAire. They are supposed to be contained within the crucible with the 2 screens on top holding them in place. The idea is to have the concentrate melt down into the glass beads creating more surface area for the concentrate to be vaporized. When inhaling through the unit the glass beads will create more turbulence rattling around inside the crucible as well, helping with the vaporization process. Use the unit at it's maximum temperature when using concentrates and let the sample sit inside the unit for a full minute before taking your first inhale.

So they do recommend not to blend flower and glass but to keep it separate by the screen and/or dedicated to concentrates.

They Are Dedicated Concentrate accessories and not for buds so ...

Man would it ever be a major pain in the butt to have to separate all those little glass beads from your AVB after every time you used it, pretty much common sense would tell ya it wouldn't work very well.

And Just why in the world would you ever even consider using herb in a concentrate dedicated and designed crucible in the first place when they sell crucibles for buds(where you can actually add concentrates on your buds if you want) ?

I do know someone who uses the concentrate cruc with flower -- though triple screen, not glass beads -- and likes it a lot. Their technique is grind the flower and compress it down in the cruc.

Haven't been in HA thread for a while (dankrupt! but got new buds), re: HA vapor thickness, yeah the HA won't give the best vapor density at all, as I believe to achieve its other goals like whole nug ability, no-stir, even and thorough extraction, it wasn't designed to do as such. HA operates off diffused air, with the micro jets in the bottom of the chamber, so this means less "raw power" I guess. Also it uses insulation and radiation, keeping the air path warmed while convective hot air is pulled through generating the vapor. To me this means you can use the vape with a lower effective temperature. So HA's 400 will vape more thoroughly and darker than other vapes' higher temperatures. Though, perhaps it would be nice for it to go a few degrees higher (410, 420... teflon's max temp is 500, so that would still be well under).

So yeah, though that's not to say thick vapor can't be achieved in the HA. If thickness is wanted, one good way is grinding of course. Also, just simply using a lot more weed. Vapor density is mostly a function of amount used with the HA. I haven't done it personally, but I bet if I loaded a gram or two ground up into the chamber, it would give very thick vapor.

Oh also I saw someone cleaned their ceramic discs with ISO but then tasted some of the ISO when using later. Sorry, should have mentioned what I do after cleaning. I put the discs in a hot HA and then blow through the air hole, giving the discs a hot air bath after the ISO. I find that this gets it all evaporated and clean.

You can also vape wax with the regular crucible. I put chunks of flower into the bottom and press it down so it plugs it up and I can't see through the bottom of the crucible, then I put the concentrate on top of that. I pre-heat to 400 and then drop it in when it's ready making sure to inhale slowly at first giving the wax time to melt down. So far I've tried it with shatter and live resin and it's worked perfectly, no leaks. The only thing to watch out for is wax jumping out of the crucible when you drop it in. It usually takes around 20 minutes and 6 of the 10 times I've tried it I've taken naps not too long afterwards, totally knocks me out. It's pretty tasty though.

I've been wondering about the glass bead concentrate kits, I have the old 3 screen ones. I'm thinking of grabbing them so I can compare them just for the hell of it, get myself an early christmas present.

Is there a European shop who stock some concentrates crucibles?

I was unable to find some...except on HA website..

I have been using the stock pump with the herbal air elite and I attached the black mouthpiece in a little tubing to the pump to make it run quieter it does restrict the airflow I was wondering if anyone has used it in this configuration

Or I have hooked up our nebulizer as an air pump fills bags in twenty seconds!:o:o

I've been having a great time with my Herbalaire. I use a water tool and use a second screen in the crucible to hold the flower in place. I take the screen out of the mouthpiece too for better airflow. No need for a grind, after it's been run through a couple of times I might break it up a little bit with my fingers if I'm wanting to extract every last bit although it extracts thoroughly regardless. It works at a huge range of temperature depending on what I'm feeling up for.

I take 1 or 2 long draws from a small amount and can be set for hours AND I'll still get a couple more good sessions. It's still got more left in it after that too, but more of that CBD slowing down type high. That's why I keep a second jar for partially vaped flowers that I can whip out if I need pain relief, sleep or relaxation.

It's so easy to use, really easy to get carried away too . Also, I just gather up the honey that gathers in the mouthpiece by scraping it out with a flat-head screwdriver. Put that on a bed of flowers or throw in some extra screens too.

Now I'm going to buy a TonG and hopefully my already cut down backup crucible will fit in. I'm also going to look for a bubbler to use rather than the water tool. The water tool works great, but I worry about accidentally tipping the water inside the Herbalaire if me or somebody else is clumsy.

The D020-D looks pretty cool, I was wondering if anybody would know if the herbalaire feel safe enough perched upon that glass with the TonG?

Great price on a HA in the classified in the states free postage! I'd pick it up as a spare but postage to Australia and conversion rate the deal dwindles a bit.

I actually bought my first vape pen for concentrates just to vape the honey from the ha. Even recently I've recently started covering flower with a little bit of wax to vape with, I can't believe I never thought to do that with the honey. Thanks dude.

You're welcome! How does the D020-D go with the HA?

I've got the TonG and water tool working a treat, but I think that a bubbler would make it that little bit more comfortable.

D-020-D would work well with the dewar joint, the one thing is that the HA's base is large so you will probably have to turn your head while hitting it (not necessarily a bad thing since you might this do anyway to look at the hit), because the larger diameter base will be in your way otherwise. Can solve this by getting a sidecar piece.

Thanks for the advice 421! I'll have a look at some sidecar pieces too.

Have you been trying any new tricks with your Herbalaire? I've taken a lot of the advice you've contributed on this thread, many thanks!

Before I grind my herb I weigh it out, load it into the crucible, turn on my HA at the lowest setting and place my mouth over the air inlet hole and blow air through for like 30 seconds.

When I take the herb out after that it is nice and crispy and grinds into the finest dust you will ever see.
So much surface area will give you huge clouds, all the time.

Does anyone else do that? Am I doing bad to my herb?

I mean this is kind of like an accelerated version of the often recommended drying your herb out so it grinds better and is easier to use in some vapes. Of course that's a not a necessary thing for the HA.

Mainly been keeping it simple with the HA lately, though because I'm on a conservation kick I'm grinding my ganj and using very small amounts! In this mode I call the HA my activated air maker :) Cause you really won't see clouds much but you can tell the air is getting flavored, and then afterwards I get real stoned. I was thinking that this would be a great introduction to vaping for newbies cause it's extremely easy to intake the hits, but they still are effective, or also would be great for people with asthma or other breathing difficulties. Gotta make sure to keep the load secured to make sure it really gets vaped imo, I do this with the good ol' ceramic disc sandwich and a e-nano basket screen spacer.

I also use a very short vapor path by just using this OGB glass carb adapter as my whole mouthpiece. It's like a giant flowermate kind of this way. Using the shorter vape path I theorize is making my sessions more quick, because I have to inhale less air total this way and can get my hits started faster. It's nice for using smaller amounts because then I feel like the session goes quicker, and I get medicated faster if that makes sense. I can also taste more with the shorter path.

Simplicity is important to me, too. I commented recently in another thread (about preferred length of vapor/air path) on using my HA for 14 months, happy with just an extension in the standard MP. Last month, decided to try without the extension and like it better...the path couldn't get any shorter.

Surprisingly, MPs are going a few days further before needing to be cleaned. I vape about 4-6 times/day so that's quite a bit more maintenance-free use. :)

Wondering if you use the crucible or not and what temp to vape @.

How many bags?

 I like it! I'm all for simplicity too. I find the air straight from the mouthpiece too hot for me so I use a water tool. I lose a little bit of flavour and vapor but it saves me from the scratchy throat feeling that I sometimes get. Do you ever worry about the ground up herb clogging up the air jets? That's my main reasoning for not grinding.

I use the crucible, and I find it works much better if you can get a second screen to hold the herb in place as 421 also recommends.

For me, I find somewhere between 175C - 185C to be the sweet spot, but this one is often down to personal preference. However, I feel like these temps are good starting points and you can always adjust from there.

I don't use bags, but I find that the amount to vape will come down to your own preference, tolerance and the quality of your buds. Drier buds seem to vape a little better, as well as hairy and trichome covered buds. Personally, I can be pretty well sorted after 1-2 large draws and when I used to do bags, 1 bag would be able to sort me out too. My suggestion is to start with 1/2 - 1 bag, wait 10 minutes because the vape can creep up a little slower sometimes and then feel what you want to do from there. I know I've made the mistake of hitting the vape too soon and ending up pretty out of it.

With my AVB, I mix it in with coconut oil and use it as a lotion or salve. I mix in however much oil I want depending on how potent I want the lotion. Put it in the oven at 100C for a few hours or so, then strain out the plant matter and then into the freezer (I read that this step can help extract the last of the THC). Some people just mix there AVB into a smoothie or onto some peanut butter and eat it raw like that. I get seriously ill when I consume the AVB though so I avoid that now and am happy using it as a lotion. Hope this helps a little bit! :)

Do you ever worry about the ground up herb clogging up the air jets?

I've ran my original HA as my daily driver for almost 8 yrs now, and have not even seen a hint of the jets ever clogging. I've used it with flower, hashes, and oils (alone and a combo of the three), with and without the crucible, and never a problem.

I believe the HA works best without grinding, when you jam/compress your load as much as possible, forcing the air flow through the 'block' of herb that you create. There is really no need to grind, but if you do, no problem, it still gives the best, and most thorough extraction of any vape out there.

Nothing slows this thing down.

Found a couple of vids on youtube, but how many of you HA owners here use the HA EXCLUSIVELY with a PV GonG adapter? This is pretty much the only way i'd be interested in using the HA, and curious if there are any HA owners here with a PV GonG that could take a video? Just curious on efficiency with the gong, and vapour production, and how quickly it can cache the bowl. Just looking to compare to my Solo+gong.

This is great information, thank you! I jammed the flower down in the crucible with a ceramic screen on top and it worked great! I only need a smallish amount, ~0.1g to make a nice little hockey puck as I've seen recommended by 421 and others in this thread. I let the Herbalaire heat up for longer than the ready light indicates and that seems to help create good vapor too.
