Herb Grinders

How much herb have you been grinding through it ?

It looks like it's coated rather than anodized.

Yep, it's "electrocoating"... I don't know what that means though.

And it's had so little herb through it, cos I got the OMD at about the same time.

The best indication I can give on amount of herb is that my OMD gets a thorough clean every 2 weeks. That Grinderoo posted above has needed one clean in the 7 months that I've had it.

Next Gen Flower Mill vs BCG (SS version maybe): which one to choose and why?
In terms of the end result, is there much difference between the two?

It seems that the aluminum dust problem has been solved or greatly reduced with the second version of the Flower Mill. Can anyone confirm this?

They're completely different, the mill is not a traditional grinder at all, personally I couldn't really get on with it, I just much prefer BCG style classic grinder, it is like the ideal of those... I also wouldn't trust FM anymore

I have a redesigned FM and use it regularly. I feel like the changes have been good. I also have two of the og FMs that I don't use at all. Four BCGs small and large in both alu and ss. Both ss BCGs are used daily. Snacks is right - they are quite different. Theres nothing the BCG can't handle, but the FM can have some issues with moist and or sticky herb.

I need some feedback. I want a good grinder. I’m getting up in years, and my hands have trouble getting a good grip on my POTV grinder. I’m torn between the Brillian Cut and the Old Mate. Most people say the BCG is the better grinder, but the Old Mate looks easier to grip, and I think even has grips available. Should I do the BCG or Olde Mate?

I have an aluminum BCG and an Old Mate. The BCG hasn’t been used since I got the Old Mate. I also have hand grip issues.

Whoa! I didn't notice that BCG has a 6-8 shipping backlog

"Shipping Disclaimer: Due to high demand, aluminum and stainless steel Brilliant Cut Grinders will be shipped approximately 6-8 weeks from the date of purchase."

It depends what you want exactly based on what I said about more control with BCG, more versatility, but the OMD is pretty fantastic, specifically for the ease of turning once it gets going it grinds for you! Still plenty versatile and a great price for SS, phenomenal quality

Yep that is for new units that are made to order, factory second ship much faster since they are already made

The OMD would be my pick. It's got weight, inertia, lid shape, and that smooth bearing working for it. If you're super picky about grind maybe it's not versatile enough. But I find myself being less picky, given it's ease of use.

Considering the best one I have at the moment is one from POTV that came included with something, And so long as I can work the grinder, what comes out seems to be working for me.

The large BCG is larger diameter than the OMD. More leverage. The grippy addition for OMD probably does help, for same reason. I had the BCG first, bought it specifically because I was having a hand issue.
The OMD is a wonder, being SS and sleek with the bearing. But if I were buying my first high quality one, it would be the BCG large, aluminum, with coarse grind plate. (Alminum is not a deal breaker for me.) For times I want a finer grind, I grind upside down for a couple of turns first. OMD does not have a coarse option. Grinding coarse is easier on the hands, and quicker than using a plate with smaller holes.

The OMD weighs a full pound, as I recall.

The lid on the BCG lifts off (use a clamshell action) easier, a reasonable magnet, though you can also order OMD with no lid magnet.
If you can find a BCG second in a color scheme you like (large/coarse) it would be a good score. Usually, you can't even find any "defect" on them.

Yeah I rely on my small BCG much more lately so it is a different comparison when you are talking about the large, definitely easy to grip in that way, although the small can be easier in another sense I suppose... All depends on the perspective I guess as I've seen cases of people preferring either one for the same reasons lol medium plate is also very versatile I find it pretty coarse if I don't grind upside down first and the more you grind upside down the finer it will be...

I've been thinking about getting a Large BCG in SS. Bit of a treat for myself, but I also want a 3 piece grinder that'll last forever.

Previously I've had the 4 piece Space Case for 10 years, I cant imagine having a grinder smaller than that. And I also use a Cannabis Hardware 3 inch fine band grinder.

Does anyone have any pictures of inside the matte SS version? I cannot find any online, I have even been speaking to BCG via email

The reason I am asking is because someone on this website said the matte version 'gunks up' much quicker than polished which isnt on offer right now.

So if someone can post pics or maybe confirm if the level of finish is the same inside as say the old mate? The only making that comparison because OMD actually have good interior pics and is SS. I would buy a OMD but im too paranoid about bearings being near my weed

I have both, I see zero difference between buildup and/or cleaning interval. They are the same.

ETA: yes, well technically I have all 3 (bcg matte and polished, and OMD). I keep my buds very sticky, all of them gunk up (and alu BCG) in near identical time; none has any major advantage on material “slipperyness” or ability to not gunk, at least that I can derive.

When you say both do you mean SS Polished and SS Matte?

Edit: if anyone has a pic of the inside of a matte id really appreciate it
