Herb Grinders

For me the BCG is the best so far.
I have been testing the Herb Ripper, its nice but in the end the StainlessSteel is just too heavy for me in a full size grinder to pack around. And if it’s in a pack I’m always afraid it will damage other stuff since it’s so tough haha.
the BCG just has the right design, still haven’t cleaned any of my plates. Herb ripper is the same as most other grinders just in SS. Gets gummed up fairly quick.

I have both standard and XL size Herb Rippers. The standard is almost too small for my hands. The XL is about perfect but yes you know its made of stainless steel (heavy). Recently ordered a large BCG so I will have large and small of the herb ripper and BCG.
As a comparison I'm still undecided but lean towards the BCG, I have not needed to clean it yet.
The herb rippers all include the ball bearing, not sure its worth it though as it beats your ground herb into shake, not a fan of shake outside smokin a hitter rod.
My only negative about the BCG is its just a 3 piece, no kief catcher but is it really better to separate the kief instead of just vaping it with the herb?

I can't tell the difference between herb that's gone through a 3- or 4-piece grinder. I've had 4-pieces in the past and would use the kief to "enhance" smaller loads as my stash ran low, but I've switched to a 3-piece since moving to a recreational state and I like that there's less to fiddle with. Have never been a fan of putting coins etc in the herb catch because it adds too much plant material - I'd rather have less kief that's more pure.

Yeah I was a huge 4 piece keif collector guy... until I got the BCG.
still would maybe like a 4 piece, but I’m getting use to the 3 piece ways now.
I hardly used my keif anyways, I would just keep saving it up for a year or more.

you just can’t beat the smoothness of the grind action on the BCG. Every time I use it, I think damn this thing is nice, haha.

Yeah I took that section out of my old SCS 4piece long ago, then did the same with my SLX before I started buying 3pieces only.

BCG is so amazing how it never locks up with those side teeth, still never cleaned my first one in the year and a half I've had it!

I will say this though, I am pretty blown away with how smooth and easy it is to turn the Flower Mill, while it also grinds quicker it seems so even less time turning...

@Shit Snacks - I'm looking forward to your thoughts and comparisons. I'm planning on getting a nice grinder next 4/20. Large BCG is the front runner for now but there are so many great options.
in this predicament now too don't know which grinder to get for my end all be all... can't decide between the BCG, herb ripper, or the best of both worlds The Grinder by united machining... currently have a small 4pc SCS

Yeah, a three-piece is the way to go.
Keeping the keif with the herb is the only way to go.

It looks like it's a small company based in Greece, an artisan manufacturer.
Yes... they have been trying to get this done for 4 years now, and I am pleased to hear they finally are a reality!
What is QB-GON?

Not much info yet but Iaso is making a 5" Stainless Steel grinder with plans to release mid summer. It will be somewhere around $300 USD but totally depends on how many they produce. The design will be "industrial" with a crank or something since it's so large. I recommended they drop by FC and maybe do a preorder to gauge demand. It's sounds very interesting, that's for sure.

I like their standard sized grinder except for the labyrinth seal that shrinks the internal area to correct a problem I've never had.

Anything stainless does peak my interest. I don't remember who had pre-ordered the Lift Innovations stainless steel grinder but I'm curious how it turned out. It sounds really easy to spin if their design panned out. Also that mirror finish looks amazing!

I'm excited for my United Machining grinder that should be shipping sometime this month. Itll be a nice comparison with my OG Herb Ripper XL's and standard size BCG. The large BCG is the only other grinder available that's really peaking my interest but I'll be waiting until a sale at the very least.

Fuck I did not need to know about this, I'm not even going to look up the mirror finish because it would be too tempting!

Yeah I wonder what his ETA is for the UM, been posting little updates on IG but hard to tell timeline... I wish it was slick smooth and shiny and not matte, but I trust his choice in finish?

Also figured I'd wait until 420 to get the BCG large, but that was before I pre-ordered UM and then got the FM so may just hold off because I really don't think I need it? I mean I didn't need any of these, but you know what I really mean!

The thing is, I still do not have a BCG coarse plate grinder, and I really like hematite but feel like I also need one in Amber to match my Amethyst and Aquamarine...

Oh Lord if BCG comes out with a polished steel version someday...??! :uhoh::drool:

Hmmm...I hadn't seen this one before. However, my initial "knee-jerk" reaction is that looks WAY too complicated. The term "overdesigned" comes to mind. For some hard-to-explain reason I'm turned off just by the look of it.

It's like a Rube Goldberg machine that ends up with some ground herb as a bonus after you do all the things.

(zombie) Woof.
Bah, old skewI humbuggery. I do not agree and as I've said before, I love using a fine screen kief catcher with my LIFT Innovations "grinder". This is not 1980. The weed these days (here anyway) is so naturally caked with kief, what difference is a few ity-bity ol (CHOICE) resin glands missing from a grind (chop actually ) really going to make per hit/session...? Sometimes, if I don't feel where I want to be, you know what I do...? I take another hit.

What can I say, I like doing a vapcap completely packed with grinder kief every now and then... sooooo many thick hits! Sometimes a heavy, albeit rather nondescript buzz is exactly what I want, and it's (almost) always there waiting. (actually doing one as I type this mess!)

I liken it to tossing pennies in a jar when you get home from work, you (I) don't notice them missing, but over time they add up to be something significant.

Edit: and don't forget the now possible quick easy and potent repurposing factor.... sautéed trichome cannahh buttahh! mmmmmmmm! Put a little of that on your toast in the morning to start the day out right... Breakfast of Champions!

which is fast approaching:

Using the old 4:20 cap today and.... Oh SHIT! Rocky doesn't have a blanket on him! Gotta run!!!

I have used salt in my grinders as an abrasive with success. I would use course salt, pour about a table spoon or two in and then flip the grinder upside down and grind away. Use course enough salt so it doesn't all pour through right away. I imagine it would work well with a hemp grinder also. In my metal grinders I use course salt, wet with iso for really tough gunk. Rinse well with hot water and you're good.

I remember @FlowerMillJohn mentioning they moved manufacturing to China, but couldn't find the post (so correct me if I'm wrong John).

Ah yes, well, let me make it clear for anyone wondering!

Flower Mill is currently made in China, yes, but we do all assembly, laser engraving, and packaging in Phoenix, Arizona. It was a very hard decision for us to make since we were proud of the fact that they were made on our CNC in our shop in Arizona, but it was a necessary step to making the Mill more accessible to people both physically and financially. We are working towards earning the ability to manufacture locally as the Mill more and more people discover the Mill, which will allow us to expand. All Crowns and a handful of the first Flower Mill branded Mills were made in USA!

What I will also say is, we were diligent in finding great shops and craftsman to work with. Without question, the quality of the Flower Mill went up, and we personally QC each part.

Thanks for the question, hope that helps!

I've been using the same £5 dodgy ebay grinder for about 8 years. It would seem they have inflated to 6.50.

Surprisingly, the free 4-piece grinder that used to (might still) come with some VaporNation orders is pretty good, if you turn it upside down for a slightly longer grind. The grind can be flakey, if you keep it upright, or pretty unifirm and well ground up, if you turn it upside down for another 15 seconds of twisting.

I hear ya. I had one that looked exactly like that for years before I upgraded.

Of course, any grinder (including a pair of scissors, or just one's fingers) will break your herb up...but I never realized what I was missing until I acquired a proper higher-end grinder. Now I could never go back by choice. These days I prefer different grinders for different vaporizers, and I get annoyed if I don't have the right grind for a specific vape.
