Herb Grinders

Just used my BCG for the first time. OH MY! My 4 piece SCS is now dead to me!
So smooth grinding my nugget right from the get go with no effort needed at all.

Can’t recommend this well machined tool enough!
I bought my 21 year old a Battery powered unit with bad reviews?

Well, isn’t it funny how you start to notice things more once they are on your mind? Baader-Meinhof And all that.

Anyway, was at a friend’s last night and he had a SCS - had never noticed it before, but the logo caught my eye from about twenty feet away. Very impressive grind, nice and fluffy, big but not chunky and worked both for his vapouriser (Solo) and in a joint.

The SCS teeth were way, way, wayyyy smaller than I was expecting, but it was super efficient.

Couldn’t have said it any better @Roth my man! I still giggle every time I use it, it’s a dream come true after 2 years of poking and brushing the GR8TR fine plate, which had a nice, fluffy grind like the SCS. I’ve got the 3 plates for the BCG but still haven’t used the coarse one yet, but I’ve heard people who love the coarse grind; I’ve just been bouncing between medium and fine. Lazy hippie... :disgust:

Why is the BCG preferred by you ?
All three plates yield a very consistent grind. It stays clean, and it grinds very easily (I can one finger spin the top with a normal amount of bud).

As if that wasn't enough already, the threadless design makes it extremely convenient and they look beautiful.

All my other grinders are sitting collecting dust, even the Gr8tr and SLX.

Why is the BCG preferred by you ?

Several reasons.

First of all, this thing doesn't clog or get gunked up after repeated use. There is a residue forming on the surface of the teeth from all the herb I've ground, but it has yet to impact performance. It's still just about as smooth turning as the day I got it. My Santa Cruz Shredder would have been cleaned several times by now.

Second, there are NO threads anywhere on the grinder. All the plates attach magnetically. It might not seem like a big deal at first, but I would never want to go back to threads after experiencing threadless. The magnets are plenty strong that there's never a concern of the parts coming apart accidentally. But yet the design allows you to "crack" it open like an egg one handed if you're dexterous enough.

Third, the cutting edge on the top of the center post where the middle and top plates connect. On most grinders, this is an area of extreme buildup, and you have to careful to avoid it when loading the grinder full of bud. Not with the BCG. With that cutting edge, you can literally throw bud anywhere in the grinder and not worry about it. It just turns and grinds it effortlessly.

I've been purposefully "rough" on the grinder, throwing bud every where in it. In the center post, on the outside edge. All places I'd avoid in my SCS. No issues with the BCG, it just grinds it all without issue.

Fourth, it's drop dead gorgeous. Seriously, the brilliant cut design on it is amazing. I love just holding and admiring it. And with the ability to mix and match colors, you can pick out your personal favorite.

And lastly, there are 3 different, interchangeable grind plates to let you customize your experience to what you're needing ground at the moment. I use the fine grind, and it's a wonderfully fluffy fine grind that my Flowerpot absolutely rips through.

Honestly, the only thing I don't like about it is loading directly out of the bottom chamber. With the center post in the bottom dish, it can be a little more difficult to grab the ground bud. It's the main reason I'd like a larger size BCG, which is in the pipeline for future development.

However, this might not be an issue for most as I have fairly large hands. And it doesn't bother me since I typically dump my ground bud into a bowl to use since both my brother and myself use it.

Ya, it's pretty great :)

For me the BCG solves that issue where you can over torque the threads leaving one unable to access the herb chamber. It just doesn't happen with the BCG, I find I can transfer all the grind torque right to the teeth.

Like @Roth mentioned, it also removes any concerns about loading in the bud thanks to that awesome cutting edge on the centre post. I just place a bud dead centre, sorta mash and twist a little and the grinder closes up and continues grinding the herb with ease. The lidded end of the grinder also wobbles a little on the lower toothed section while grinding. This is by design and helps to avoid material sticking or building up on the inside rim of that lower toothed section.

The attention to detail and engineering in this grinder solves a lot of of problems. The design is reliant on a centre post in the herb collection area which I can see some people not liking but I haven't had an issue with.

The overall experience is just smooth.

Oh yeh and it cuts brilliantly.

I wouldn’t expect them to have a 4/20 sale with a brand new product.
I guess they might, but since it’s a startup and they are still working out production issues and they already have a fair amount of demand, I don’t see why they should. IMHO.

You have to try the coarse plate just to experience the throughput speed. It takes no effort and half as many turns as the medium plate I'm finding. It doesn't turn out ridiculously different, but it is a nice and noticeable difference.

Some really good and truthful posts above about the Brilliant Cut. It really is very ideal, almost perfect.

To scrutinise the BCG, all I can say is that there is a good chance that some micro abrasions of the anodised surface will occur on the central post (where it interfaces with the three pins on the grinding plates, could happen there too). I assume this is caused by my tendency to close the grinder by hovering the top/grind plate above the chamber and letting it fly up so it's shut. I really like that feature.
I often load from my knee, being able to close and pocket the grinder one handed is super appreciated and a thoughtless process.

I've looked into health risks from exposure to anodised aluminium and it's very much open to interpretation/under studied. But, given the quantities and what I read, I'm not concerned (it's not like some low grade finish which entirely rubs off, I'm talking very tiny specks).

Loading from the grinder, which I've been doing since using the general stack design since 2015, I find any spillage will find it's way onto the central pins magnet. It's quick and easy to wipe clean, but if you forget to and assemble the grinder, you will crush bits of herb between the magnets on the pin and the grind plate.
As the central pin magnet is recessed into the pin, some residue will fill the tiny gap around it.
I have been trying to figure out an easy way to have the pin magnet concealed but haven't come up with an easy solution beyond milling from the underside.
Rather, I've come up with some ideas for the larger BCG which would eliminate the central pin entirely and impact this next point.

I've been offering around my grinder as I normally would, and everyone has been impressed, yet everyone has also tried to untwist it to access the goods, and everyone needs direction to pull it apart. When they finally do, they snap it in half and depending on how full the grinder is, they might come close to losing a little bit from the induced angle. Once you know what's up, you know to keep it level and to lift the top up.

But, with an overall larger diameter and a thicker sidewall, and perhaps some additional magnets or ferrous material, you could have a large inner basin and the same threadless interface, which as many allude - is a necessity.
However there's a lot to be said about the function and aesthetics of the chamber as it is.

The function of this grinder is seriously spot on.
It's not a cheap item, but it's the very best tool I've used to chop herb, and I've tried many, from coins to scissors, to coffee grinders and mulling cards, and finger ripping to a cheese board and a knife, the BCG is better than any alternative, it simply is brilliant

I stopped using anything other than those cheap wood grinders that came with orders from Vapornation years ago. I stopped because one day i decided to heat my coconut oil up in a microwave with abv in it, Well there was some metal shavings in there and they ignited the abv making the enire batch taste like burnt metal shit. I won't say who's grinder i was using but it's a known one and i just can't see any other metal grinders not flaking.

I gotta ask has anyone attempted heating up abv in microwave after using the Bcg? I really have a interest in this one since you can put different plates in it.

The metal flaking is a result of low quality grinders like the old silver ones Puffitup would hand out. I'd imagine all of your wood grinders drop in splinters too (but if you strain the oil through cheesecloth or something no wood or plant matter should get through). High quality grinders like the BCG, SCS, and gr8tr in my experience produce no metal flaking. I'd also recommend infusing the avb and coconut oil inside of a Crock-Pot or something instead of the microwave so that there's better control of the temp and final product. I've never tried wood grinders or microwaves, but high quality metal grinders have never caused me any issues.

I probably should have specified i only microwaved to melt. I would never attempt a extraction that way.
I have a Mbm and use the crock pot method for small amounts, And i filter with the bag that came with the Mbm

I don't really use low quality anything until this happened, Now i use cheap wood grinders. I didn't wan't to say names but i have had one that you listed flake and it was confirmed to be authentic, So now i am rather hesitant to get a Lift or a Bcg. I would love to see someone with either a lift of bcg attempt to microwave some abv collected over about a months time in for 5-10 seconds.

Ah, I was definitely toasty while trying to figure out what the avb was doing in the microwave.

I'm still not really sure, but Ill hopefully be receiving my BCG soonish. Then, I'll try to get a more non-speculative answer for you.

But while I'm being speculative I want to bet the SCS flaked. I don't really mind if I'm wrong, as it's a nice grinder. But it was just the first I had experience with, and so it made the list. Especially while using really tough herb I always thought it was too rough. Hopefully you'll find a grinder that suits you best.
