Herb Grinders

Somewhere North of The Wall
I’m in.

I don’t want you SLX though. Just knowing if it’s axtually stainless steel or not is good enough for me. - But if it is SS, I’ll ship you your choice of ID products, along with a crisp $100 bill to cover the cost of the grinder you bought.
I like your terms IT!
I confess that until I visited your site, that I was only familiar with your silo and launchpad products (from my love of Dynavap and their thread), and never realised you also made a grinder and all the other stuff you do.
Kudos to you

220g, I'm high and missed the typo. Mine is the 49mm model. It is definitely heavier than aluminium, I have a larger ally grinder that's 150g and a smaller that's 75g.

It is 100% not aluminium. I can't guarantee it's stainless steel, I'm not an expert, but I will bet my beloved car that it's not aluminium, no matter how skeptical you are.

Black Leaf are a 20+ year old well-known company that supply headshops all over Europe with their own brand of bongs, pipes and even their own vaporizers, wholesale. We're not talking about some shit off dhgate here, it's a reputable German manufacturer and headshop.

No European online retailer has more grinders on offer than Black Leaf, with most grinders in our offering coming from our own production. For our customers this means: guaranteed quality directly from the manufacturer.

In light of Skunks review, and this comment I guess you'll agree that the grinder is SS?
Will you take his word for it?

All I'm saying is that it seemed odd. And I'd rather mention that so we can all investigate it rather than accept the product description as fact.

Point taken, I agree that those manufacturers who state 'titanium' in their product description (while failing to state that Titanium is merely the COLOUR) are misleading (either accidentally , or deliberately) potential customers re' the material their grinder is made from.
I too have seen evidence of this in the form of folk quoting said product descriptions in forum discussions to 'prove' that their grinder is Ti .
So I agree that it behooves us to examine these claims and call manufacturers or retailers out when the truth is being bent, or outright broken.
I've yet to see this sort of misdirection with stainless steel though, and in light of Skunks efforts above, perhaps we can agree that the grinders in question are indeed SS?

You graciously declined my stake of my SLX, so in all good conscience I can't take advantage of your offer.
Well done for having the courage of your convictions though!

Put a magnet on it. Magnets are not attracted to titanium, aluminum or magnesium so if it sticks there's a good chance that its stainless steel or some other metal with iron, nickel and/or cobalt.

Anyone know when the Black Leaf 59mm 4 piece SS grinder will be back instock? This is the 1st SS 4 piece I've seen that has a diameter bigger than my thumbnail. jk Last time I went looking for a 4 piece SS grinder (August) I ended up buying a 2 piece from Boomers because all of the 4 pieces were tiny.

Magnets aren't attracted to most stainless steel either.

It's not in stock at Black Leaf themselves and they're apparently closed until after New Years.

Due to an internal modernization the dispatch of orders in the period from 22.12.2018 - 01.01.2019 is not possible.

It is a fluffy medium grind, not a fine grind, it cuts more than grinds FYI.

What's the Boomer's one like? Did you get the one with the powertool attachment?

You probably already knew this but you're right! lol The only stainless steel I have here is in a couple of my knives (most of mine are carbon steel) but the ones I have in SS are M390, S35V and S30V and they are magnetic due to the elements mentioned in my previous post. I checked the SS Boomers grinder and it's not magnetic so I stand corrected.

No power tool attachment but I like the grinder. At first not so much because of the semi-fluffy grind but just grind a little longer to get it med fine. It can gum up quick if you over fill it but just toss in the dishwasher and it comes out spotless.

There is a ton of buzz for the brilliant cut grinder recently, but I thought the general consensus was that aluminum grinders were something to steer clear off. Has that mentality changed?

It doesn’t look like it has any ridges or texture on the sides, but I see there are other grinders that do not. Has anyone noticed this to be a problem?

The buzz around the brilliant cut is the design is just that, brilliant. No jamming, no threads, easy peasy grinding. I need to pick one up.

I haven't heard this one before, was there something I missed? Almost all the grinders I've used over the years, including my two current go-to's(spacecase and gr8tr) have all been made from aluminum.

The BCG is machined from 7075, most other grinders on the market are 6063. It feels different in my hand than other grinders. It feels lightweight but substantial all at once.

AFAIK, there’s no drama or concern about aluminium grinders. Some people feel like heated aluminium is no bueno, especially in the air/vapor path.

The BCG doesn’t need ridges/grippy texture on the side, you can spin it with a finger. The BCG doesn’t have a typical grinder “bottom” and both sides having the diamond profile makes a huge difference when I just cram it stupidly full. It’s still pretty much effortless. The BCG is a game changer, for me.

Outside of the Brilliant Cut Grinder, which is being raved about but also somewhat hard to come by, what is the general recommendation for a three-piece with a nicely curved collection chamber in the base?

The Santa Cruz Shredder seems to be a perennial favourite, but here in the UK I can only seem to find the small or the large, where what I think I want is the medium.

I’m curious about this also. Excluding the brilliant cut grinder (already know I’m going to get one in April), what do people recommend?

How do the Santa Cruz shredder, herb ripper, super weapon, and Phoenician grinders compare?

(Feel free to add any other suggestions for comparison)

IMO it is nearly impossible to truly compare apples to apples when dealing with SCS.
Their tooth designs and screen meshes change often, sometimes 2-3 times a year. I LOVE my SCS more than any other grinder I've ever used, but it is not the same SCS as what is available in the store today.... those have a looser screen pattern that let more debris through (not just Keif).

Ah, but we are talking three-piece SCS not four-piece, so the screen situation is not really relevant.

Interested to hear more about the revisions to the teeth though - how much have they changed over the years? Would you say yours is radically different from a one bought today?

My life is a lie :whoa:

Also I've been using the Jyarz grinder for a year or so now. Since it released, at least, and the Gr8r (v1 and 2) prior to that. Still works great with minimal cleaning but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't lusting over a BCG.
Scissor’s is all had?
Grinder’s are new in da CIVILIZED world?

Fingers from the field’s?
SPACECACE was like unreal when It got one?
