Herb Grinders

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
A couple of other issues I had with the Lift. While it is effortless to grind, I feel since it "cuts not grinds", it takes a lot longer/more twists, and that blade was a nightmare to maintain and got gunked up fast IME. Great concept, just wasn't my thing. Cool seeing many of you liking it though!

thank you, i was wondering about these 2 points
Glad i didn’t spend 100 to realize that

they should implement a démultiplication gear to reduce twisting though

If you don't have any grab some Storz & Bickel brushes (come in a 3 pack) or even a makeup brush. I give my grinders a little brush everytime I empty one (at least in the storage dish) to get all the Kief out but also to prevent them from gunking up. The grinding area gets a brush every so often as well and so far I haven't had to do any major cleaning.

I own a lot of grinders, and have owned a lot more in the past.
In my experience, every "scraper" that comes with every grinder is useless.
I don’t remember which grinder, probably a cheapo one - but I once got a scraper that looked like a mini squigi (window/ice scraper) that I really liked. But I lost it. And now I only use my BCG 3 piece so no need anyway.
But, that was the only one that actually worked for me (for smaller amounts).

Yeah. I have a handful of the little squeegee ones. I never thought much of them either

Those little scrapers are my favorite because theyre actually thin enough to scoop small amlunts of kief.
Here I am picturing a mini-squeegee thinking how it be kinda cute. I did just introduce my kids to Honey I Shrunk The Kids and I think I read mini-squeegee as Rich Moranis was showing the neighbours his couch. Now that you put scraper my brain made the connection lol.

The Gleichdick grinder from Austria has been mentioned a few times in this thread, but I haven't seen anyone sharing personal experiences with it, so here we go.

So the Gleichdicks (bit of a funny name in English, isn't it?) are made out of hardened (300HV) aluminum, they come in 2-, 3- and 4-part variations, different sizes and colors, there's also a wood version (with an aluminum mill) available. Their main goal was to create a device that is able to grind fermented weed, which is known to be very sticky and moist and will get squeezed and torn apart by most other grinders.

I use the 2 part versions, because I prefer to finetune the grind for each session instead of relying to preset grinds from a plate. The shape of the Gleichdick is indeed useful when working with very dense buds, it also helps a lot in case the pieces are jammed. All variations have no threads, the pieces are held together by magnets only. Handling it feels natural and is effortless. The manufacturing is well done, everything fits together nice and smooth. I also appreciate that it gives me enough room to put my herb; many grinders have dozens of blades and teeth which require breaking down buds prior to the actual job.

I clean my grinder regularly, so I can't claim it doesn't gunk up over time. I haven't noticed any critical spots, though, so I'm quite sure it will work nicely without cleaning for quite some time.

The main reason I love this grinder is → the grind. First of all, it's really quick; drier buds will need half a turn to one full turn for a medium grind, most other consistencies will be shredded with two to three full turns. The coolest thing though is the grind consistency: no matter what kind of bud I put in there, it always comes out superfluffy and extremely even. I must admit my experiences with high end grinders are limited, but when I see the grind results from grinders being reviewed on YouTube I almost always think that they are not quite as even as what I can do with the Gleichdick.

I've been using this grinder for about two years now, it definitely stood the test of time and works as nicely as on day one. I highly recommend it.

I don't know of any u.s. or international retailer, but they ship worldwide. Custom engravings are available too.

So I feel like a bit of a prick complaining about no service from SL\X as I just received the following mail,

0K-tnpt-cW2zvFhtXzvGpm0zdzV3Je0U8d6Ikex3DKtCI-vBhdc_Mz2bhOhZg2eI3TUV7Outwzn1yvqPXKjYETMtpLMT29SFScW4iRWVSdaZoeL4rem_Ei7YM_TurljOrbE5nkFn8ceh8QGuvm7Ysivrme3AvYQ11cE=s0-d-e1-ft

thank you for your patience in waiting for your replacement SLX.

We apologize for the delay, and feel you deserve an explanation. Over the past six months, the SLX team took a hit - our Replacement Team manager, who had been with us since the beginning, lost his battle with cancer.

It's been a long road, but we have a new manager handling replacements, and shipments are back on track.

In recognition of your wait, we are sending you a factory new complete SLX to replace your damaged unit - regardless of the issue with your current SLX, you'll be receiving an entire new grinder.

Again, our most sincere apologies for the delay. Shipments have started, and depending on your location, should be arriving within 5-7 days (US) or 1-2 weeks (international).

Regards,

The SLX Team

So I should get a replacement in a couple of weeks.:)

I went to Puff it Up yesterday to buy a Santa Cruz 3 piece and I'm seeing all of them out of stock. It says in stock until you try to add to your cart. Bummer :ugh:

Anyone else ever used a santa cruz shredder and found themselves really disappointed with it?

I purchased it off the recommendation of troy from 4202vapezone who claims it's the best quality/consistency of grind that you can get...

But I find that not only does the grider not really shred as quickly/efficiently as I hoped (I've tried grinding around 3 grams at a time several times now and each time it was an absolute struggle), I find that the grind itself is way too coarse and chunky. It feels like the grind I would get if I were just tearing up my herb with my hands and some scissors. Doesn't feel optimal or efficient at all for vaporizing, which in my experience over the years works better with a finer grind...

Ive found my SCS to grind extremely fine when I load it fully. Are you sure you got a real one?

Yes 100% Purchased straight from puffitup.

The only time I was able to achieve a fine grind with the grinder was when I held it upside down and grinded like that to prevent the herb from falling through the holes too fast.

Interesting, all I know is mine has a perfect grind so long as I stuff the top piece full of bud which will yield maybe 2 or 3 large chunks at most out of 1.5-2g and the rest will be uniformly fine. Do you break your nugs up into smaller pieces before putting them in the grinder?

I usually do break up my nugs, but not by a whole lot. That could be a potential issue here. Perhaps I'm putting too many big nugs and it's affecting my grind quality?

You're saying you get a pretty fine grind just grinding it normally? Not even holding it upside down or whatever?

I love my SCS way more than my Brilliant Cut Grinder... but IMO SCS does have a problem with direction and evolution of product.

I've said it for a decade, SCS [and numerous other companies] shoot themselves in the foot every few years. I've seen no natural progression with regards to teeth design or screens. Just about every year or two they update their design and I'm not convinced it is always a step forward.

For me, the sweet spot was about 3-4 years ago. I have a 4-piece from this era and nothing competes. It is still sharp as a tack and the older models had a finer screen, which I appreciate more than the current generation 4-piece offering.

I really stand alone here, and pissed some folks off with my comments in the BCG thread...

The threadless design is innovative, but IMO I really hate the post in the BCG collection chamber. I grind a full lid at a time, and the post tends to foul up my pouring when dumping it into a Jyarz. There are a number of other irks I've mentioned in other posts, but that is my biggest...

My SCS delivers the perfect grind for me, no matter how many different plate options I have with the BCG, they are simply unnecessary. It is an okay grinder but I feel like I wasted a ton of money on the BCG for grind that is really no better [different yes, but really it does not offer an improved grind over the SCS]. BCG is certainly pretty with colors and has a nice grind and a rather residue-free finish, but I am not sucking the BCG tit. It does not fit my needs. Your mileage may vary.

When I grind I never put it upside down and it comes out great. I always break my nugs up into smaller nugs by ripping chunks off the stem and removing as much stems as possible.
