Herb Grinders

You are not alone there!
I am glad they only have the 4 piece as I would probably buy a 3 piece, just could not bring myself to butchering the kief screen the way I did my 88mm SpaceCase.

Nearly everytime I mention Lift I state that I would buy a 3 piece if the bottom piece was deeper to be able to grip better and to store more herb. I emailed them the other day asking if they had any plans to make something like that but they said I was their first request and because of the logistics of making a different part (which I totally understand) they didn't have plans to make something like that in the future. They did mention a plastic spacer ring as a possibility in the future however if anyone is interested.

I had also asked about the 4 piece Stainless Steel version compared to the aluminum version and this is what they said.

"All operations and grind consistency are the same with all versions (Stainless Steel and Aluminum) - it is the exact same design. But the Spinner on the Stainless Steel version is so much heavier that the momentum of the mass when it is spun makes it continue spinning - it also dampens the cutting, so it feels so much smoother."

That last part has me. When I use my BCG it cuts so effortlessly its ridiculous. When I use my HerbRipper XL it doesn't cut as effortlessly but I love the heavy feel of the stainless steel. I bought a Lift copycat on Aliexpress and even it cuts really nice regardless of how poorly it compares to my BCG or HerbRipper in its construction. That just tells me the actual Lift should cut smoothly and the stainless steel version would cut like butter.

Basically I'm trying to justify in my mind why I should buy a $400 CAD ($300 USD) grinder when I've been parading around about how 3 pieces are the best and that I'll never own another 4 piece. You watch, BCG will announce their XL version and then I'll be totally fucked lol.

I would be into a XL BCG, I have a 'Large' SLX and it is so small compared to my SpaceCase it feels useless, I hate having to rip buds apart with my fingers (the main reason I got a grinder) to fit into these small units.:2c:

You have just "discovered" another accessory that we will "need". The "Pre-grinder" grinder breaks up the big pieces into pieces that fit the "regular" grinder.

Bought a GR8TR V2 for xmas

i dislike it

- it is very small
- teeth are microscopic and get gunked in just 3-4 grinds
- surface is very sticky too (black anodizing or whatever)
- teflon o ring between grinding chalbers is very thin and large and get in the way when manipulating
- manufacturing and QC seems very poor on mine ( marks of machining, on one chamber threads there was like a drop of acid that has destroyed paint and showed raw aluminium underside and it was dirty in that spot (green-black shit on my hands)

so i asked immediately refund (before even trying) and they told me to keep it after refund (namastevaporizers.fr are good sellers) so i cleaned in ultrasonic iso just to try functionality. It was no no all around

I'm a dosing cap freak, with S-B caps for my Crafty and HR caps for my Fury2. Only vape that still gets loose herb are my VapCaps. I've had both types of caps since they first came out two years ago, and using them daily, I have tried every which way to fill and grind them. I find the best airflow and extraction with caps is a rough grind in my SpaceCase and then a quick whirl in the finer little plastic S-B grinder.

Couldn't agree more. I really wanted to love it and I used it for almost a year. I didn't have the QC issues but the build up was insane and it hindered functionality.

I LOVE my Lift grinder. It is the best accessory purchase I've ever made. I've only had mine for 7 months but I have not had a single issue with it yet. I deep cleaned it once after 1 month of use cause it was new and I wanted it completely clean again. Now I will occasionally take a S&B brush to the inside and screen. Cleaning isn't necessary. The blades will get resin on them but the great thing about the blade design vs teeth is that you can harvest that resin easily. I take the included guitar pick and just scrape the flat surface of the blade. I then take those chips and press them to make a puck. To harvest resin from a grinder with teeth would be much more involved.

I personally think that the Lift is engineered so well that the SS version is overkill to the nth degree. There is no metal on metal friction during the grind process. This not only enhances durability/longevity but it should also assuage potential health concerns regarding metal flaking. The anodization is also almost Type III (hard coat) but there is just one thing different which I believe was done out of environmental concerns but the result is similar. The anodization on my Lift looks the exact same as it did on day 1. No scratches, etc and I've dropped mine a few times as well.

I have the 4 piece and I personally love the weight and feel of it. Really nice heft...3/4 lb and feels great in the hand. Easy to grind and can accommodate a lot of flower at one time. I know some people don't care for it but it does a really nice job of collecting keif. I like using it for travel...smaller amount for same effect essentially.

This said, I think the BCG is a great grinder but mine has been relegated to travel status. My DD is definitely the Lift and despite knowing the standard aluminum version would serve me well for years and years to come, I sprung an SS version myself. It just looked so cool...I couldn't help myself. Plus, I really believe in the tech. Its built well and works well. I'm still waiting for it to ship but will come back and update once I have mine.

@VGOODIEZ only has the 4-piece in silver left and everyone else is completely sold out.

Searching for a new Grinder need to know if the Brilliant Cut Grinder worth the hype???

In short yes. It's a fantastic upgrade to almost any grinder. I personally like the Lift better.

Before I got to the end of your post (where I see you bought a S.S.) I was thinking "but the stainless is shiny!" as a reason to buy it. Also the weight. This is why I love my HerbRippers, they're friggin tanks. I just wish the medium grind of the HR wasn't medium-fine. I like the medium on the BCG better.

I kinda want one of the stainless versions but it feels overkill when I've moved away from 3 piece grinders and usually only use a medium plate. But that finish!

Do you have all 3 plates for your BCG? How do they compare to the LIFT for grind consistency at fine, medium, and coarse?

Edit: Do you know when your stainless steel version will be delivered?

Anyone use an Xl 4in grinder as a daily? Been really interested in the SCS 4in.

Currently use a 3 piece 1.5" mendo, 2 piece 3" mendo, and my daily is a cheapo 2" 4 piece that I converted to a 3 piece.

I think I'm going to pass on my shredder 3piece since it never got much use, I found the new teeth annoying vs my older 4piece SCS that I used as a 3piece... They get herb stuck to them way more and can't get as consistent of a grind in my experience, though that is tough to do regardless. I pretty much always have to turn a grinder upside down to get a nice consistent grind, and the original SCS did that much better for me then the newer models they sell now.

The larger SLX was a nice upgrade for me, solid 3piece though it is a little flat with a shallow yet wide dish... I found that the ceramic coating worked pretty well, but it does gunk up and get hard to turn just like the SCS (and yes over time I finally noticed a little flaking too which is quite disconcerting). What put the nail in its coffin was when I cleaned it finally, after it immediately gunked up again and was hard to turn.

I tried the OG GR8TR, and was extremely unimpressed, found it more inconvenient than useful by a wide margin, so I sold that quick. Never got to try a Lift grinder, but always wanted to... Also that new Ripper seems neat with the steel, and I wonder if the United Machining one is any good? Seems they are working on a V2

Anyway so I got the Brilliant Cut Grinder last May after ordering in their first 420 sale, and have never looked back. I only use the other grinders to hold grounds from the BCG now lol I have never cleaned it, yet it still works very well. Sure you get kief sticking to the sides, but it never locks up on me (and btw I always carefully load small broken nugs in between teeth, with all of my grinders, the other ones would still lock up, especially with fresh moist dense herbs). I still have to turn upside down for a bit at first to get a more consistent medium fine grind (I only have the fine plate and see no use for the others since I can get a more medium course grind without flipping upside down when I want to) but it stays much cleaner, easier to keep clean with a toothpick for any dust or bits in the teeth or on the sides. Occasionally I used a little brush on the edges of the lid, did this more at first when I got it, but it's been a while and it is still working great so probably not very necessary.

Having no threads to turn is also very liberating, while I really dig the style and colors (mine is sky blue) though it could be a little tough to grip sometimes. I would like a slightly larger one, but this one is actually the perfect size for my needs honestly. I actually may end up buying another one, LOVE that new amethyst color, since it would be useful as I enjoy using so many different strains... Or maybe I am just justifying another unnecessary purchase lol Never thought I'd own more than one grinder, but I like the Brilliant Cut that much apparently! And it would not let me down like my second SCS or the SLX did, but maybe I should be trying one of these other newbies... We'll see this 420!

I definitely love how effortless it is to grind in the BCG. I throw full nugs in and it chews through them like they're nothing. I loaded mine up last night with enough God's Green Crack to entirely fill the herb chamber and besides squishing the top down there was so little effort required to actually grind everything up. Made for a few good Elev8r bowls.

I really like my HerbRipper XLs as well, my only minor gripe is that the medium plate is more medium fine. I love the weight, the bigger herb chamber and the lack of a center post. It gets jammed up a little easier then the BCG but it's not that bad. The loss of a magnetic bottom chamber is almost fully rectified with the 1/4 turn threads (I still love my magnets). The bigger size is a little harder to turn only because of the weight of the stainless steel. I think the little plastic rings that sits between the top and center pieces is more slippery in the BCG as well which helps with turning.

My current dream grinder is a BCG in stainless steel, with the magnet built into the outer ring which would eliminate the center post, in both the current sizing and an XL size. I'm a 3 piece convert but it should be designed to be able to add a kief catch ring (as the current is supposed to update too at some point) while maintaining a deep herb catch for the 4 piece crowd. We'd lose out on color options but heat treating would be a cool custom option.

I got me a "classic" weed grinder. Made out of stainless steel in china with a package from Taiwan, a teflon ring from Japan and a price from Germany.
I got this size model iirc, just because it was what they had in the shop. I think I would rather take a larger model. The medium one just costs a little more:

https://blackleaf.de/en/detail/index/sArticle/1392

430509-11-black-leaf-steely-dan-edelstahl-grinder-2-teilig.jpg

It is very heavy for its size. Half of the lower part is solid steel.
The edges are a bit sharp and the teeth cut well. This model is a bit small and awkward in my hand also because it is the first 2-piece model I have. But they also have 4-piecers.
I love that i can scrape off what builds up inside and don't have to worry about aluminium teeth wearing down and getting vaporised or burnt. Also I see me rather clearing this SSteel one with alcohol that the aluminium one. (Noting that are all a bit exaggerated fears in reason to have a reason to buy a new grinder:D)

The pouch has a zip and keeps the grinder well closed for travels. This is a great feature.
Lifetime warranty, whatever that means.

I like it also for its price and simplicity. Of course I could imagine some refinements, as having a compartment in that heavy base or something, but then it would get more expensive.
:peace:

I went to the Black Flag website and they have two types of stainless steel grinders that look very similar but have different prices.

This 49 mm 4-piece Steely Dan comes in a zip bag and costs €65: https://blackleaf.de/en/detail/index/sArticle/1390

While the non-Steely Dan model comes in a velvet bag and is way cheaper at €45: https://blackleaf.de/en/detail/index/sArticle/2470

Any idea what's the difference?

Also, how much herb can you grind in a 49 mm grinder versus a 59 mm one?

Thanks

The height. The Steely Dan ones are a little less thick. Otherwise they look pretty similar.
In my local shop they only had the Steely Dan series, so I cannot really tell you more. You might ask the Blackleaf people if there is more difference than just the "box", engravings and thickness.
They might be a little lighter too.

You can grind as much weed as you want in any of those grinders. It just takes longer with a smaller diameter.

I finally got me a 59mm one because it is the standard size I am used to (roughly the same size (diameter) as the storz&bickel plastic grinders for example). Fits my hands the best.

While a smaller one would work as well I love the comfort of this size.

I reused my old standard 4 piece aluminium grinder these days and it felt like a toy that almost falls apart compared to this one. And so light it almost flies out of my hands. Really got to re-adapt to it a bit.

Edit: For home use I would not mind the pouch "box" and choose the cheaper one. But I only speak from the images and only guess the performance of the 2 grinders is the same. I am happy with the performance of the steely dan and would not want the other grinder to perform any bader. If I had to buy another one I would want to touch the cheaper one for comparison or a confirmation of blackleaf it is/performs the same.

I only have the medium plate for the BCG unfortunately.

No idea when the SS Lift will be delivered. Last I heard, it was expected to be delivered by the end of last year. The only complaint that I might have is the total lack of updates on the SS Lift since paying in August. This said, I know that any delays are the result of them wanting to makes sure its perfect but having updates would have been nice.
