@Pyr0 Regarding getting dark bits in the middle and greener bits around the edges; In my testing that's the result I got from over packing and/or using material that was too fine. From the photos I'd guess your issue was the former rather than the latter.
Regarding my own ongoing testing of the device and assessment on the viability/use of dry herb vaping as part of my own daily intake;
- I haven't learned to enjoy the flavor of dry herb vaping. I love the taste of my distillate and oils, and of course I grew up on the taste of combusted herb. I just haven't come to appreciate the taste of vaping herb in the same way.
- I mentioned the difference in high before but I'll mention it again as I think it's important and it seems to be the main/only advantage of using dry herb instead of distillate/oils: The high I'm getting is far more wide ranging than I get with my oil pen, and frankly I prefer it. I have to work harder to get there, it feels like a chore, I'm not a massive fan of the taste but when I'm high it's a really good, well rounded effect.
- It's no where near as convenient as a pen and never will be. I'm also still frustrated by how long it takes to get high and the general effort involved. To understand how/why, consider these numbers:
If I'm using really good distillate then I get through between quarter of a gram to half a gram per day, we'll call it 0.35g. When making this kind of distillate I get about 6g for every 100g of herb I use. This comes out between 5 and 6 grams per day in pre-extraction dry herb.
Now lets say each crucible is about 0.15g. That would mean vaping roughly 35 crucibles per day to get through the same amount of herb [insert generic "ain't no one got time for that" meme here]. I understand that direct comparisons like this are a bit off due to differences in efficiency and stuff, but I still think it's a useful way of thinking about it.
Overall: I'm going to be using my pen as my main "go to" device for now, but will continue to use my MV1 in the evenings as a supplement to help make sure I get the full desired range of effects. My next test will be attempting to use a wax pen and rosin press full time for a few weeks to make yet another comparison.
Special mention: Ghost customer support has their shit together, and that's really important. I've read lots of horror stories about other companies and this wasn't a horror story. The thing broke, I sent them a photo, they sent me a new one, they didn't force me to risk sending the used one through customs, and I couldn't have asked for better service. 10/10.
