***Gamers*** What are you playing?

Enjoying elex 2

Wow, first I'm hearing of this game and it sounds right up my alley. A Sci Fi/Fantasy combo open world RPG? Hell yeah.

performance on pc are straight up dog shit.

Uh oh. I play on a 1660Ti Laptop. I don't really have a problem with much. It just sometimes sounds like the deck of an aircraft carrier, but that's mostly on PCVR stuff. Elex looks good graphics wise, but it doesn't look like a laptop melter.

Shit, my backlog of games is getting ridiculous. I love my girlfriend and all, but I'd have so much more time for gaming if I was single. I told her one way or another, she's my last partner. If it doesn't work out, I'm moving to a solar powered cabin in the middle of nowhere, growing my own weed, and spending my non-working time chopping wood and gaming. VR Porn is like 4-5 years away from making girlfriends obsolete anyway. I left that part off of my little rant though.

Had to give up rocket league; the toxicity was too contagious.

Tried Stellaris... symptoms are making the ui too difficult to see. Too bad. I love 4x

Everspace 2 is a pretty chill 6dof space looter shooter rpg. Better with kbm than controller, but it's living room worthy after some remapping.

Just grabbed up Hardspace: Shipbreaker on a lark. 2 hours in. It's tedious in a good way when winding down or unable to sleep. Needs some debugging.

Cogmind is a surprisingly fun and deep sci-fi themed 2d roguelike. The work of a single very dedicated developer

just take in account that combat is pretty clunky and the game is pretty brutal for the first 15/20 hours, you can mitigate that by exploring a lot, this is a game that encourage exploration.

Never played a Bioshock game before. Downloaded all 3 for free on the Epic Store. Decided to fire up Bioshock Infinite since it had the most modern looking graphics. Like 20 minutes in I am totally hooked. The story and worldbuilding drew me in instantly. I like games with fun gameplay, but more than that I want to have an experience. Infinite does an amazing job at transporting you to a weird and wonderful world.

At the beginning when you're entering the "Welcome Center" and this choir music playing, I knew I was in for a ride.

It was so peaceful and beautiful I almost felt bad about having to go on a murderous rampage moments later.

If you have any sort of PC go ahead and download it. On Ultra graphics my laptop fans don't even turn on. Like 10% GPU usage. Still looks good for the art style they're going for.

Tried Stellaris... symptoms are making the ui too difficult to see.

I really wanted to like this one. But managing dozens of units in 3 dimensions got to be too overwhelming. It felt like being at work.

Anybody ever played Valheim? I was looking for a chill experience. Combat focused games can get a little stressful. I was also looking for something in VR. Working from home at my computer for 8 hours, then gaming on that same computer for 2 hours at night was starting to fuck with my back. Didn't notice this when I was mostly playing standing VR stuff.

So far Valheim looks like what I wanted. I love the art style. For a survival type game, it's not overly complicated. And the limited combat is kind of fun with the parry mechanic. Some dude made a VR mod for it that works really well. And I can switch to flatscreen when I'm not in the mood to strap a monitor to my face.

Apparently Steam tracks "Steam VR" hours as its own "game". I bought my gaming laptop and Oculus a little over a year ago. It says I have just over 500 hours in Steam VR. I'd like to see an audit. Because that would mean I spent almost a whole month in the Mentalverse. No fuckin way.

I guess I need to touch grass.

I think that tech in consumer devices is still 5+ years away. But you're speaking my language.

The next big headset release is likely a month or two away.

I'm dying for a smaller, lighter headset. But this bad boy is likely going to cost around $1500. Luckily, Chairman Xi is coming to the rescue.

All of these things are made in the same few Chinese megafactories. TikTok seems like they're out for blood. If they release a heavily subsidized headset with similar specs to the Quest Pro, Zuck is kinda fucked.

Now, people will say "I'm not supporting a Chinese company". K. Support Facebook then. But both companies' headsets are made by the same Chinese workers in the same Chinese factories. And as far as not trusting a Chinese company with my data... I don't live in China. Their government can't do anything to me. The American government can though. And Meta has a very cozy relationship with US law enforcement agencies.

I've been playing Hero's Hour a HOMMlike indie game with a very cool dev team and modding support. Also was playing Diablo II again, but I ripped the anvil a bit too much and let my hardcore trapsin die, right after I finished farming for a runeword, and ...I think I need space from it.

I'm playing Papers, Please on my cell phone after a long time wait.
I find it impossible to play it after vaping but worth it: so many little things to look after, as quickly as possible.
Probably my best game option for a T-break.

LMAO. A Meta employee left a bunch of Meta's new headsets behind at a hotel.

Much better looking than the current Quest. And it better be since the rumored price tag is $1500. I haven't used my Quest in a while. Following VR news, my old headset looks and feels enormous compared to the new options coming down the pike. While I like VR a lot, I can't see spending 1500 on a headset.

Luckily China might have a solution. Pico is coming out with a competitor to the Meta Quest Pro. And they're rumoured to try and make the pricing closer to the Quest 2 than $1500. I guess they smell blood in the water after the leak so they started taking pre-orders without revealing the final price.

Ignore the crazy high price. It's just a placeholder. Pico and Meta are in a game of chicken. Pico wants to undercut Meta and deal a fatal blow to Zuck's Mentalverse.

If Pico puts out a small, light headset with a high resolution that's significantly under $1,000... I'd consider it. That's more in line with the price of a nice monitor.

Well this is a punch in the dick.

Disco Elysium is probably my favorite piece of fiction I've ever consumed. I still think about it most days. A small group of Estonian weirdos made something really special. Over 3 years later it's still widely rated as the best video game of all time. And imo, it's not hyperbole.

I was really looking forward to a sequel. So this sucks. Although, capitalists destroying Disco Elysium to make quicker short term profits just sort of feels like part of the experience of Disco Elysium tbh. A little on the nose, but what can you do.

Oh well. At least I have the memories. The fucking writing in this game though...

The horns. The last echo of a once triumphant battle cry, now reduced to a dying hymn of a failed nation.

The air is filled with the haunting melody that comes after. The melody is a chill, one that isn't just from the winter. Not just from the snow and slush. Not just from the sea breeze,. Not even from the looming sense of unending dread, silence, and nothingness contained within that one singular spot.

No, the chill is the dying gasp of hundreds of men and women, killed for their beliefs. It's the city's silent sigh of resignation at its fate. The sound a child makes as their innocence is lost. It is the chill that comes when dreams die. And brother, the dream of Revachol died ago. It's as dead as disco, baby

It's not all dour either. You can get an Actual Art Degree. Though I don't recommend it. In the game or real life.

There's virtually no "game play" in DE. It's all dice rolls. The reason it's great is because of the writing and the artwork. If you fire the people responsible for the writing, and the artwork... what the fuck is left?

ZA/UM is apparently hiring people to do Fortnite style microtransactions. I swear the only way this all makes sense is if it's part of an elaborate hoax/viral marketing campaign for the sequel. Disco Elysium is pretty explicitly critical of capitalism. Turning the sequel into a microtransaction hell, selling the TV rights to Amazon, and putting venture capitalist idiots after firing the creative team... this has gotta be a bit.

Although this phenomenon was described explicitly in the game by Joyce the Corpo:

Been going deep on Slay the Spire recently, really fun game if you like card games. Scratches that itch for me now that I ditched MTG as my main hobby for dry herb vaping.
