Pen Focus Vaporizer

My Hoppers have been in RMA for over a month so I've been using my Focus Pro hard and it's getting plugged. I've had this happen before and Puffitup replaced it once for me already. I can't imagine they'll do it again and I've tried everything I can think of to unplug it. Two of the three holes are completely plugged and the last one is getting there fast. Anyone know of any tricks to clear the air path?

I've taken the screen off and tried unplugging the holes and with a pick, I've also tried canned air and that didn't help at all. All along I've been trying to run burn offs between loads.

I really, really want a plug in unit that can take my heavy use without going through so many batteries and without plugging up. I just can't afford one right now.

You said two of the three holes so we gotta be talking about the external air intake holes that pull air into the oven right? I'm with @djurodjakovic .... how are they getting clogged? From the inside would be my guess since getting them clogged from the outside would be near impossible.

Reclaim and/or small herb particles could clog it from the inside I guess. Reclaim sounds more likely but you'd have to allow it to cook, right side up and drip into the bottom a lot. The bottom of my oven gets gunked up but no where near enough to clog it like that. I just pull the screen and clean it and I'm all good. Are you using any concentrates with it? Maybe concentrate could drip/overflow into the bottom.

If I'm reading this right burn off's wouldn't have helped much since the maximum heat would not be flowing down into the holes past the oven. Heck...a burn off with enough reclaim built up on the bottom might even cause the reclaim to liquefy more and drip into the bottom and exacerbate the problem.

I can't think of any way to unlcog those holes other than trying to heat to max temp until that oven and the unit in general is as hot as it can get and then blowing INTO the mouthpiece to see if you can blow the clog outward with the hot air. Unfortunately this could make it even worse.

I'm stumped.....

My review of the Focus Pro S.

Since the first iteration of the Focus vape pen I was a tester/reviewer and the S I recently received was sent to me for free for a review. Thanks to the manufacturer, FocusVaporizer, to the retailer Lacentralevapeur and to this forum (for giving us a place to share!) to gave me the opportunity to test this vape and a lot of others, one of my favorite hobby, for sure!

This version of the Focus vape pen is the best in term of design, I personnaly find this body sleeker than for the previous versions but it rest a very solid vaporizer in hands. The battery cap is now with a venting hole in case of battery incident. It's slightly smaller in size (1mm shorter). Here a pic of the battery cap:
L8ItHaV.jpg

The adjustable airflow seems to work a lot better, you feel the difference! The ring seems more secure and doesn't move too easily which is nice.

Bowl is exactly the same, the mouthpiece too. It came with the usual accessories (loading tool, brush, tweezers, usb cord, replacement glass mouthpiece). The included water tool adapter is very bad.

Here a pic with a 18650 for size comparison and the Focus original (not the pro version):
175HYqg.jpg

Now about performances, it rest a conduction vaporizer.... but a powerfull one!
The wide t° range (160°C-240°C) give you the opportunity to taste your meds at lower temp and to bump the t° to get very thick clouds.

The adjustable airflow makes more difference in vapor quality than for the previous versions. The restricted airflow produce bigger clouds and quicker extraction and the larger airflow is nice for a better taste and smoother hits.

The provided battery is not the best but will give you decent performances. It's a shame they didn't continue to include the LG HE2 they sent me with the first version.

All in all it's a solid choice to start in dry herb vaporization or to get a on the go device with replacable battery and nearly indestructible (the first version is my go to vape when going out under the worst conditions, using it with dirty hands, let it on the floor, in a bag or a car and even under the rain, fall a ton of times and it still works!). Performances are very decent and will make happy a lot of users, the unit come free of any factory smell&taste but it's better to do a short burn-off at max temp).

I just broke down and ordered a Focus Pro S. It's on sale at PIU for only $79.00. I just couldn't resist with the airflow so down on my existing Pro. I also really like the idea of the battery compartment vent hole. I really toyed around with the idea of getting a plug in tabletop unit, but in the end I simply couldn't afford it. Merry Christmas to me! :)

I got my Focus Pro S yesterday. I was so excited, I couldn't believe how fast it got here. I wish I could say my excitement lasted once I started using it.

The Focus Pro S I got definitely does not heat up as hot, not nearly as hot as my old Focus Pro. Even setting it up ten degrees Celsius higher it doesn't give the same amount of vape as the old one set much lower. Not only that, but the exterior gets REALLY hot. Right now I have rubber bands wrapped around it to protect me from the heat.

Good thing I bought it from PIU. Now I just have to decide if I want to get my money back or throw in the extra $30.00 for an Arizer V-Tower.

To be honnest I got exactly the same feeling.... twice, first when I got the Pro and now again, but I can only compare it to my original version which produces serious clouds even at 170-180.

Although if you use the lowest airflow setting, start at 190-200, pack it and let it some time for a heat soak you will get pretty nice clouds and a very good taste (only for a few pulls since it's a conduction unit). I agree this recommendations get me back 2 years ago when full conduction portables vaporizers was the norm....

After 16 months my original focus is no longer working.
To many falls on the cement workshop floor.
But what a run we had 3-5 bowls every day, no exaggeration. This thing was so durable and dependable, still worked great right up to the last bowl.
Rest in pieces my friend. :rip:

Sorry your friend passed, but thanks for sharing the autopsy pics. I'm the most curious about seeing the airpath, since that seems to be where mine always fails.

@PPN It would be hard to without stressing the solder points and wires that attach to the heater. That section of the unit is just pressed together so disassembly should not damage the body. But the force needed is what could damage the connections.
The failure of mine was that one of the thermistor wires came off the heating unit. To much a pain in the ass to repair in that small space.

I was hoping the new Focus Pro S wouldn't plug as easily since they said they made some changes to the airflow. Seems like the weakest elements of most vapes is not having a way to clean out the airpath. It was one of the reasons I invested in the Elevape Smart Vape. It can be completely disassembled and the airway can be completely cleaned. Too bad it didn't work out, especially since I spent the most money on it.

If you want a vape where the air-path is least likely to clog and can be easily cleaned .... Arizer Solo, Solo2, Arizer Air, Air2.

If you want to keep it to a reasonable price....Solo.

Thanks for the suggestions, I really am looking for any help I can get. I thought I remember reading that the Solo had pretty poor airflow in the first place, but maybe I'm thinking of another vape? Are any of them easy to use with a bong, because I'm pretty much strictly a with water user.

There are niche vapes and daily driver vapes..the focus is not a daily driver for me..it fits the niche of an on the go vape or one you would take hiking or fishing with you....the solo is a portable that can be used easily at home and is a heavy hitter for a single person or up-to 2 people....for a vape that does both and is easy to clean the boundless offerings with the vape exhale screens are a good choice. I own 4 vapes had the focus before an accident killed it..lol and it's a great on the go vape for yourself..very discreet and surprisingly efficient for a conduction vape

Hi everyone,
Yay first post on here, have been reading a fair bit of this forum over the last couple of weeks though.

I purchased one of these Focus Vape pro's about 2 weeks ago and was just starting to enjoy it and get the hang of it (first time Vaper) but the last couple of times I've used it the word 'protect' has come up on the screen then it shows the temperature dropping and you pretty much have to take the battery out and reinstall it to get the thing working again, then it seems to run fine again.

Can someone shed any light on this?

Thanks very much for any assistance.

This has puzzled me, too, for a while. I have a Focusvape Pro, and sometimes it just says "864" on the screen, followed by the word "protected", and then the thing just shuts down even though the battery is new and fully charged. My answer: When that happens, it is too cold -- anything around and below 5 degrees centigrade will produce this. Solution: Keep the battery warm (e. g. in your trouser pocket) and only insert into the device shortly before using it. That did it for me...

That's exactly my experience, it happens only if the weather is too cold.

never got this error.
but what I did notice is a battery, 2 of them original that came with my 2 focus, lost capacity very fast. I get maybe 2-3 sessions and it's gone. I use NITECORE DigiCharger D4.

In order to reply to another member who was asking me by pm if I noticed a loss in performance in the last Focus vape (the "S")... he told me he had to turn the t° up to get the right clouds. This is my experience too, I need to start at 205-210°C with the S and use 180 as a starting point with the original Focus... I suspect the t° probe to be misplaced and doesn't measure the t° of the bowl but the one of the heater, I'm assuming that cause if you wait 10-20s more after the t° is reached you'll get thicker clouds (although this is true with all conduction vaporizers). Imo the 2 last itérations (Pro and S) slightly under performs in comparison with the Original which is a cloud maker! Although they are both great if you bump a bit the t° up , the design is solid and stealth, and user replacable batteries is a big plus at this pricepoint.

A small detail I like is the shape of the edge around the top of the bowl, this inverted cône shape is very usefull to avoid to spill anything or to have to scrape every little bit in, everything fall into the bowl and a quick wipe with the finger will clean this area. The quicker device to load imo (especially with nugs broken by hands) but I saw the IQ seems to use the same idea too. This a small detail I have trouble with some devices like the GH or the Alternate, Alfa, Torch by TopBond or even the last Fog (which catch spills but you have a hard time to clean spilling into the bowl). The Starry V2 fixed this issue as well the Pax (I forgot to mention some more I think).

This is a vape I like even if not used enough, simple but make the job done!

I always start at 195C and end at 220-225C with original Pro. I'll try at 185C.
I use those pods/cartridges I got with it. I never use it without because I think without them you'll get the chamber very dirty in no time. with them the chamber is always clean and nothing sticks in pods, so very easy to fill/clean. also I use very little amount. maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of the pod filled. also I always use that metal piece because I'm using small water tool from DHGate.

I removed the ceramic filter from the mouthpiece in all three versions to improve air-flow, cloud production and to eliminate clogging it up.

Anyone else remove that filter and if so, how did it work out?

I also removed the ceramic filter and it helped a lot.
But then I would inhale a lot of particulates. So, now whenever I use it, I don’t grind, I just stuff a nug in there. (Suggested by someone on this thread). It works best this way for me.

Thanks @Jill NYC - After removing the filter I put a stainless steel screen on the top of the oven to keep the herb bits in the oven.

I also removed the ceramics as I only use the focus on a water piece. I have a one-hitter head on my bong, that fits super snug with the glass mouthpiece of the focus. I keep the little screen in place with a steel spring from a ball pen, that fits right into the glass mouthpiece and keeps the screen in place. Every 3-4 bowls I unscrew the bottom of the mouthpiece with the screen practically "glued" to the little bottom thingie, place it on a tissue and drop a few drops 99,9% ISO on it, and press the screen to the tissue with a q-tip. Just a few scrubs in a circular move and it's clean and can be used right away.

Hi everyone

I recently bought a focus pro vaporizer in POTV
But it seems different from my old one ( i bought it in a store in Vietnam). My new focus pro is in white, my old one is black

First. The moutpiece doesnt fit with the body

https://flic.kr/p/24fWELE

I changed the mouthpiece from my old focus pro then it fit normally

Secondly, my old one's airflow space is bigger than the new one

https://flic.kr/p/Gb1tp7

Thirdly, my old mouthpiece is different from the new one

https://flic.kr/p/Gb1trG

And the last thing. There is a little hole in my old one.

https://flic.kr/p/EDLiS6

Updated:

In addition, i find out one more important thing that my new focus pro heating chamber is different from my old on
As you can see in this picture

https://flic.kr/p/21CUEg5

When i test the efficiency.
My old one works better
It produce more smoke than my new one. And a little bit hotter air ( in the same 200*C)

So. Does my new one have an error? And why there are so much differences

Sorry but I missed your post, it seems the first unit you get to be an earlier version than the second one. FocusVapes added the venting hole after somebody here mentionned this issue and there is some little differences about the mp's shape.

edit: the "S" is a powerhouse with concentrates! Just vaped a bowl loaded with cotton soaked with reclaim and a chunk of moroccan hasch in the middle.... whitewall my bong for several hits.
