Fluxer Heaters, induction heaters for Dynavap

You'd all die laughing if you saw my setup for that kind of thing. I have an ancient RadShack iron that does -everything-. I'll do 0805 but that's my limit.

@TommyDee Thanks for the link. Just ordered and was a big spender and paid the 2 extra bucks for registered shipping, not sure if it makes a difference but what the heck.

Will be all set to use the flix when it arrives with fixed voltage, and shortly after variable. Really excited for the variable voltage. I love my other plug in heaters, but i think this variable voltage part will be a big thing, no having to try and dip/sip or use a low temp cap, etc.

Even with all the tweaking and dialing I do with coils, the biggest variable is voltage. For me, 10 volts at around 60 watts has been my standby staple for heating. For continued on-demand heating, 40-45 watts seems good for modulation. I have enough practice now that I can manage 60 watts-modulation using the button switch but dialing in a continuous pull just has that little extra'sweetness'.

I'm considering one of the 'right' heaters to be a VV wand with a base that has a very aggressive heater for a fast start. Even better that this "base station" should house a 4S 3500mah pack for cordless operation except when chargng. And of course it should have a nice clear display for power stats.

Definitely looking forward to your review of the whole kit @LongDraw .

@Moses Baca - Love that picture of the Flix in the dark all glowwy...

That could almost cover the whole ad... just add "FLIX" in the upper left corner and you're done!

re: @RustyOldNail's comment on Mr.C from Cali's transparency and shop-sharing ... "Love the shop videos, photos, etc. It’s one of the things that separates you from 90% of the others, in my opinion.
Absolutely agree. His transparency into the inner workings of his shop and manufacturing process is one of the many reasons why I held out to buy an IH from him and no one else.

I, too, really enjoy his posts ... makes me wanna' be his apprentice and get busy! With all due respect to Jeff (Mr. C.) Pipes does this, too. If this new incarnation of FC becomes THE official website, I hope the Powers to Be can transfer Pipes' entire thread history over from the OG to here ... he has SO much cool info. on there. Like Mr. C., he posted lots of images of what he called "Production Porn", with details of this and that. Granted, he's not quite as detailed as Mr. ... and his proven design hasn't been updated for a while (probably cuz' users have been happy with it!), so there hasn't been much recent activity... but his developmental period was really fun to follow, like Mr. C.'s is now. Both makers are awesome dudes and their products are loved by many. We are blessed to have them in our community!

If I got into DV’s and IH’s earlier then just recently, I would have owned a Pipes IH. But since I’m fairly new, my OWN selfish reasons to desire this product is I have so many 18650 batteries all in good shape and over 20 TESTED Amps. Then Mr. C found my true weakness, miniaturization.... Proper power (3x 18650), small as possible, reliable. I believe these were some of the original goals, as you may be aware, the size of the Fluxer enclosure has not changed, but components have with welcome improvements each time.

Absolutely nothing against Pipes Portside Mini, I actually got reallyyy close to ordering one from him on more than one occasion. I think @RustyOldNail's explanation nailed it about the differences about Mr.C's units that set them apart. It checks all the boxes for me: Magnetic lid. Takes 18650's which I have a surplus of. Slightly smaller build (than the PS Mini). Ability to choose coil size as well as insert thickness/material. Multiple color/lighting options. Warranty is 6 months vs 90 days (with the PS Mini).

The only thing Mr.C lacks, is another set of arms so he can pump these out faster! (Hey @mr_cfromcali, not sure where you're located in Cali, but im in SoCal if you need any help! :p)

So I have now had my FD for a few days and I have to say that, each time I use it, I'm even more glad with my decision to buy it.

Its just outstanding build quality/feel to hand, function, and performance.

I have the external exposed switch which is fine as its a home model mostly for me.

But I now can understand the desire by some for internal switch as the external does extend past the case just a bit and I think may be liable to be switched on or broken if handled too roughly during travel. I would not pack it up for travel with the batts lest it accidentally turned on.

Have a great day
Flipping off the lid is no big deal. Mine lacks any of the upgrades, only a 14mm coil.20200530_230259.jpg

My opinion of course, I prefer the simple clean look of the internal switch model, even though mine would probably never leave my house. It’s my portable/wireless desktop.

And it seems possible to turn off just the power indicator LED, and just leave it ON 24/7. I know Mr. C suggests turning main power OFF, when charging, not sure why? That would be my only concern, if it is one. Then you would have to deal with the cover much, if at all.

Just got my Flix, but then I realized the power supplies I have are less than 10A, so I can’t use it yet! I just ordered the 12V power supply from Amazon that @mr_cfromcali linked earlier, since I can get it by Sunday with Prime shipping. Will see how that goes, but I’m still interested in grabbing a VVPS down the road.
yea I got that one. I'll see if I need a VV PS first.

Hi all,

The Flix and Flux Deluxes I mailed out earlier in the week are starting to reach people. Huzzah!

I've mailed about 20 heaters so far, and have another 20 or so to go. It's a slow process.

Now that these heaters are out there in the real world ( :worms: ) a few people have reported to me that their Flix stopped working after a few uses. :goon:

I am monitoring the situation, but at this time I only have a couple of reports. If this happens to you and your new Flix dies, do not despair. Please send me an email or PM, and we will go from there. I will repair any DOA heaters, and get to the bottom of the issue.

Thanks! Hopefully, these are the exception and not the rule, but it is a brand new device and it may have some inner need I am not properly meeting. Sorry. I did as much testing as possible before I started shipping 'em. sigh...

Uh, those if you who got yours and are happy with 'em, feel free to share :D

;)

Cheers,
:leaf:

My Flex is on the way! I received shipping notification today.

My question is how important is it to have a 12V 10A power supply? I have one that is 12V 5A and 12V 15A. They both have the necessary plug but are different amperage. I am not an expert with electricity so any input would be much appreciated.

Ok so after 2 bowls I decided to follow
and adjust the coil up from the bottom height and wow amazing difference from tiny adjustment. Still going at it but so far I can say im not upset in the slightest. Will update but gotta say so far the entire process was a breeze and the attention to detail is phenominal the unit im using was marked as blemished and I can't find any justification for such maybe it got mistagged. Either way im happy.

EDIT::: I love that every corner is magentic.

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind words so many of you posted in the last few days. I don't think I had a chance to thank each post, but I very much appreciate your enthusiasm and support for my heaters! Thank you! I take a lot of satisfaction when the things I make work as expected and make people happy, so here's hoping that both of those things take place, especially with the new design.

I wanted to post a brief update on the Flix and fulfilling the first batch of orders. The first batch of 39 Flix has sold out - thank you!!! - and I am going to finish shipping the orders from the first batch before I add more heaters to the store. (I still have ~160 Flix cases I can build out, so there are plenty left to make.) I've shipped about half of the orders received so far, and am working through the remainder in the order they arrived. This will also give the heaters currently in transit a few days to reach people, and I can get a better sense of how well these are working in the real world, if people are discovering issues, etc.

Going forward - and assuming no major issues are discovered - my plan is to make Flix in batches of 12 to 18, and list them for sale in the web store as I finish them. I think I can manage a cadence of 1-2 Flix batches per week (assuming there is that sort of demand), while also keeping the Flux Deluxe list moving. One area I do need to get better at is "order fulfilment" (final processing, packaging, and shipping), as it currently takes a lot of time. I'm working on that.

I need to resupply a few components before I start up production again, especially "alternate color" LEDs. Those items have been shipped and the critical ones will be here early next week. If all goes well I expect to be caught up with shipping and back to making new heaters by Monday or Tuesday.

Thanks again for your great support!

Cheers, and have a great weekend!

I am thinking about doing that aswell, havent received it yet tho. Was it easy enough? I want it to heat low on the cap, I am guessing this is why you did it too?

Thanks a lot for the update, I am grateful I managed to pick one up in the color I wanted (Raw). Can't wait to try it! (On it's way)

Congrats on selling the first batch out so fast, you deserve it.
