Ok, finally did all the burnoffs, iso wipe downs ect.

After About 5 full sessions(not time outs)
Things I've tried:

Grind: Fine, medium
Packing: loose, tight, tight with a SS screen on top
Amount: filled up, and tiny amounts
Material: same throughout all 5 sessions (also used in solo, pax, mflb effectively)
Temps: starting on purple then to red after timeout for 3 of 5 sessions...started with blue then purple after time out, then red after second timeout for the other sessions.
Stirring: only when I didn't use a SS in the chamber
AVB: Not as dark as I like. Pax, solo gets it darker

The only way I can get the hits I want is to use a lot more material than I would like using the medium grind loose pack method. You have to fill up to the top of the ceramic. I feel as though am using more material then I do with my other vapes.

Anyone have any other suggestions on efficiency?

Mine gets very dark, and I never use the red setting. If your unit is working OK, temp wise, I can't imagine using the high temp setting and not getting dark enough ABV. I've been using electric pocket portables since the original -iolite in '08, and the FM, aside from the high starting temp of 385, is as efficient for me as any other I've used.

Hi mates, I lost the mouthpiece of my Vapormax V, and the costs of the pieces plus shippings are expensive as fuck.

For example, Azarius, a mouthpiece costs €6.75, cheap enough, but you need to place an order that costs €15 or more, and the shipping cost is €6, €21 in total.

In Ebay all come from the states, most of them cost $10 , and the shipping is $12.

Have you found anywhere where shipping and the item is cheaper?

I don't care if it's glass or silicone.

Do you have someone to compare FlowerMate V5.0s and Arizer Solo? Solo not completely storable. So I'm thinking about changing. It is worth to Pax? Or feel free to recommend other. Seeking a quality instrument mainly from safe materials. I do not want incandesce to the lungs plastics.

Max I may have been suffering from NVIS. New Vape Impatience Syndrome.

Ok finally close to where I think Its most effective.
I got three time outs and dark AVB ending on red starting on blue.

I used a fine but not too fine grind.. Pack it down lightly. I tried the "puck" method and for me, it creates too much resistance as you are drawing upward and the load needs to stay down and can sometimes rise if you get impatient which is different from the PAX and SOLO which the load is drawn toward you; it going towards you benefits you. The fine grind worked pretty well and got evenly brown while coarse was a little more uneven. The fine grind produced better clouds IMO and I will probably use that more.
I use a Standard ss screen in MP and I ran out to my LHS and bought some ceramic screens to put under the load. I used two underneath the load. Hopefully this helps someone. I will do more research and report back for new FM owners

You seem to be indeed impatient heh! My puck never rises, it stays in place, maybe because I draw slowly and don't shake the device?

I agree on the "fine but not too fine" grind. I do it by hand. My ABV looks more like fine flakes of tobacco than powder. I can get it darker with my FM5-fixed than with my Ascent set to max temp.

Color is not a good indicator by the way. By all means I think it just shows that too much "roasting" happened and could well be a sign of some local pyrolisis which we try to avoid... Usually users of convection vapes report a lighter ABV (and that's what I experience with my Firewood) unless of course they get a "dark spot in the center" (like with the LSV and Elevape if you don't stir)

Anyways, don't judge by the visible vapor exhale nor by the ABV color, what matters is only "how well are you medicated with a given material amount".

I understand that we want to get the most efficiency out of our vapes, and there are some variations between devices, but honnestly, coming from a combustion background any vape that I tested allowed me to get way way more medicated than what I would get with a joint, and using way less material. In all cases I feel I'm winning on all fronts, so the rest is really nit-picking...

Yes, I will admit I am pretty impatient when it comes to learning a new vape. Its a situation where I only have two half days to try to figure out a vape. Family and Work is demanding, especially in my field, if I dont try for the two days I get free, I have to wait a week to pass , so I usually try to dial it in with heavy use for those two days. I can use it during the week but it will not be efficient ifI have not figured it out. After I get to the spot I like on my vapes, it becomes a background thing and material takes the front seat again. Right now, the vape is in the drivers seat until I get it right and im very close.

I agree when it comes the AVB judgement and visible vapor. Its one of those habits I picked up while leaving combustion behind. I started on a PAX and MFLB which can get your AVB pretty dark and I got used to it. I typically discard my AVB due to the dark color.

"how well are you medicated with a given material amount".

Kero, you may have just pointed out one of my BIGGEST flaws when testing a new vape. My problem is that im usually medicated before I even get started. Im thinking that maybe problem #1. With vapes, Its really easy to "drive passed your destination" without knowing it. After two years, I still forget. So the new vape might be working effectively and im too medicated to tell the difference.

Yes nit-picky is the exact word. I know im definitely that way, and thats why I love FC, there are so many of us that can help me use my vapes more efficiently:D(Thanks SOLO thread)

I see Ed is designing some flowermate stems.

Also, finally did some research starting NON medicated.
Kerozen was right all along.

1.Puck method, dont pack, COMPACT. Even a little material works
2.Hand breakup or medium grind is perfect no need for fine grind
3.I took out the ceramic screens. As it turns out, no need for these.
Only mods are the standard SS screen in the MP

My packing method and my pregame medicating were the problem. Its been a while since ive had a new vape. Lesson learned. Thanks for your eyes thread.

Yes I'm sorry I keep making this language error because it's a "false friend" with my own tongue. When I say "pack" I really mean "compact". I rarely fill the bowl fully in fact but I always tamp it down.

@KeroZen what does "false friend" & "with my own tongue" mean? A word with different meaning?
& native/primary language?:hmm:

Not tongue in cheek. Really.

PS I had assumed you were an American "native", you had no "accent"....

False friends are words that sound the same across two languages but have very different meanings yes. So you are tempted to use them but you shouldn't because they are wrong. :)

Im just pointing out the different releases. Smiss has stated the V had the silicone MP, V5.0 they started using glass MP's and the V.50S has both the glass MP and the variable temp's. But really who knows I've seen plenty of vendors selling the FM with both mp's etc.

Here's an image with the ceramic? screen thing

What do you think about the V8?

The 8 didn't appeal to me, the 5's have the right sort of size and the 8's build quality looked a bit tacky. I wanted the 5 for a simple and compact device and it didn't need to be the heaviest hitter.

@the_television : I wouldn't say that about the V8, it's not bad but it's clearly a different beast. I wouldn't compare it directly to the V5. Please join the V8 thread so we can discuss it over there.

Hi.
Im new to vaping, ive had my flowermate 5 for a few months but only started using it for a month or so (and I'm absolutely loving it). Im curious however about the practical differences between it and the v5s... Would I be able to ascertain different effects using the variable temperature control that are not possible with fixed temp... Or specifically enough difference to justify buying one. The v5 is fantastic for my needs and gets me where I need to be every night, but I must admit to becoming curious about expanding this new version of my hobby.
Thanks

Ordered my flowermate v5.0 from a ebay seller 4 days ago and just got it. After putting about 5 sessions through it, I'm completely in love. I use to have a mflb and I believe this one blows it out of the water. All you have to do is click the button, wait till it turns green, and then hit it. You will get a nice cloud your first hit. So far I have used .3gs in two days. I have done a tight pack and a loose pack. I found that I could get many huge hits from a tight pack but I went through all the flavor very fast in the packed tightly bowl, almost a whole bowl in 10 hits. All my friends like this much better then my flight launch box cause if it's easy use and ability to deliver pretty big hits. I will probably do a follow up post after using the device a lot. But I deffinetly recommend it.

So I just got my FM 5.0s. What is this burn off procedure you guys are talking about? Is it simply turning it up to the highest temperature and blowing through the mouthpiece with nothing in the chamber?

Just to put in my two cents. I was worried about the burn off too, but I just decided to smoke with it right away. The plastic weird taster was present in the first two bowls but not that bad. Now I cannot taste anything but the sweet vapor(: I feel like I remember reading something somewhere that your suppose to drain your battery completely after the first charge so that's what I'm doing. And so far I'm on my 11th session. All different lengths though. Some short(3-4min) and some all the way to the ten minute auto-shutoff. Can anyone give me insight in how your battery has performed after having the fm for period of time (3months+)

@ThatHighGuy : You'll have to remove that bad word from your mouth buddy! "Smoke" is verboten over there! :borg:

As for the batteries, with Li-Ions draining fully (and the initial over-time charge, which is even more important) is recommended more to help the charging IC calibrate its capacity counter, and balance-charge the cells, rather than anything else because they don't exhibit any memory effect like the older techs.

Mine are still going really strong, but I nurture them and try to follow the best practices to the letter (mostly no full discharges and no long storage fully charged) For the former it requires some practice as the FM5 has no indicator, and for the latter I avoid letting it charge during the night (charge a bit in the evening, unplug, complete charge in the morning)

It's best if you discharge it fully and have little time ahead to do a partial charge in order to raise the cells voltage into the safe zone, and complete the charge later. And when charge is complete and light turns green, it's best to use it ASAP. The worst would be to let the device fully charged (or discharged) inside a car parked under direct sunlight... perfect recipe for disaster.

@sokesleezy : Empty burn-ins are a matter of taste, as Smiss claim all materials used are safe, so that would include the polymide around the bowl (after all it's used in the InhXXX series from Pharmacor and they claim it's safe too) as this is the one having that "scotch tape" smell.

Some people are sensitive to off-smells more than others, hence the need for a variable amount of burn-ins. In all cases, ventilation is the key, air must be moving to remove the molecules and off-gassed compounds. Use a fan or blow into the mouthpiece at your discretion (but obviously don't suck on it!) and yes it's basically just what you said.

Haha! I was a little vaped when I wrote that. Back 2 back sessions:brow: I will make sure to never have such a word slip from my mouth again. So basically this is what I got from your reply.
1.fully charge and discharge the first charge
2. Don't let sit at full charge after
3. Don't fully discharge
4. Don't charge battery overnight
5. After first discharge do partial charge (1hr?)
Am I missing anything important?
