Can someone elaborate a bit about what the "puck packing technique" is when using the FM5? I have been using the head of a nail to tamp down the material in the bowl.

If I dont have a nail than sometime I use the back of a pen or the tip of the mouth piece. Is there more to creating a puck than that?

thanks,

Could the puck be rising because I didn't drill in the mouth piece hole so the air is too restricted? I'm new to vaping so I always draw long , maybe my technique is wrong

I think you are drawing a little too hard if the puck is rising. If I get hurried or not paying attention I'll inhale a little too hard and the puck will rise...

Hello forum,

New FC member, but not new to vaping. I recently have taken an interest in this vape(adjustable temp model)and want to make a purchase but PIU is sold out and that is my usual site. Is there another place I could purchase this at a fair price?
Try alienexpress.com. Just look for seller with positive feedback

Bottom part of my flowermate is kinda stiff and it it now bit bend inside because i have to put some weigh when opening mouthpiece slot. After it is bent slider now jams bit more easily. I hope that it stays that way and whole thing doesnt break because amount force i have to use. Do you have same kind problems?

But again this cost only 50-60 dollars and it is worth that and more so i am not really complaining.

Greetings, inhabitants of FC!

I have just bought my first vape. The Flowermate V5.
Once I turned it on (empty just to test it) I noticed a very nasty smell similar to what you would feel if you stuck your nose to the computer fan outlet or like a toaster you turn on for the first time ever. I dragged some of it into my lungs by mistake (wanted to make sure there were no blockings) and my throat was sore for hours.

I have given it a couple of dry-runs, jerked around with a q-tip and Isopropyl alcohol but the smell persists (allthough somewhat weaker).

Now, this doesn't feel pleasant nor healthy.

What to do?

First welcome on board, then second: please read the FM5 thread it's not long and this has been discussed several times. Just do many empty burn-ins at max temp in a well ventilated room (or if you can't get a fan then blow a lot of air though the mouthpiece)

Ventilation is the key. You need to have moving air to remove the off-gassings. It should take approx 2 or 3 full charges worth of burn-ins and the smell will dissipate.

Dude, make yourself a tea. Preferably something soothing. Welcome to FC :leaf:
Thank you! Will do :)

Thanks! I found the thread you mentioned. I'll just keep up with the burn-ins then. I'll try boiling the mouthpiece also. A guy on another forum suggested that I put the vape in the freezer to get rid of the smell. That sounds kinda risky though...

No don't put Li-Ion batteries into a freezer, they hate that!

Again, keep reading the thread in question, many users reported recipes to remove the silicone smell from the mouthpiece (I assume you don't have the glass one) That includes various stuff including coconut milk etc!

So, my buddy who I split the cost of a FM with is now having problems with the button that turns it on and off. This is making it very difficult for him to use it. It only seems to work when pushed down from the top and then intermittently.

I can't imagine how he could get it repaired. He is not in a legal state so shipping it anywhere is probably out of the question, even if it did have a warranty. I'm afraid this is one of those situations that make this a "throwaway vape"...

Bummer, but so it goes...

I tried to soak the silicone mouth piece in white vinegar , now it just smells like vinegar lol probably because I didn't soak it in baking soda water since I don't got any in my house, been soaking with water but can't get the sour smell out

Vinegar stinks. Rubbing alcohol is all you need for cleaning, and you don't even have to soak it. Just clean with a cotton swab and rinse with hot water. The glass version of the MP is also currently available on eBay for $10.79 delivered. Glass is always easy to keep clean.

@swieder711 : nope this is just what I do using the provided tamping tool, I just make it flat and compact so it stays in place. Afterwards you just need to be careful to not shake the device too much or draw too hard as it could move the puck and lose the contact with the bowl walls.

Hey guys. I bought a V5 a few weeks ago but a few days ago after charging it the green charging light has been persistently on even when not charging and I can't get it to turn off. Very annoying and doesn't help with stealth.

Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks

I have the original V5. I rarely use it because the draw on either the glass or plastic stem is too hard. I just got a Solo which is close to perfect. I'm thinking of getting rid of the Flowermate but I'd like to know first whether there are any inexpensive stems that are less restricted. I know I can get a good quality one from Ed but I don't think I like it enough to pay the money for a nice wood stem.

The FM vape have a metal restrictor plate in the mouthpiece that contains 5 holes. You can use a drill with a small bit to widen out those holes, which will decrease the draw resistance. I believe they do cause the screens to gunk up a little quicker and require a little more frequent cleaning, but that is not a big deal to me.

A pocket portable with an unrestricted air path doesn't usually work that well. The Solo is a totally different animal (home vape that runs on batteries)- apples and oranges. Drilling out the middle hole in the restrictor plate works well though, and replacing the OEM mouthpiece screen with standard stainless steel also helps.

Thanks. I'll try these suggestions before giving up on it. I don't understand about the Solo having batteries. The V5 and Solo charge in very similar ways.

little maggie,
I gave mine it's first clean yesterday and it was extremely easy, I just soaked the mouthpiece in iso for ten minutes and wiped the oven out with a cotton bud soaked in iso. Clean as a whistle now!

One question that's slightly off topic, I could do with a new grinder and just wondered what anyone recommends as doing the best grind for the Vapormax?
The screen on this vape is pretty fine so I'd go with a fine grind
