Hey guy's. I started reading up on this thread a couple months back and took the plunge.
Paid around $60 shipped from DHGate for the 5.0 single temp unit. Happy to say it has all the mentioned updates mentioned here that the 5.0s version has with exception of the 3 temps. LED is concealed, ect.
Been playing with it for a couple weeks and have no problem only having a single temperature. Roasts fine as fair as I'm concerned.
The new product smell was terrible as mentioned many times. It took mine a good 10 sessions for it to clear up. Mine reminded me of a new car smell. Fresh glue whatever.
Once gone it was such a relief. (It was pretty bad.)
The likes:
-Price.....BIGGIE if your a cheapo like me.
-Heat up time, 20 seconds to green. Another 10 for some heat saturation, and good to go.
-Size is not bad at all. Makes for a very discrete unit that mimics an ECig.
-Battery life is good. Have not run completely out as yet. Have done 5 or 6 time outs without any problem.
-ABV is a very uniform brown with no black
The Not So Much:
-Initial taste is terrible as mentioned many times.
-Clouds are minimal. At least for me... Get more second session in.
-Holds away too much to get a satisfactory cloud producing session.
-Unit gets quite warm when doing over 2 sessions in a roll. But manageable.
Overall opinion is that this is a great vape for the money. I would not have as a primary unit but very good for back up or rotation.
OK, now the fun stuff.
Let's make this pup do our bidding the way we want it...
Holds too much....hmm, need to have the stem go further down the bowl, so first thing is to find a substitute stem. I like avoiding screwing up the OEM stuff. And you loose reference to if actually improving or not...
What I found that the screw thread is 701 thread used in the ECig world. Used with the Bulli vaporizer as an accessory. Found
here but can find other types elsewhere.
I figured the best way to go for a tip is a standard 510 tip. I have one of
these glass ones on order but any will do.
From there what I did was use a SS concave screen like
this type, a small stainless steel bolt and one of the spare screens that came with it.
Also, I used the mid section of a Bulli vaporizer to hold a little cotton to add some additional filtering. Could also add a couple drops of water to further cool down the vapor....? Never tried. This part is not a show stopper for folks as the 701 will also thread directly into the FV.
Note that this can be done to the OEM stem as well. Just use the center hole to screw the bolt into. Basically extending the screen down as far as you like.
I think the pictures will speak for themselves.
Does it work.....
Yes sir. so far it seems promising. Have only used 3 times but the clouds do exist on the second draw. Can finish the herb in one session.
More testing needed but sure seems like a definite improvement for the way I envisioned it working....
Caution:
If thinking of modifying the vapor path please be aware of the material being introduced into the heat. Using stainless steel is a safe way to go. Many metals will off gas under these temperatures and this is not a good thing.
Have fun,
Pipes
