Well I got my firewood 7 today and I'm really blown away.

yeah! mine arrived today as well, way ahead of schedule.
i concur with blown away. and i was expecting much more of a learning curve, but got good results on my first attempt (after wrapping my head around those button presses & buzzes & presses & buzzes).
really good taste, easy vapor production. great form factor. beautiful material and workmanship. exactly what i hoped it would be i think?

i will have to experiment some with grind consistency, how much to tap down etc. should i invest in a fine grinder? i currently use a santa cruz shredder, and have grinded upside down. works well enough as far as i can tell, but i have not so much experience with conduction vapes. good grinders are pricey, so i wouldnt mind skipping this investment for now.

and interesting hack re the dosing caps @acstorfer . i wasnt very keen on using them in the tm, but maybe it works better here / with conduction? too bad i sold mine w/ my tinymight..

Well I got my firewood 7 today and I'm really blown away. I have a couple P-80s and a Tinymight, as well as other good stuff, and I am really really blown away.

Please forgive me if this was covered before. There are a lot of pages to check, and this is really pretty cool. One of the things that kinda bummed me out was the lack of refills on the fly. I had a EUREKA moment. I tried putting a Tinymight cage into the oven. Didn't work, the lid didn't clear the cover. After a moment of bummness I had another EUREKA. Take the lid off...

It is a perfect fit! Load a bunch in my pocket, when I'm ready to use one, pop off the lid and throw it in my pocket, press the weed under the holes, pop on the lid when done to collect abv, and refills on the fly.
Okay, it seems I was too late to edit this original post. The results I'm getting with the cages have been underwhelming. Shame, worth a try.

Sorry to laugh, but that confirms my suspicions, I was surprised when you said you were getting good results at first! The idea of capsules is solid, but they've never delivered for me with any vape really...

i think capsules work really well on the mighty, they were pretty much my default when using it. but using caps on the tm always felt underwhelming. besides a good fit (and the ones i had for the tm were a little too lose, allowing too much air to find a path of lesser resistance i think) i assumed the heating style is large a factor. the conduction in the fw made me think capsules may work. but i guess they would have to be engineered for it specifically to fit well. materials used is another factor.

looking back at my abv results from my first night with the FW my initial enthusiasm has sobered a little bit - it just seems a little uneven, some charring in parts, a little too light in others. i expected a learning curve, so all is good, i am sure i will have to work on drawing speed & packing style.
still wondering if my santa cruz shredder is a good choice here?
i already looked around a bit re finer alternatives, i know BCG is really popular, but this is another item that has to ship transatlantically and is not exactly cheap to begin with. any other recommendations (EU)? preferably a 3-piece?

I use the Cruz too and i think is a good grinder for the Fw7.
To get a uniform avb, I stir once after 3-4 hits, otherwise I find that the herb at the bottom of the bowl near the heater is much darker than on the top. By the way, the hit after mixing are very good 🥳!!

Go FlowerMill with the set of different sized plates. Game changer of a grinder that is a true pleasure to use.

Yeah, I was so in love with the idea that I was overlooking the underwhelming effects.

It's funny, I too didn't much care for the pre-filled capsules in the tinymight. It ended up I had a couple weird lamart stems that those capsules fit perfectly into. They work fantastic in that.

If the FW is mostly conduction, haven’t you basically changed the oven from ceramic to whatever metal your capsule is made of? Conducting heat through an extra layer to get to the herb should also make it less efficient.

I think you’d be trading flavor and battery for convenience, though I’m known to suck at physics.

Does anyone use Dynavap stems with carb holes? I haven't found one that works perfectly, but even so it has greatly improved my experience using the FW natively. While the FW7's airflow is more open than previous iterations, it's still a little tight for me. A carb hole stem fixes that.

It's a bit awkward to do, but I can feather the carb just like hitting a vapcap. The ideal setup would probably just have the carb partially closed, like an Omni. Curious if anyone has found something like this that works.

I use the MVS on my firewood, it fits well and has a very flexible air hole that could be like what you're looking for, I personally always leave it closed but you can open it wide or throttle it any amount you want. To get around the draw resistance I go for coarse grinds and lighter packs, I use the simrell condenser as the tube that connects the MVS into the ceramic of the firewood and that tube is slightly wider than the default glass tube, it still fits great but I can fit the intercooler into it and like I said I think being slightly wider helps with the draw resistance as well. I generally prefer the wide open draw of the WPA over the default mouthpiece assembly literally every time, but you can't beat how pocketable it is with the mouthpiece.

The main ways I’ve seen overcooked flower are:

1. Holding the button for a long time, especially with a slow draw.

2. Covering the air intake holes with flower.

I hope that helps you avoid charring, but if you do feel like you overcooked it on one draw you might want to stir and re-tamp before your next draw so the same flower doesn’t take the brunt of the conduction.

I use the Cruz too and i think is a good grinder for the Fw7.

The heater is actually the whole bowl; there are air intake holes for convection air, but the whole thing is being constantly heated through conduction. :)

this one seems available in the uk - which should at least be a little cheaper re shipping. do i really need a lot of different plates though? i think the santa cruz performs well enough for my convection vapes - i would just want to improve performance of the fw, if possible.
the shop i am looking at currently is out of stock of the different plates in any case. the standard plate it comes with looks medium to me.. which plate are you using for the fw?

The main ways I’ve seen overcooked flower are:

yes thats probably it, still figuring out how to use this thing. when i first unpacked & loaded the fw & took my first draw, i was really really impressed how smoothly this went. how great it tasted, how well the cooling stem works. just pleasant & satisfying & easy. and this is what i was looking for, b/c i mainly bought this as a to-go option to also pass to friends who have felt confused by other vaporisers before.
looking at abv feels almost like a second thought at this point, but it tells me there surely is room for improvement in how i am using this.

and while i have obviously not mastered using it yet, i love how customisable the whole experience feels. there seems to be an amazing amount of control and variation happening between this button & the way you draw. i have not used a whole lot of different vaporisers in my time, but this feels novel to me. just need to get better at it.
ps - i found your quite detailed description of how you use the fw (counting numbers etc) a number of pages back very helpful.

while the results out of the gate of the fw are stellar imo, i do think the learning curve to fine tune the experience is relatively steep. so far i am also under the impression it is going through a lot of material. but i have mostly used a log before. and also the one who is going through material is me.

bottom line we need to get to know each other much better. but i am surprised with how much character this little firewood has, a lot more than i expected even after browsing through the glowing testimonials in this thread. i love it already.

Your Santa Cruz is fine. Just keep experimenting with the upside down grind and a not so many turns coarse grind, and the tamping.

In my honest opinion capsules shouldn't be anywhere near a vape unless truly going portable.

As I observe that the avb is darker at the bottom of the bowl than on top, I imagine that the entry point of the heating on the ceramic is on the bottom ... but maybe I'm wrong? Or it's because the air intake holes are on top?
In any case, the stirring in the middle of the draws gives me the color of the avb I'm looking for (I vape at high temperature, perhaps it's an explanation also of this observation?)
Anyway, the extraction is impressive, tasty and milky with this FW7!

Top of the bowl is getting cooled by the fresh air you are drawing in through holes at the top, partially convection heated, but it is primarily the ceramic oven chamber's conduction so it is hottest against the walls and at the bottom... To avoid any scorch at high temps I'd say you should probably try loading less, maybe riding the button less, and/or drawing faster

I’m glad that was helpful! I’d hoped that more people would post exactly how they used it to help show the range and give me some new things to try, but I ended up just experimenting from there. :)

I still think what I posted is a decent way to try it, but lately I usually start drawing earlier and probably draw a bit longer.

If anyone else wants to post a detailed description of how you’re using it, I’d be happy to try your methods too! :)

Is the firewood being sold? I tried 2 sundays at 9pm EST... well not really 9 sharp, but 4 past and 6 past and couldnt see it showing up on stock, or was I too late? Really want to get one, is so pretty with so many good reviews and Shit Snacks likes it and I chose to trust him.

it sells out in a minute these days so you likely just missed it.

They were apparently posted late a week or two ago, so some people got them on a Monday, but in general they do just sell out very fast.

There is advice in this thread about how to get one, but if enough people read it that could have just shortened the window to buy one which was already only a few minutes long…
