Lil throwback. Was finally able to grab a FW5. Always lusted after that multiple chamber integrated design.

And question for current and former owners: do you find extending the mouthpiece requires a lot of effort? Bit surprised how hard I had to pull it out.

I actually had the opposite problem, my tray was loose! I cut some paper in the same size as the o ring and put under neath to get some more friction. Maybe it helps if you disassemble it and put it back together?

I can't compare to newer fws but I like the 5! The tray is actually handy for out and about.

First Question: how long did it take you to charge until the green light went off. My two batteries have been at it for 3 hours and still green. Group G btw.
I got my Firewood 8 yesterday, and attempted to charge the batteries first thing. I tried 3 chargers before falling back to the included wall brick. I did check both battery pack levels with the Firewood first, got one buzz on each, so definitely in need of a charge. The charger that sits on my desk is a smart charger that will negotiate volts, amps, etc. for true USB-C devices. That one did not work (no light). I've got another charger that I use for a couple of cat toys that, despite having USB-C plugs, will not handshake with my smart charger. That one also did not work (still no light). Finally, I tried a charger on my partner's desk to no avail. So, using the included charger, I got the green light, but after charging for 12 hours, still had the green light. At least I get 4 buzzes from that battery pack now. What experience are other people having?

This thing is frustrating right out of the box.
So the Firewood 8 is a "standard" USB-C device. The problem is that your chargers are "USB-C PD" devices, or USB-C Power Delivery. PD is for high power devices like laptops. The good news is, it still should be faster than USB charging. I don't really understand electronics but standard USB-C (as opposed to USB-C PD) is rated up to 3 Amps at 5V. That should give you about 15watts vs. about 10watts (2.1a x 5v) for regular USB chargers. A 3amp charger charges my Mighty in under an hour.

I just got my FW8 today and the batteries have been charging for over 2 hours and they are still green. Hoping this is just because of the delay getting from 80% to 100% that happens with all lithium batteries. Anyway I'm following Pipes advice and I'll let these completely decharge and then recharge fully 3 times, before doing any partial charges.

Here's more info USB-C and USB-C PD https://www.reddit.com/r/UsbCHardware/comments/c3q4s6

Mine took ~ 6 hours. Green light went out. 5 buzzes when tested. Group G
One of mine never went out but after about 5-6 hour I unplugged it, then plugged it back in. At this point it flashed green for about 1 second and shut off. I put it in my FW8 and got 5 buzzes. At that point I went and checked the other batterie and the green light was off, it must have fully charged in the time I was testing battery 1.

Charge time. This seems ridiculous, 6 hours to charge the first time, and 5+ hours to charge the second time. I'm running them through the decharge completely for the first three charges method and I don't see how these times are possible. My Airvape Legacies with a USB-C non PD port can charge a single 18650 in, maybe an hour? It's so fast that I don't really know exactly. What going on with these? is it just a cheap usb-c interface? But this is thing is charging at the same speed of the Ghost MV-1 micro-usb port right now. It's not doing the full 3amp charge, and I've tried it with my own standard 3A USB-C charger that can charge the Mighty in about 60 minutes

At first I didn't like the special battery backs, but then I thought, one of the reasons I don't like to travel with the FW7 is because I have to bring a charger. (Generally I travel now with the ALP or xMax v3 and usually not even a second battery). So I thought the FW8 might be a decent compromise if I can charge the battery from my Macbook's usb-c port. But at these speeds I'm not sure I want to deal with it.

Also the pods. They can get stuck, luckily I have some ceramic tweezers to help get them out(don't want to risk shorting the heater with metal tweezers). I don't like banging it upside down to try to get the cups out. On good thing, carried over from the 7 is that you can open the chamber and blow on the mouthpiece to eject AVB. Unfortunately you really can't load it from above. The pod is buried kind of deep and there's a gap around the pod. Any loose material you pour in could end up directly on the heater.

Also you can kind of sort of eject a hot pod into the extra pod carrier, but it seems like this could have been designed to be an easier transfer, it'd not mad to do it this way. The reason I suggest that is because that's one way to eject a hot pod and you don't have access to a discreet table. So it doesn't look like I"m taking it out skiing. At least it is easy to load a (cool) pod, I just dippem' in my grinder like the Ghost Video taught.

But the performance and the flavor is really good. The glass stem on the 8 is much better than the Hula that came with it.... stays a little cooler. But the 7 with that giant L hook is really capable of massive cooling, too bad it can't be used on the 8.

Also the grind from my other black Friday treat... the mini-FlowerMill is perfect to really pack the 8. It works really well packed tightly... you will be medicated and you will enjoy the experience.

Those charge times after the first one don't seem right. Yes, the first one is a real patience-tester, but after that my charges don't take anywhere near that long. I would check in with Marc.

I never charged from the laptop. I just said that I could and that was part of the appeal. The current M1 Macbooks output 15 for the first connected device (3a @ 5volts), that's more than enough to charge this thing at full speed. Having said that, I never used the Macbook it to charge it, I used the Firewood supplied charger and another third party charger that says it outputs 3a.

Firewood 7 question:
Has anyone found dosing capsules that fit in the FW7's oven?
I've tried ones that fit a Dynavap and they're too small & the ones that fit the Rogue are too big.
Thanks in advance...

Guys... it's been a long time since I've been here...
FW8 ?? ops....Does it only work with capsules?? Two proprietary batteries? Explain that there... or better go read this... seems like I've been distracted with just TM and TM2.
So...I was really missing some conduction(again). I even bought an air max!.. But meanwhile I rediscovered my FW7...how is that possible. Now that I've removed the copper plates that I had put on it and that left a strange smell on my hands, I've used it again and I have to admit that this is a vaping cannon. unfortunately, a few passes of sandpaper to remove glue residues made the engraving "firewood7" almost completely disappear. A larger one in the center of the device would be nice
I took the opportunity to make a small, big change next to the button...much easier to activate with the thumb.
I love my FW7!! I don't even know how I could even think of selling it! thanks for the tip:wave: @vapen00b

Haha yeah technically, they are not even capsules in the traditional sense, it is that they are removable ceramic chambers, since capsule often is inserted into the chamber, here they are your only option, removable chambers... It only takes one battery, the early bird bundle comes with a spare, it is molicel inside the wood, no more loose batteries here, only the packs Marc makes.

Not going to work well, FW7 relies on conduction of the ceramic walls, you're not going to find a capsule that fits perfectly enough to be as efficient, and it's going to be metal etc... Not a worthy pursuit sorry...

Wow!...
Now I like my FW7 even better:rockon:
Thanks for saving me so much reading

ah!...This issue of proprietary batteries is silly... Does it have to be charged via usb?? with me it wouldn't be for long, it would quickly open a door on that!
happy to pass this one

Well it was not silly for him, as there are shipping restrictions and other problems selling with battery user replaceable exposed, so he will never do that again... Yes USB-C charging, I don't really mind here

Yeah I get that people wants to add this to their collection seamlessly and have everything be interchangeable, however I have plenty of that already, so I really don't mind another new vape that is more proprietary... I still have plenty in my collection to rotate, but I look forward to using this as it is and seeing how it fits in to my own lifestyle.

As such I already ordered the loading tool from Delta 3D Studios with some other items and received it, looks great, though I did not open it, no point until I finally have the FW8, which will hopefully be in the new year! Was hoping to get one completely in cherry wood, though that may never be possible, since digital payment is now possible, I will probably grab one in walnut if I have to eventually :D

I think at least for me the issue is less "seamlessly integrate with my collection" and more that it is a hefty premium for an 18650 that I can get for $5 elsewhere. Much respect for the craftsmanship and work that obviously goes into these. I guess I ended up landing on the side that the batteries being a let down along with the oven just seeming fiddly prompted me to pass.

P.S. I am not a lawyer, but I still get 18650s and vapes that use them shipped to me, so I don't think the law is as black and white as your earlier post alludes. Certainly if there is a liability concern I can understand a maker's decision to use something sealed, though.

Question about my Fw7...

So my bowl is pretty black (combusted?)
Is this normal or no?

I looked back in the thread and saw people doing burnoffs to clean the bowl so I decided to try that.

I iso wiped the bowl with a qtip then did the max temp burnoff. Everytime I do the burnoff I see smoke coming out of the device (bowl?)

Is this normal? Once I see the smoke I stop burning it off and let go of the button.

Then it looked like this

as you can see the bowl is getting whiter? What is going on here, is it getting cleaned or am I ruining it?

After more burnoffs it looks like noticeably whiter now like this:

Should I continue doing max temp burnoffs until there's no more smoke coming out of the device and/or the bowl is more white?

Btw the iso qtip in the bowl didn't clean any of the black off the ceramic bowl. The qtip didn't really turn color so I guess the blackness is baked in?

I know the ceramic stains but it's basically black...

Appreciate any insights as this is somewhat annoying that I can't fully clean it. I hope it's not ruined now

That was a typo I edited above by the way, I didn't mean to say money lol but yeah I don't actually find myself replacing my 18650s off and enough at all to care about that either, if I have two to rotate I'll be fine, I can send back as needed and sort that out with Marc when the time comes, worst case I use a different vape which I have plenty of as well, so I just factor it into the total cost of the vape and the experience on its own... It definitely excuse my judgment when I have so many to choose from (though I would love to work this into a functional useful state where I would rely on it to that degree so we'll see) I am still a bit wary about the fiddly bowl system but I want to try it for myself to see if I could get it to work for myself as well... I don't remember what my earlier post said, I don't think I mentioned laws being black and white, just that Marc did not want to risk anything? Yeah I get plenty of stuff in the mail, that doesn't mean it's technically not properly itemized or whatever with the post office service because there's official rules that I also ignore when I send stuff through the mail myself... Yes he is avoiding liability potential that is all I meant to imply previously.

Honestly it does seem to be cleaning itself, and that's what people say about the FW7, I've had that be my experience a bit but I get being wary as well so I'm afraid to take it too far when I am in my cleaning session and perhaps that's why the flavor has not been prime to me as it once was in the past so I'd say keep cautiously going perhaps although I don't know if it will eventually burn off everything you may want to hear from others who have actually done it or you could try searching in the thread it's getting tough though to skim! Good luck let us know

The batteries are proprietary, but also a piece of craftsmanship from Marc.

The time spent to design the casing and then the cuts/joints/springs/slides/electronics is something not to be taken lightly.

This isn’t just a square box covering a 18650 battery…well it is, but hear me out here. The craftsmanship on the battery pack alone is equal to or above that of some other sought after in-demand and hard to get devices.

Now with all that said, it is in the back of my mind, “what if”. But then I stare at my wand that I’ve punished for two years without replacing the batteries.

@Shit Snacks the cherry oven is something special, I’d sign up for an all cherry unit in a heartbeat!

The XMax v3 Pro dosing capsules fit and they do work pretty well. They are almost the same diameter as the chamber of the 7. I’ve tried these when out and about and the work. Now I’m not attempting any flavor chasing here, just dropping it in and setting it at 370+. Clouds are produced in abundance, but it does seems to take longer to get going so battery life will be even worse.

I was looking for firewood7 Heater images and I didn't find anything! it looks like the interior of the FW7 is still a secret. Or am I missing something here?
wanted to improve the airflow...
I found someone on redit saying that had enlarged the 4 intake holes and that it worked... and more importantly for me, without damaging the heater!
decided to try it and I can say that the air flow had improved about maybe 20% ??... it's another Vape! not so roasted the vapor! maybe more convection? I finished the second bowl and it's really different:rockon:better no doubt
20221212-213608.jpg

edit for the third bowl results:
I didn't change the temp...I'm at 340f/171c. first hit need 5sec after vibration, the AVB comes out toasted, not burnt... the same as it was before
Now I have more steam control, for a toasty hit just slow down the draw
Greens seem to go faster:hmm:

FW8 charge times. I don't want to beat a dead horse but I do want to share my "research". So I fully cycled my 2 batteries 3 times. Charged till the light went off, using the charger in the box, and then used the batteries until, the FW8 vibed to indicate battery dead. I did this three times. The fourth time I put a video camera on the battery. The green light went off after recording for 4 hours 29 minutes and 48 seconds (4:29:48). Incidentally, this is probably the worst movie ever made.

Now that the batteries are fully cycled I'll probably charge them after one or two uses instead of winding them all the way down... usually. But this charge time sucks. I'm hoping this isn't part of Marc's plan to make a "quick-charger" like Ghost did, but this charge time just seems unacceptable.

Can anyone verify a faster charge time, starting from a fully discharged battery?

Hi guys , can i ask iam sitting on the fence here in group E i think and had a few emails from marc ,
missed the 7 but not sure about this one ,dont need a new vape as just got a TM2 and have every other going in fact need to clear some out ,
just VAS and always wanted a firewood for my collection ,got every other artist vape but keep missing these ,
dont want to miss it this time but see mixed reports ? Is it as good as my TMs ? Which are my daily drivers along with mvs and my wee Dobby v2 ,anyway can i ask is it even as good as my tm2 or even my 1 s ?
do you need to use it with the capsules ?or can it be used without if not how much do they hold ?
and if not can they be cleaned /removed easy on the go yet or are tweezer s a must ,
what i mean is it it easy to burn yourself ,or is it pretty safe ,my eyes are shit and hands and tend to drop things easy so dont really want to be lifting hot capsules,,,,can it be left in or must it come out for packing , or can I clean and repack while it’s still in? While it’s hot ,even to remove later properly, just if out with it
if it just tips out then thats ok ,just tip it into the holder or something for it to cool like i do with the mighty ,that would be ok i guess
if its held in place then i guess the tweezers ,iam answering myself here lol
battery wise do i need the spare ,does it devour them or not bab if its TM levels thats ok ,i charge every time i have a bowl anyway ,
trying to talk myself out of it as just lost my savannah boy so skint ,but VAS .Christmas and a credit card shit ,
anyway been reading but not a lot up yet so any opinions, worth it or leave it
thanks guys G

They are not traditional capsules, it is like removable chambers, you have to use it, it's the same size as before with FW7, that's the benefit, they can be fully cleaned and swappable on the go... However you cannot do it while hot as easily without a tweezer probably but if you let it cool enough that it's not too hot to touch and doesn't stick then could be okay... Not enough people really have it, if you get it you could compare to the TM and decide and let more people know and resell it if you don't like it... I would say it's worth getting the bundle so you can try the spare chambers in the case and spare battery is a good idea always... Nice and unique, but you certainly don't need it so you could just get nothing and wait for FW9!
