No idea, I just assumed it would let me use Dyna stems since the new glass mouthpiece is a single piece.

Now that I'm thinking about it.....It might just be the ceramic piece.
No idea.....LOL! That's how vas works! Shoot now...Question later!

I didn't see the ceramic mouth piece adapter in the pics? What is it exactly

I'm assuming it's the squarish part that the end of the cooling stem/mouthpiece slides into. The ceramic bowls (holding your herb) drop into that.

I just placed my order for Early Adopter's Special and I'm pretty damn stoked!!! I'm also getting an extra battery pack so I can charge one while using the other.

The thing looks like a beast! Happy to see that the control button looks more substantial and easier to press than on the 7.

I don't want to spam him with questions. Just wondering if any of you know whether we will be able to replace the batteries ourselves?

I know it says we can send it in, I just don't know if that's just a liability thing. I'm wondering because $25 plus shipping both ways adds up. I know this is an expensive hobby, but I have no real planned maintenance on my other devices.

It honestly looks like you could pop the wood cover off to replace the battery

Probably going to have to wait until someone has it in their hands before we know how difficult that task might be.

Not sure how this would work, but I am in Group A on the waitlist. However, to keep my words short, after seeing these new pictures I am no longer interested in purchasing a FW8. If anyone would like to take my place, let me know and I'll try to assist as best as I can

Just email him that you aren't interested, then it will go to the next person in line. Otherwise, you are just helping someone skip the line.

I feel like we're a small group and there is a level of honor and honesty here.

I don't really care either way, but thanks for the suggestion. I will email him

We are a small group, but realistically no one actually gives AF. It's literally portable ovens, not some samurai warrior code, FFS. Y'all get way too culty about this stuff for real

Did you get the $54 option or the early adopter that includes it?

As Awarfish said, we can't know for sure until we've got 'em in hand but it sure doesn't look easy from what I can make out in the picture. I'm sure a DIY attempt would void the warranty.

Agreed.

I went for the Early Adopter special AND ordered an additional battery pack. (I have a bit of cash because I just sold off my vinyl collection this morning. Good timing!!)

I randomly saw the e-mail (Group E) and came here to let you guys know, but it was about a half hour after it came in so I was a bit late!

It looks like a nice design overall, but there are a few things I’d have liked to be different…

1. I don’t see why the battery enclosure isn’t flush with the top of the device…

2. The square oven cover thing looks…out of place. Like it’s not an original part of the device. I would have at least rounded the edges or something to make it flow together better.

I think that makes my first point even more noticeable too.

3. I don’t love that the little glass adapter part is still there. Marc had talked about going straight from the ceramic to a cooling stem but didn’t go that way because he’d have to have a different ceramic part made…

Maybe he tried that way and preferred it with the extra restriction the adapter creates, or maybe it’s easier to push the stem up and down with the adapter, but that’s something I’d hoped to see changed.

Edit: @Shit Snacks says the adapter is fused with the stem now, which I might prefer since it gets the silicone bits out of there, but I’d still prefer just a direct connection to the cooling stem.

If that is the same size as the FW7 adapter you should actually be able to just use a FW7 adapter if you want to use a different stem with the FW8 unless I’m missing something else, so don’t give up on that idea yet if you prefer a different stem!

:End Edit

On the bright side the capsule system and case seem like they’ll solve the issues people had with loading and unloading while they were out!

I’m sure there are some other good improvements too, so I’m still onboard despite a few parts I don’t understand his thinking on. :sherlock:

It honestly looks like you could pop the wood cover off to replace the battery

If you can solder a new battery into the enclosure yourself, then yes you should be able to replace it on your own. :)

Looks like there won’t be drops, but a waitlist?

That is how the FW7 began as well, beta wait list, into regular waitlist, this time there is no beta so it's right into a regular wait list... Once he catches up, and demand settles down, maybe he can switch to drops again with a finalized design if there are any changes to make...

I'm group C. Looks really nice!!!!!! I'm a little confused about the battery pack situation. If I have 18650 batteries and a charger already, will that work or must I charge it with a USB-C chord, charging the battery inside the unit?

Yeah so the battery pack itself has the USBC plug, so you take that out to charge it separate from the FW8. That's why it would be nice to get a spare one, so you can always have a charged one ready...

I didn't see the ceramic mouth piece adapter in the pics? What is it exactly
No idea, I just assumed it would let me use Dyna stems since the new glass mouthpiece is a single piece.

Now that I'm thinking about it.....It might just be the ceramic piece.

Correct that is the ceramic piece that fits below the ceramic chamber, connecting with o-ring to the glass mouthpiece. It has the right angle bend for some nice cooling, fully removable ceramic for easy cleaning as well... You can see it is just a spring-loaded wood panel that holds it in place.

Unfortunately you cannot use dynavap stems, if you look closely, the new stem is one piece, because he took a hula stem and fused it to the narrower connector glass stem, so no silicone is needed and it is now one piece, though it is also a bit more proprietary...

With that connected piece you could still use any stem you want just like with the FW7, I think it would be nice if he could offer those, especially if you want to be able to use a longer stem without any sliding at all, with the right size etc, though that could be a bit tricky? The standard stock sliding cooling stem is very effective and portable though

I just placed my order for Early Adopter's Special and I'm pretty damn stoked!!! I'm also getting an extra battery pack so I can charge one while using the other.

Yeah man! Just a little bummed that I didn't get on the list early enough and am in group c but no big deal! So the early adopters special bundle, actually includes a spare battery already, so it sounds like you are getting two spare batteries lol

The bundle includes the FW8, along with spare battery, charging cable (no plug), and 3 extra capsules with their case. Each of those extras cost more on its own, altogether $384 shipped within bundle

I don't want to spam him with questions. Just wondering if any of you know whether we will be able to replace the batteries ourselves?

Yeah it has been mentioned here that someone savvy could probably replace it themselves, to be determined if that will require soldering or whatever, just got to wait for the first people to receive theirs and poke around probably...

I'm not too concerned honestly, I think it's a pretty tight portable setup, having one battery pack with one spare, should be enough for me, 1 or 2 batts for 4 capsules out and about, then I have FW7 for home use as well anyway... Kind of excited because this looks like a pretty fucking fantastic portable, an easy go-to when on the go!

You can totally see that it is cobbled together, each functional part is made separately as an individual piece, as opposed to the all-in-one style of the FW7 and the limits that provided... So it might not look quite as clean (especially with a different color of wood for the oven) though that could improve a bit? Most of it is out of necessity (battery pack size and shape, length of main body for board and stem fit)

Always starts this way, waitlist in the beginning, then regular drops after.

Expect a wait, we don’t know how long the waitlist has grown, FW7 changed the game.

Edit: in Group B, somehow I got in line before @Shit Snacks ?! Feels like an accomplishment, there should be fc trophy points for things like this.

Oh sh*t. I was so excited that I totally missed that the base unit includes a battery and the package has the second. I may just go ahead and get the third but if I decide I don't want it maybe he'll let me cancel the additional battery pack.

I'm not sure what you mean by "charging cable (no plug)".

Haha yeah it seems like you missed that part, yes the FW8 always comes with the battery, the early bird special bundle includes three extra items with a discount, getting you the spare battery, the cord, and the three capsules with case

I'm not sure what you mean by "charging cable (no plug)".

I just mean a USBC charging cable, you will need to provide your own AC adapter plug for it... It must be a nice cable though, $21 normally without the bundle...

If I had stopped and thought for one second I would have realized that of course the vape would come with a battery pack.:doh:

Right. Got it. I've already got so many cables but if it's a nice one...

Can someone explain this email list. Been a Firewood customer for a while but I'm just hearing about this now. When/where was this waitlist announced?

After ruminating for a while I'm not sure if I'm that excited for the 8 when compared to my trusty 7.

I'm not the biggest fan of the pod system, unless I'm missing something it doesn't seem that easy to remove the capsule. Sure you could flip it upside down so the gravity takes hold but then you spill your avb/flower everywhere?

I hate the one piece stem. Part of the reason that the 7 was such a hit IMO was because of how much tinkering you could do with the MP since it fit most Dyna stems.

I don't know if the capsule system is worth giving up my Revolve or stinger as a cooling option.

Just kinda feels like a FW7 with more proprietary features.

It was never actually announced, in an email a while back Marc had said we could email him to be on the NOTIFICATION list for the first drop, but nothing about an official waitlist.
