I just got one of these today. It didn't come with any ELB. Also, the gong seems like it is not wide enough to work properly. When I connect the mouthpiece, or any of my other 18mm pieces, it seems slightly loose. I am assuming this is not normal. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I send it back? I am going to wait until I can test it with an ELB on Monday, but I am not optimistic.
It's supposed to be slightly loose. It makes a seal, but wiggles to allow it to be removed easily.
Just to be certain though, put the Cloud into a water piece, and hold your hand over the bottom of the bamboo(glass airpath) sealing it. You should be able to feel the suction, and tell that no air is leaking around the GONG joint. To quote the creator of the device (the real Cloud's creator hahaha) "
RE - wiggly male joint, this has been covered before but the wiggle is intentional. The previous versions of the Cloud would get stuck to the HydraTube if someone used to much force when joining them together. It made pulling the pieces apart extremely difficult. We decided to shave down a side so that when the Cloud is full inserted, it would still make an airtight seal but allows for a slight wiggle so it would be easy to decouple. That is not to say that if you pushed both joints together, they wouldn't stick, but the possibility of that is now greatly reduced."
Edit* Another thing to consider, @
poke; The bamboo on your unit may be too low to create a proper seal. The bamboo allows some adjustment by design, and therefore it could be pushed down so low that it is not sticking out enough to fit all the way into your water piece's joint. If when you insert your Cloud into your waterpiece, the metal of the Cloud (where it says HOT) hits the glass piece, the bamboo needs to be adjusted.
If however, the joint can be fully inserted without the metal touching the glass, and it makes a seal via the test I posted above, then you are all set. If you need to adjust it, here is how:
The glass bamboo is kind of adjustable. It is meant to move just a little so it doesn't do what it's doing now, hitting the table. Hold the Cloud in one hand, and firmly, but carefully, push the bamboo up with the palm of your hand, just a little bit. If it's actually just really really close to the table, you don't need to adjust it, but I personally like it a little ways away from the table.
