Yes, the manufacturer he refers to is none other than slimeball Cary Widener of High-Temp Industries.

The person selling on ebay was teamheater.

It is my understanding that he bought the fakexhale units in bulk from the manufacturer for resale.

I don't see teamheater as doing anything unethical.

Incorrect.
If you bought one of these from "Team Heater" you were effectively dealing with Carey Widener.
My one shipment from him had his name all over it.
Carey Widener, Hi Temp industries, Team Heater are all the same person.
