Discontinued Elevape SV

Just so Dab HAppy!
5/8" is what Vape Dr. mentioned, however this seems to be the same size as the original screen. I just ordered some 3/4" screens from Vapornation and will report back once I get them in. For now I am using a 5/8" screen and just forming it to the shape of a contact lenses sort of and it seems to work.

I have been using the bottlecap screen method for a couple weeks now and I really like it over using the stir lid. I still often find myself opening the ESV to inspect the material and I also will press down the ABV to make more room about halfway through a bowl and maybe at the very end to get that last bit of extraction.

Testing an unmodified ESV (just one hit), was very interesting. There is something almost magical about inhaling from a little heavy box, watching it light up, drawing for several seconds after the light goes out and then blowing a surprising cloud. Not sure on effect yet but my first reaction to taste was that the Crafty is better. The ESV tasted "combusty." As I thought about it, the memory of the taste improved (weird?) or continued to linger and improve. Maybe not to Crafty levels, but much better. Because of the combusty taste, I returned to the room where I had tested, expecting to panic from the odor. Nada.

Oh, I did no burn in. Ain't nobody got time for that!

As I type, the effect is becoming more pronounced. Impressive for a single hit but it's too early to tell.

Can't wait to give this little thing a rigorous series of tests. It's a selfless task but someone has to do it...

A few more comments:

1. This thing is FAST. Heat-up is amazing and I can kill a load in 4-5 draws.
2. I don't detect much of a smell in the room but I'm concerned that my breath might smell like I've been smoking (based on taste, not anyone's reaction -- don't want to learn this one the hard way). Anyone else sense this?
3. I'm not so uptight about the delays in the GH anymore. The form factor isn't as good here but it must compete on heat time and it must deliver cooler vapor.

Is there a way to determine the firmware version from the smart app? If so, I'm not seeing it.

Carry some mints or something to drink. Herb breath is the giveaway for anyone who knows what it smells like. Not much else to worry about, though. I used a mflb in a bathroom once and the first person I talked to afterward got wide eyed and wanted some.

Sure, understood. I've just not had that same sense with my (admittedly limited) use of other vapes.

Yeah, I had that slightly-burnt flavor sometimes, but a good hit should taste nice and clean; you might want to try a different grind/pack consistency, adjusting the coil away from the bowl, maintaining a fast draw, etc. This issue, including a few cases of definite burning (smoke), is pretty much why I've stopped using my ESV; that risk is unacceptable when stealth is called for. I'd still like to try the bottlecap screen and removing the mouthpiece screen sometime though; maybe those would help it deliver more consistently...

Yeah I'd say lower temps first, didn't you say your at 420 @Mr Mellish? Many of use here can't even draw fast enough to use that high of a setting without combustion or scorching.

Breath should beile any other vape, more noticeable to you than anyone around you. I know the feeling though, especially with Elevape bc its so easy to get a puff anywhere, never been an issue though. Like sticks said, just drink some water, you can go mint or wash hands too like old smoking procedures, but its really not necessary in my experience

Thanks for the info. Not 420...I'm going with the defaults right now and I thought it was in the 370's for position 3?

Every default has been different to my knowledge, unless they got consistent more recently? No idea really, but it was random

I think the defaults (values shipped when new), are fixed. Something like steps 1, 3 and 5? IIRC if you set all 3 of the sliders in the app to the top then plug the ESV in it reloads those default values?

Bending the coil down changes the heat a lot I think. By moving the coil closer to the sensor it 'sees' the heat as hotter and cuts the power back. When I bent my coil down I had to raise the values to get the same performance. I have two units, both perform 'the same'. One is set to 1, 3 and 6, the other to 8, 10, and 14. Both have similar performance and battery life, I think the difference is due to the coil in one being bent closer than the other. I think the defaults give you a good starting point with a flat coil.

Yeah, I'm from the early group, and everybody was reporting different defaults back then. Makes sense to have them uniformed now

Had the Crafty and the ESV turn up as stowaways after getting to Seattle. It's a bit early in the trip but here are my impressions in a quick comparison of the two.

Size: Crafty wins. The thickness of the ESV is more annoying to me than height of the Crafty.

Odor stealth: ESV wins easily. No smell while heating up and it seems to give off less smell when sitting loaded.

Flavor: ESV wins, especially at the lower temps I don't use. The ESV taste is cleaner and sharper (?). Only after using the ESV did I realize that my Crafty starts out tasting pretty good but there is always this butt taste as I'm exhaling.

Battery life: In terms of usage...ESV all the way.

Effect: Ummmm, I'm not sure.

ETA:
I took the mouthpiece screen out and I'm getting a surprising amount of backwash.
I don't have the energy to dig out my laptop. Wish I could connect the ESV to my iPad (Crafty wins).

Very interesting. Battery life is not a clearly not a strong point in ESV, even less would bug me for sure. Especially from a larger vape. You've probably saved me some serious bucks down the road by continuing to pass on Crafty, thanks for that.

And thanks for the rest of the report, glad you're enjoying the ESV. It might take a bit of 'tuning' to match what you want, but IMO when it does it really rewards your efforts.

Not saying the life is stellar but I can get 4-5 sessions out of the ESV and 3 out of the Crafty.

Hi, my ESV flash everytime I want to take a hit...sometime no but still no heat....is it a dead coil or a CS issue?

Usually the red light on top flashing when you go to take a hit means the battery is dead but I think it has been mentioned that a bad coil connection could make the red light on top flash also...have you tried charging or checking the battery level? You probably have already charged/checked the battery but this needs to be confirmed before others can assume what might be the issue.

If you have the newest app you can not use it while plugged in. The red light will come on but the coil will not heat.

IIRC you can get the same effect with a low battery. The light is part of the airflow sensor, it just means it's detected flow, it doesn't mean heat is enabled, it's independent of that function.

What does the app report the battery level as?

TIA

Battery is fully charged (quasi), I checked for a short but can't see anything (as Joe told me..), I'm in contact with Ipuff and they told me red light flashing is when battery is dead or when there is a short somewhere on the coil...although , here, it seems the short is elsewhere.

This makes a lot of sense about the flash mode thing. I have had several incidents where the ESV has shorted out on me during a session and got stuck in Flash mode until I plugged it in. I would scratch my head and wonder why I would get the flashing red light every hit even though I just started using it after charging for a couple hours. I would get back in front of the computer sometimes and plug it in to see that it still had 50-75% battery life and it would all of a sudden work again once unplugged.

I have also had shorts that have not put the device in flash mode, but have changed the temperature settings during usage. This is pretty rare but has happened about 5 times. It sucks because I usually find out by result of combustion.

I am not really sure what the shorts were created by as I have never had to readjust my coil after to fix the issue. Just plug in the unit and it worked again. It could be the moisture content in my material or it could be how badly I have beaten the battery down:hmm:
