Getting delicious full convection clouds with the new technique with the herbalizer pads
Definitely going to keep 2 oil soaked pads in a silicone container with me for easy swapping. Can switch from flower to oil in as long as it takes to unscrew and rescrew the screen on the lid. So cool
@Enchantre let me know if you would like to try an oil pad when your SV arrives. I have an extra I could give you. Hopefully it arrives soon! Did they give you and eta on the back orders?

Thought I would try thy this little mod out to see if it would help even out the abv from the Smart. It's not perfect I still have to stir but it does seem to work. I bet if you played with the size of the holes and the pattern you could get it near perfect. It also protects the sensor so it doesn't have to be cleaned as often. I used a piece of 10 micron(very fine doesn't let much air through) ss screen I had laying around but I imagine a thin sheet of stainless would work better. Just thought I'd share as I feel it is an improvement worth exploring.

What material is the white in your oven?
How much did this mod reduced the need for stirring?
For best results I stir every two inhales.

It just looks white in the pic I used a piece of 10 micron(very fine doesn't let much air through) stainless steel screen I had laying around but I imagine a very thin sheet of stainless would work better. Maybe some stainless steel foil. I cut it to fit the bowl tightly and poked a ring of holes in it. Then I wedged it in underneath the screen.
I still need to stir (3 or 4 times a bowl) but it comes out very even unlike before I'd have some very dark and some very light avb even after stirring.

Do you have to use higher temp settings with the extra screen installed?
By the way, do any of you who use the elevape already been able to remove
the screen that sits above the coil? (it's actually two screens)
According to Joe from elevape these are also removable but I can't seem to figure
out how to do this.

Thanks sasNW for the photo.
I replaced the lid with a magnet. The device seems to work just fine without the top screen and the lid, with just a flush piece of magnet instead. Tomorrow I will go get a piece of metal machines to fit the same shape as the lid, with a bit of a lip extended beyond the edge of the device for easy opening. I will try to post a photo.
By the way, how do I post a photo?

Hi All,
I've been checking out this thread and FC for a while and decided to purchase an Elevape last week, but its on backorder like the rest of you. I was drawn to the device because of its ruggedness and sasNW's great review and the positive feedback from others.
Because there is now ample time to dream about the Elevape, I was wondering if any of you have used it in cold weather. I plan to take the device on a lot of ski trips this winter. I spoke with Joe last week and we discussed setting the temp settings higher to compensate for the colder air tempatures , but given that it is August and the device is so new that there probably hasn't been any experience with using the Elevape in the cold.
My question for FC is two fold: Has anyone experienced the device in colder temps? Secondly, if not do you think there would be any harm in putting the device in my freezer and experimenting with the settings? I am worried about possible condensation affecting performance after taking the Elevape out of the freezer and testing it in the warmer summer air.
I also want to add that this is my first vaporizer, so are any pointers a newbie should know when using the Elevape for the first time (other than the info discussed in this thread)?

I like this unit so far. But there is a problem. I have been stepping down the temperature consistently, but even on a 6 setting, if I draw slowly or if I don't stir every 2 draw, the device borderline combusts.
I just don't have the peace of mind with it, always worried that I am going to get a big cloud (of smoke) or that burnt up smell is going to creep up. I have emailed Joe, but I want to start dealing with the problem immediately.
Any advice will be awesome!
By the way, I sawed off and filed down the underside of the lid, so, it now just sits loosely on magnet power. Super easy to remove. I would post a picture, but I still don't know how to do that.

Make sure to keep the sensor clean. the screen in the lid needs to be cleaned often also but you already solved that problem. Btw after reading your post I have removed the lid screen and it's working fine without it. I was having to clean the screen daily to keep from combusting and it was becoming a pain in the ass. With the mod I showed above and now the screen removed the maintenance has been drastically reduced.

From everything I've read, your probably drawing too slowly, which is the way you take your temp higher than the setting and combust it, especially if the coil is underneath the bowl as you vape. But mine hasn't shipped yet, so someone else can confirm

This is exactly your problem @dompang drawing slower seems to increase the amount of heat reaching your bud. I've said it before and after talking with Joe he confirmed, that keeping a consistent draw speed is important for keeping your abv even. It's measuring the coil heat, not the air passing over your bud. So draw speed is one of the main factors in what temp your abv gets vaped at.
I had it at a little party on Saturday and just made sure to tell everyone to draw very hard on it because that's how I have it set up for me. Everyone loved it, but I did have one person combust at the end of a bowl because they didn't listen and pulled very slow. If you dial it in using the computer you have to test the temp at your draw speed, then keep it consistent if you want consistent temps.
Also @Shit Snacks the coil is on top of the bowl when you hold it correctly to stop as much radiant heat as possible. Or at least that's what I figure
Also they have the screen replacement kits in stock, I've got one on the way with with an extra lid. Now one lid will have my screen for herb, and the other will always have an oil pad loaded
Now I will be able to switch from flower to oil by just dumping the bowl and switching lidsEdit - @Sinclue I just heard back from Joe at ipuff, he said since the battery is controlled by a microprocessor it is totally fine to leave it plugged in all the time!

Tried removing the screen on the lid and made a mess lol! Which made me give the sv a thorough cleaning. Put the screens in a Dixie cup with a tablespoon of ISO and gave the cup a shake. Screens cleaned up easily. Been using warm water and soap which is a pain and doesn't do as good a job As ISO. Cleaned the screen above the element for the first time. Not nearly as dirty as lid screens but was starting to build up after 2 months of use. Cleaned the air chamber which was pretty filthy with specs of herb stuck to the sticky corners. I'm sure this was affecting air flow. It's actually pretty easy to get clean and kind of fun.
Boy did it produce some tasty cloudy hits! The thing is it works fine dirty, except for the dust on the sensor, so I don't do it as often as I should. Stirring is kind of the same way. You dont have to but boy are the two hits after a stir awesome. Number three is still full but stArting to taper off. You can keep hitting it and still get good vapor but you know that if you stir it will be even better. I've gone 6 hits before a stir and it works but usually stir after 3. I think the taste has gotten better. Wonder if the plastic mouth piece was affecting flavor in the beginning.
Can't wait to see the easy screen swap lid! Love this vape!
