Does anyone know if the Woodscents Lite from Sneaky Pete has the old CCD-style core or the newer titanium mesh? It's on sale so I'd like to grab one to keep as a backup for my "old" Caucasian Mountain Walnut; it's kind of blowing my mind that I bought it nearly 4 years ago at this point, it seems like just yesterday.

In other news, I'm excited to dig out my Woodscents for the first time in a while. The noticeably restricted airflow (through water, never used it native) and limited bowl size started to annoy me so I ended up getting the Volcano classic back out and the Woodscents shelved. But I'm seeing there's a new tip by Simrell that uses mesh instead of CCDs for a screen and now new models apparently don't use CCDs on the heater core, so it sounds like airflow has been opened up a lot over the years.

I've got that new Thermal Extractor Chamber tip on the way, I'm really excited. This might satisfy the VAS itch I was getting that was leading me to diving into the ball-vape world with a ZenLeaf Fusion.

So I've been enjoying the hell out of my WoodScents since it arrived, but at the same time I feel obliged to eventually get these 2mm ruby balls out of the drawer and carry out the mod. The reason I haven't done so yet is that on my 2023 unit the mesh screen is threaded in very nicely and I'm not sure if any special tools are needed to remove and, more crucially, refit it; the last thing I want is to not be able to refit that screen on the heater.

Has anyone with a 2023 model done that mod, and was it easy to remove and refit the screen? Any tips will be appreciated!

Purple Urkel tonight!

I broke my 10mm glass WPA and have gotten a couple vapes that benefit from a sturdier adapter so my 420 purchases took that as a goal and I grabbed a couple really nice Simrell pieces. Both are SS lined and feature thick, dense blackwood bodies. The 10mm setup is very low-profile and probably robust enough for the PP TA. It's perfect for the Woodscents:

Hi everyone ! First post here so go easy on me . During the 420 sales i picked up a woodscents lite kit from GWNV here in Canada . After getting it i really enjoyed the ability to leave it on, on my desk where i spend most of my time during the days . Fast forward a few days, im a woodscents convert so i decided to grab a second one for my shop. When i went to grab the second one the sale was over . I looked around and found another site THC that had a full kit still on sale for a decent price so i grabbed it thinking i would have all the bits n bobs to use across both. Not being very familiar with woodscents what i did not realize was that the second one was i assume by the numbers on the bottom an older model. Anyhow the whole point of this now i gave you some background is that my lite kit from GWNV can be left on all day and the base is still not hot to the touch. The other unit is what i'd call uncomfortably hot to hold at the base after just 30 mins . Is it normal for the older units to hold this much heat ?
Thanks

@InsomniaK welcome. are you using them both at the same setting with similar extraction? If it isn't turned up too high, maybe down to the difference in woods? I think dropping Ed a message would be best.

i Have a bit of a question myself, I'm looking at building another box but with one of those VVPS instead of just having a 1amp dc supply running through a dimmer. So firstly, is the one linked above suitable, and secondly, have noticed the new digital vvps Ed sends out is 2amp. Not electrically minded so unsure if the log works out how much power, or, what. I run at 10v which would be 10watts with one amp, but 20watts with2amp unless i'm being daft. Not sure that even makes sense now but will leave in hope someone gets it or knows if amzon link is right type

Meant to update this post . Ed contacted me directly and was great to talk to . Came to the conclusion the denser maple and not having the open holes in the side like the lite version from sneaky pete was causing it to run roughly 30-35 degrees hotter (Mahogany w/ holes in the sides temped around 125f-130f) ( Maple with solid body temped around 155-160) . Everything else was equal so that was the unscientific conclusion i came to.
As for the VVPS question i have used both the easily available models on amazon.ca one is up to 12v and listed at 5amps (60watts) and one is up to 24v and listed at 3 amps and 72 watts). Both seem to perform comparably set to 10.4v but im in the same boat as you for electrical knowledge it's limited at best. I havent noticed any problems yet. If someone who knows better sees an issue please chime in.

Good morning, I have run the WS on a 12v2a PS as well as a 12v3a PS, neither will affect the performance of the core. What will affect the core is the volts pushing it, you can push the voltage and it can handle 13 or even 14v but not for long periods of time. Hope I have been helpful and hope all is well out there.

I recently picked up some 2mm rubies, bag of 9mm screens and did the Cool Kids mod on my WS . Bit fiddly to get the screens shaped and balls installed but definitely worth the hassle.
2 main improvements i noticed are that it holds it temp longer when drawing on it . Previously if you hit it a bit too fast and long the core would cool off and vapor production would drop slightly . With the balls it just keeps pumping out the heat . If i didnt spin the stem as i was drawing on it i would get dark patches of avb where the heat was more concentrated in spots . With the CK mod i no longer need to spin the stem while hitting it and the bowl finishes evenly across the entire bowl . This is a worthwhile upgrade imo. I do believe Ed mentioned in a DM he will be offering the pcs needed in a kit to mod existing units soon.
Thanks to whoever had the highdea to add some balls to this thing !

Any tips/technique to get the screen back in place? Only thing stopping me from ordering some rubies and modding one of my WS.

What i did was shaped my 9 mm mesh screen over the end of a small bit i had in a precision screwdriver set and made sure it fit before putting the rubies in place . Placed the screen over the rubies and held it in place with my fingers while i tucked the last bit of the screen in with a precision flat screwdriver. I punched a hole in one screen before i got it, so not that difficult overall . My arthritic old fingers made it work so i have faith you got it . Good luck hope this helps .

Where's a safe source for 2mm rubies? Willing to pay a (slight) premium for peace of mind
2mm seem to be much harder to find than 3 or 4 mm . I ended up buying a bag of 1000 because i coudnt find smaller amounts anywhere else. I purchased them from terp chasers club. (you will need to message directly to see if he as any left they are not listed on his site) . Like i mentioned above Ed said in a message to me he would be offering the parts to mod them soon perhaps shoot him a message.
