I have not heard of it: my understanding, at least with fresh material, sunlight and oxygen are the great destroyers. In fact, I recall reading that should you make tincture (a different process), you should store in a dark dropper bottle. I think sunlight is a bad thing for cannabis oils and such. But I'm no scientist.
Bad for storage/preservation, but good for extraction. Think sun tea.

Funny ! I was thinking about writing about my last discovery and thought someone probably had done this too. I didn't know I was making myself a Christmas treat or some Ischoklad candy !
I did it 2 weeks ago. I was thinking about an easy way to use my abv-coco oil. Searching for 20sec... Ok, chocolate !
Mixed probably a bit more than 1/4 abv oil to a bit less 3/4 pure black Belgian chocolate on low heat. Then put it in a form and spread in some pistachio and pecans nuts and to the fridge to solidify.
Ate a piece shared in two at that was low-mild effect. A whole is better, kind of feel relaxed in shoulders and a bit stony. And now I was saving some in Freezer : Merry Christmas ! Miam !

I saw a homemade chocolate bar recipe. The pan was lined with crushed graham crackers mixed with budder as a base, then a can of evaporated or condensed milk was poured on, then chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and crushed nuts were added, then the whole thing was baked. I'm thinking chocolate chunks and coconut oil might make a great substitute... If I can find the original recipe I'll post it...

just an update.
I tried the abv oil in brownies and tbh it was so much better. i used the about same amount of abv as i did before but qwiso it and used the oil in coconut oil and added that to the mix. taste and texture was vastly improved.

1. ABV in a mason jar mixed with coconut oil (enough to soak all the ABV)

2. Place that jar in a crockpot that is filled with water set on Low heat?


....straight and use the oil to cook? Simple as that? Im really interested in the major jar idea

Question...can someone help with quantities of lecithin to use for various amount that are being made? Maybe a "rule of thumb" type suggestion.. TIA!

Hello Dolly Squares. (Add canna as desired)
Ingredients
2 cups graham cracker crumbs $
1/3 cup melted butter $
3 tablespoons sugar $
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup semisweet chocolate morsels
2/3 cup sweetened flaked coconut
1 (14-oz.) can sweetened condensed milk $
Preparation
1. Preheat oven to 350°. Combine first 3 ingredients in a medium bowl. Press mixture onto bottom of a lightly greased 13- x 9-inch pan. Bake 8 minutes. Sprinkle pecans, chocolate morsels, and coconut over hot crust. Pour condensed milk over top. (Do not stir.)

2. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned and edges are bubbly. Let cool 1 hour on a wire rack. Cut into bars.

@DieHard thats the one - thanks! I have most of the ingredients, but wondering what can be substituted for the condensed milk. That was in everybody's fridge when I was a kid, but looking at the ingredients now - it's syrup with a white tint to it. But the graham cracker crust is just asking for a mix of budder and coco budder. Darn it... Something is going into the oven when I get home tonight :)

Edit - so I went out on a limb and searched the web for sweetened condensed milk substitutes. Most of them are 'boil equal amounts of sugar and milk', but then I found this, which is also kinda screaming for a cannabis infusion!

Sweetened Condensed Coconut Milk
makes about 10 ounces

Ingredients:

1 can of FULL fat coconut milk (where to buy BPA and additive free coconut milk)
ir


1/4 cup RAW honey (like this)
ir
OR REAL maple syrup (like this)
ir


Directions:

  1. In a small sauce pan, bring coconut milk to a gentle boil. Whisk in honey (or sweetener of choice.)
  2. Allow to actively simmer on medium heat for 25-30 minutes, stirring OFTEN. Mixture will thicken slightly, reduce by about a 1/3, and darken just a titch.
  3. Allow to cool completely then store in glass container for up to 5-7 days.
This is going to get some action tonight :)

I made my first coconut oil infusion last night. I used 18g of ABV (vaped on #6 in a Solo) and 1g of reclaim (from my oil rig adaptors). I made 1/2 cup of canna-coconut oil. I then put that in a batch of brownies. I also added a drizzle of Peanut Butter on top. They taste amazing. Report of potency to follow.

That looks great! PB is a great addition as well! Looking forward to a trip report!

My first couple of batches of budder I was just a bit concerned I was tossing out weed that still had active product on it, so I put it in the brownies - budder and herb. Lots of fiber, but they tasted kinda like chocolate compost.

I'm much more confident I'm getting decent extract rates now :)

Awesome! And welcome @Shyneeholographic (thats hard to type after a shot of errrl)

I'm just waiting on the Dolly Squares to finish - an hour of cooling to go. A couple of things I may have flubbed:
Not enough graham crackers (used 1.5c, called for 2)
Too much budder (Called for 2/3 cup, I used at least a cup)
Coconut milk instead of sweetened condensed milk: Instead of a 1/4 cup honey I used 3 tbsp of coco sugar. It looked like caramel - great colour!

Now that its out of the oven it's still pretty liquid. Plus the graham cracker sides were a compressed 1/2th inch, and now they are a liquidy 3/4 inch. My wife thinks it was all the extra butter.

All I know is if they don't solidify on their own they''re gonna be frozen treats to get all medicated-y with (do those words actually fit together? Were they all real words? I missed my errrl :)


Edit - so the house smells 'skunky' according to the mrs. There are 50 grams decarbing, and 2 lbs of coconut in the slow cooker. Any suggestions on how much lecithin would be appropriate? I'm aiming at a tbsp/10gish.

It's smelling quite lovely in here :)

@DieHard the second batch of squares turned out great! Found Reese's PB cup chips and used them.

I also got a 1l container of unsweetened coconut milk, added 4 tblspoons of palm sugar and 5 grams of a nice dry herb and simmered it on the stove for a good hour. I was stirring it every couple of minutes at a low simmer, till the phone rang. When I checked it again there was a bit more of a simmer and a layer of foam on top. It has reduced to about 8 oz from the original 16... But it tastes good! So I'm using it as coffee whitener :)

Coconut oil has many health benefits and is one of the best oils to cook with. I also find its one of the easiest and most effective to infuse with cannabis.

Materials:

Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil(Obtained at health food stores)
Crockpot(Could substitute for double broiler on stove but crock pot is safer)
ABV/Fresh(You can use any amount, the ratio should be "just enough coconut oil to cover the herb completely")
Strainer/Cheescloth

Method:

1. Coconut oil solidifies below 76F, so if its solid start by melting a small amount in your crockpot. Add finely ground or powdered herb. Then add just enough more coconut oil to cover the herb.

2. Cook on low for 6-12 hours. The longer the more you extract. Just dont let it start boiling obviously, keep temps low or medium.

3. Let cool a little but strain with a cheescloth or strainer while its still in liquid form.

4. Let harden and you have strong cannabis infused coconut oil. Keep in Mason Jar. Doesn't need to be refrigerated. It should be the same texture as before but just green instead of white.

Can be used for stirfrys, eggs, baking, brownies, in coffee, in place of any oil basically. I like to fry rice and vegetables with it but I would normally blend in a smoothie or just eat a spoonful plain, it doesnt even taste that bad. If you water cure the ABV before it wont affect the taste and it will taste just like cocnut oil.


I would also recommend to anyone who is planning to always cook with your ABV, just get a crockpot. You can get one under $20 even. Its good because you can leave it on overnight and not worry about gas and flame. Also the low setting is good for most infusons like this. :peace:
So I just got some lecithin and I got coconut oil and I have that I indian butter salt free with 20 grams of abv should I stir abv with the butter for 30 minutes then extract and put inside my brownie mix then use the coconut oil cause my brownie mix calls for oil then put the litheCin? Then bake? Plz lemme know it's my first time making them

I would cook your oil on low heat, don't go over say 300 degrees for 1 hour make sure you stir every min or so. Try adding the lecithin about half way through. I've done this and haven't used the lecithin. Ive directly added the whole works in the brownies, but I made mine from scratch.

You would want to strain your oil/ABV with a lint free cotton cloth, such as cheese cloth that's tripled in thickness. Your oil should be dark green in color. Then add the amount that you need for your recipe.

When cooking your brownies or whatever you're cooking keep the temp low like around 300 degrees. You will just need to adjust the time and cook it longer.

@StonedPerk When I first started I made budder, and then tossed both the budder and the ABV in. It tastes more like chocolatey compost. What I do now is like @CarolKing says above. If you are using the abv and the oil at the same time lecithin is likely not a huge requirement - it aids in the transfer of things into oils, so if you are using both things it really doesn't matter too much. My first batches were without and seemed to work fine, but now they are better :)

I'd convert your ABV into either of the coconut or salt-free butter and then use that in the recipe, leaving the abv out of it. I use about a tblspoon of lecithin for every 10g of material. You can do it on the stovetop like CarolKing says above, or bake it in the oven with the oil of choice and lecithin. Here's a vid that might be useful. It's for med grade oil, and goes into a lot more steps than you will need, but follow the part where they are concentrating their herb into oil, and do one of the 4 ways they show in the vid...
**edit - they use coconut and MCT oil in the vids, but the same process works for butter too)

If you are feeling lazy and don't want to strain the oil, then the easiest thing to do is completely skip the oil-making step. Just finely grind the ABV (I use a coffee grinder) and add it to your brownie mix. If this makes the batter too dry, then add a little extra water or oil to compensate for the additional dry ingredients. Voila! Stony brownies. :)

The argument for investing the time into the oil-making-and-straining steps, in my opinion/experience, is that the edibles will have a better flavor and texture. Also I find that the effect of a strained-oil edible can be more energetic with less lethargy/sluggishness. If you are concerned it is wasteful or the brownies will be too weak if you strain out the ABV solids from the oil, don't worry about it!

A couple of things I love about making high-quality cannaoil are the convenience and versatility. It can be used it in so many ways (not just for baking sweets).

You can throw the whole works in your recipe including the ABV but you would need to cook a batch from scratch. Adding all that to a box mix wouldn't work very well.

I made a batch of brownies once and it called for reducing the flour in place of the ABV so to balance the wet and dry ingredients. Try looking on YouTube for the watermelon cannabis recipes. It's called no frownie Brownies. They actually were really strong. There are several recipes for using cannabis flour, that's just prepared cannabis that's been decarbed and ground fine. You can use ABV in place of the cannabis.
You could use coconut oil for the brownies. The *shake flour is prepared cannabis decarbed and ground fine like flour.
No Frownie Brownie

Ingredients:

10 grams *shake flour or ABV ground fine like flour
7 ounces dark chocolate
8 ounces butter (chopped/cubed) or coconut oil
1.75 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
1/3 cup cocoa
1 cup flour (sifted)
1/4 tsp b. powder
1/4 cup dark coffee (finely ground)

Directions:

1. Pre-heat oven to 320 F
2. In sauce pan slowly melt shake flour and butter on low heat for 10 minutes
3. Put the chocolate in the sauce pan and turn off heat stirring constantly till melted
4. In a separate bowl combine sugar, eggs, cocoa, flour, b. powder, and coffee
5. Add slightly cooled chocolate mixture and mix all ingredients together thoroughly
6. Lightly flour base of 9 inch pan and line with parchment paper
7. Pour dough into pan and bake for 30 minutes
8. Let cool completely before serving

Marijuana Brandy Whip Cream

Ingredients:

1 cup heavy cream kept cold
2 tbsp. Sugar (granulate or powdered)
3 tbsp. Marijuana brandy (recipe below)

Directions:

Use a whisk or beaters.
1 cold mixing bowl left in the fridge or freezer for one hour prior to using.

1. Pour cold cream into cold bowl and begin mixing on a lower speed.
2. As it thickens you can slowly up the speed.
3. Just before it begins to form soft peak slowly add the sugar and marijuana brandy.
4. Do not over whip or you will have marijuana brandy butter.
5. Serve on top of your favorite recipe or eat alone with a spoon.

Marijuana Brandy
Ingredients:

1 bottle of brandy (preferably with high alcohol content)
1 Mason jar with tight fitting lid
Enough marijuana leaves to pack the jar.

Directions:

1. Pour brandy over marijuana packed jar and screw the lid on tightly.
2. Write the date you did this on tape and place on the jar.
3. Store in a warm dry place for approximately three weeks. Shake every once in a while.
4. Strain off liquid with sieve and pour into a clean glass jar ready to serve or use in your favourite cocktail recipe.

I'm using my coco-canna oil today to make some brownies. I'm also putting about 22 grams of mj I used to make tincture. I hoping something is left. I gots the feeling I better give these a try before I hand them out willy nilly. I've had a couple friends swear off mj after an intense "macbill brownie" experience.

Hello all! I've followed this tutorial to extract the remnants from two batches of ABV. The first batch was ~35g, and the second ~65g. After a 24 hour extraction in the crockpot, and then straining into a container to cool, I am concerned about the oil(s) that I've produced. Here are photos of the two batches. The part that is concerning, is that in places, the color and texture of the oil looks almost like mold. I'm not super familiar with mold though, to be certain. Any ideas?


One thought that I have is that the colored area in question, and the overall texture actually look similar to the medicated coconut oil topical lotion that my caregiver supplies, and I know that there isn't any mold in that...it's just how it looks, I suppose after being cooled and moved around. maybe this is just how cannabis coconut oil looks. But to be certain, I'd rather get some clarification before I try it out. Thanks in advance!
