Easy ABV Coconut Oil Recipe(Crockpot)

My favorite brands are "Dr Bronner's Fresh Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil" and "Nutiva Organic Superfood Virgin Coconut Oil." But other brands are probably good too.

Are you making with fresh green bud or ABV? For fresh green bud, lately I have been doing 12 hours in the slow cooker, freeze overnight, and then another 12 hours. But lately I have not been getting good results, because I don't think the inside of the jar gets anywhere near the optimum 250 degrees. For ABV instead of green bud, I would not bother using the slow cooker at all, I would just grind it up and add the ABV to the recipe.

Hope that helps, good luck! :)
Thanks very much for the advice.

I am actually using ABV, I kinda wanted to do the coconut oil method so I can have the oil there to add to all sorts of food types.

I'm thinking medicated stir fry :p

I cook my ABV in the jar of coconut oil (I get the big jars of Nutiva at Costco, but any organic virgin coconut oil is fine. Unrefined) in the crockpot for usually three days. I may turn the crockpot off for a few hours or overnight, but I keep it in active "seethe" for 3 days.

I'm happy with the strength of mine.

Wow 3 days! Certainly one of the longest times I've seen!

Am I loosing out on much if I did it for just 12-16 hours do you think?

Thanks :)

Decarb any and all herb before making the oil infusion, it's a simple process and, from my experience, contributes significantly to the potency of the final product. This, to me, is mandatory if you're working with fresh herb!

This thread is about making it with ABV. Already decarb'd.

I go both ways with fresh herb... some I'll do fresh, without decarbing, as I'll only use that oil for baking. If I want "out of the jar" active, I decarb.

Yeah, I was just addressing this:

My experience with ABV is that it's not a homogeneous mixture and so there may be a significant amount of THCA, hence my suggestion :) It also doesn't hurt to do, AFAIK, so why not add it in as a step?

If I was to cook my coconut oil into a big cake, could I then freeze half the cake?

I know normal boring cake freezes well. Not sure if the cold temps would have any negative affects on the THC and other goodies.

I'm baking up some ginger snaps: the recipe called for 3/4 cup margarine, but I used both ABV Coco + Fresh Magical Butter coconut oil. We shall see - they smell great!

They taste decent, too. I'll try them out on my Bro-in-law. His tolerance is way lower than mine.

I've got a 12 hour flight coming up here, so I'm thinking about taking the half ounce of ABV I've got going and turning it into infused coconut oil that I'll sample a portion of before heading to the airport so I can enjoy it on the plane. :p My question is, do I absolutely need to run my ABV through a coffee grinder or what have you if I already have it ground real fine before vaping? I always grind my stuff upside-down in a four piece grinder, then run it through the MFLB Finishing Grinder. Should I still get a cheapo coffee grinder?

IMO, no need.
I take my ABV and put in a big bowl, like a 3? quart pyrex bowl. Then I take a big spoon and grind it in the bottom of the bowl, push and twist, push and twist.
The ABV is so dry, it easily turns to "dust" with this method.

Yeah, actually, we're not exactly talking about massive quantities of this stuff, so I guess the mortar and pestle method would work pretty well. Thanks!

Did you just use abv? How much did you use?

I am curious because many people say abv is not enough and that one might need to make what ever mixture mixed with fresh herbs.

Sorry for the double post, I tried to edit the last post but its been too long.

So ummmm yeah, disregard my last post, I have an idea. But I was really thinking now that, I have had much success with firecrackers, not necessarily made of abv.

I wanted to know your thoughts on mixing coconut oil and abv, to have it handy. I would keep it in a mason jar, in the dark, for some time.

So I can grab 2 crackers, some peanut butter and just spread the abv mix about and then heat, when need be. Im going to try it anyway, with different batches, just like this forum has taught me.

My thinking is by mixing abv with the coconut oil, it would break down at a slower rate, especially in a dark cool place. I cannot place mine in the refrigerator......if so, There would be a bunch of people chasing giraffes in space suits and trying to figure out why?

I was also thinking that there would be better absorption by the abv starting the transfer of goodies to the coconut oil.

Waste of time?

Popped 28 canna coconut oil capsules today (size 00), didn't really feel anything except maybe a [1], if that wasn't placebo. I do feel a bit sleepier than usual for most of the day so far.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but here was my process.

I had 40g of AVB and ground it all up using my 4pc upside down. Took a while, but I got it close to a powder with little bits here and there not quite as finely ground. I threw that into the crockpot with some coconut oil, just enough to cover the ABV and make it an apple-saucy texture. My crock pot only has the low setting. I decided to add some water after it had been on for about 30 minutes, just in case. I stirred roughly every half hour for four hours. After that, I did the whole cheesecloth straining process and cooling in the fridge, then dumping the water out after the oil hardened.

Was four hours too short? I understand this guide mentions 6-12, but I've read so many different websites and recipes that either don't say how long or they mostly mention around the 3-4 hour point. I vape using either an Arizer Air or Extreme Q until slightly brown, but most of what came out of my Air had nice tints of green left after a session. I only use Colorado dispensary quality bud.

Now that I think about it, after I typed all that, maybe it was the combination of short cook time and adding that water in there. I have no idea.

I still have my strained ABV chunks sitting in a mason jar. Should I just mix it back up with my oil and eat it like that? I suppose the potency might still be in the ground up bud.

Re: my early caps, I just made a quick batch using about 28g of abv and enough coconut oil to provide good saturation. Made about 55 caps, so roughly 0.5g abv per cap, but that's assuming 100% extraction which is folly :)

@Cemmos I wouldn't use water like that but instead use a water bath. Any idea what temp your mixture topped out at? Low on the crock pot may have been too high in temp...

I'm unsure, to be honest. I did see a Youtube video where someone used the exact same method (and crock pot) and they apparently had good results.

I decided to weigh out 1.5g of the ABV I used to make my canna oil -- downed it. I'm already feeling a pretty heavy sedative effect and it's only been about 30 minutes. I think tomorrow I'll pour my oil back into the ABV and fill capsules that way. I'll wait another hour or two to see how I'm feeling though. Preeeetty sleepy.

Oh yes, I definitely got a nice high off of that 1.5g. I'm still kind of feeling it and it's 11 AM. Though I technically just woke up not too long ago (I ate it around 7 PM last night). The first hour I thought it might be some sort of lingering affect from vaping yesterday, since I'm normally vaping all day -- from about when I wake up until I sleep. But during hours 2-3, I definitely felt it. I was couchlocked and pretty happy just lying there watching television. Felt great.

I think I'll fill more capsules of that ABV this afternoon (2g this time, as 1.5g was good but I think a little more would have been perfect). I'll see how that feels today, then after all is said and done, I'll think about pouring that canna oil back in. Because honestly, I felt hardly anything from the oil itself, and I don't really want my ABV to get any more messy. It's a pretty nice consistency right now since it's damp with coconut oil.

Anyone try this on a stovetop? I feel like if I just did this same herb to oil ratio in a pot on super low heat for 12 hours it would work.

So I have to make a post about my experience. Found this thread early in the week and decided to test it out. Got my crockpot ,ground up 12g of green herb and covered with coconut oil (gold label ftw ) for 24 hours. Strained it into a Tupperware through a coffee filter and this was the result.
28s3jfr.jpg

Fast forward a few hours in the fridge and I now have this
efrvnm.jpg

See that little chunk missing ?yeah that got me insanely medicated beyond belief. Took 2-3 hours before it really started kicking in then I had to hold on to my seat ! It's been almost 24 hours since I consumed it and I still feel the effects. Wow wow wow. I love this site and all you people

I used this one I found online
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/grandmas-gingersnaps/?scale=72&ismetric=1

I added some chopped Crystallized Ginger you can get in stores with an Asian section. I also used 1/2 ABV coco oil and 1/2 Magical Butter Machine coco oil for a bit more body high. A small melon scooper made them consistent in size. If the dough gets soft, put it in the fridge for a bit. It's easier to handle when firm.

Awesome thanks for the tip !i just wanted to compare to the vegan recipe I'm using. I'm wondering if there's anything I can substitute sugar for ?not big on that stuff. Or maybe a healthier substitute
