As others have said, Joda GonG. @flotntoke posted a link to his thread, but as he said, he may not be making them anymore.

I also have @Oregonglassblower's carbed adapter and it work just as well, just one more piece to attach though.

Both are game changers for the nano. If you can't get a Joda, get an OGB. Better yet, get both and support this small community.

Thanks nihil, flotntoke, and howie. I have contacted Joda, and he does still make the gongs. I'll be ordering soon.

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
I generally run mine at the 6.5 setting all the time. If I were to smear a little CO2 hash oil on some herb, you think maybe turn it up to 8?

Good substitute for plastic sleeve for cleaning stem?

I love using the sleeve to clean the stem. I just add about a TBS of rubbing alcohol, put the cap on, shake it a few times and then leave it standing upright for a few minutes to really clean the screen. Then rinse.

But the plastic sleeve seems to crack pretty quickly at the cap end and alcohol leaks out when shaking it.

So what's a good substitute for the sleeve that will hold up better for cleaning?

I used to use the shipping tubes to clean my stems as well. That is, until they started cracking.

What I found works great are the brown plastic bottles that steak sauce come in, like A1 and others.

BeyondBottle_SteakSauce_00901654_n_lg.jpg

They are not too big so you don't have to keep so much ISO in them. They are much more durable than the stem shipping tubes and are virtually indestructible. They do not crack or break. There's also less waste of alcohol; just keep it in the bottle. The cap seals tightly and you don't have to worry about leakage.

I have two nano stems in rotation. I keep one in use while the other soaks in the bottle. I just swap the stems out once or twice a week, depending on how dirty they get from use.

The idea came to me while the wife and I were at dinner one evening at a local steak house. I asked the waitress if there were any empty steak sauce bottles laying around. She said, "Sure, how many do you want?"

A fun way to go. Just remember that goo is gonna hit your throat harder when not gong through water. I don't nano this stuff as hard as I do when dabbing, but it still packs quite a wallop! In other words.... be prepared to cough, just in case.

I have used my J hooks with my EVO (I actually like it a bit better than the VapeXhale dry stem) and my Grasshopper (water is nice, but just a longer air path makes the GH much more civilized). But not with concentrates or the Nano but I will give it a try.

I'm an old cigarette smoker (off 9 years now after first MI) and smoked pot for....ooooh, maybe 48 years before switching to vaping only. I don't like to cough my brains out

You will find many, many uses for this set of graduated beakers for cleaning and making:

Funny, my tube cracked too. I just taped it up good. Filled it up, left it in the sink. While some ISO slowly leaks out, most of it stays in. But a glass bottle sounds like a much better idea, so I'm going to do that rather than finagling it like I've been doing it. Glad I read this.

@BabyFacedFinster: I wouldn't go over 7.5 with flowers in my nano, even with added oil. I would say 8 is the max limit, but don't use a slow draw speed at that high of a temperature. When I mix oil and flowers I keep it at my normal level for flowers, or maybe .25-.5 higher. For me that means anywhere from 6.5, my normal, to 7.

@bussinrounds: I actually prefer using concentrates with my E-Nano, above all other vaporizers (even Evo with quartz nail), and even dabbing itself. The simple reason is flavor.

Granted, I'm not an expert in dabbing but I've never managed to get the same flavor as consistently with any other device than my nano.

I've used organic cotton and degummed hemp fiber and prefer cotton because it is less messy and basically foolproof in my experience. Hemp has a slight edge when it comes to flavor, you can't really taste the cotton, but it seems to absorb a tiny bit more terps than hemp. It still tastes better than other options I've tried. I've used nearly all consistencies successfully with cotton; crumble, rosin, shatter, sugary live resin, honey-like distillate, pretty much anything I can get my hands on I've tried and it works great in the nano. Really runny stuff is the only thing I haven't tried, but I would think it would still work well with cotton.

I've tried cartridges but they're a bit weak and not as flavorful as a good oil.

To be fair I haven't tried any of the more recent concentrate pens. They might be a viable option, and are definitely useful on the go. If you don't need the portability though it might not be worth spending money on. The nano is more than enough to get you by. Every time I try a new device to try and improve on my concentrate usage over the nano I am disappointed. If your main concern is flavor than you're probably going to have to get a nice e-nail controller with a Sapphire insert, or at least SiC, to beat the nano in that department.

I usually use 7-7.5 on the dial for oil in organic cotton. Lower temps give better, longer lasting flavor. Higher temps give bigger, more dab-like hits. That's the area that other options like dabbing, pens, the Evo nails, etc. excel over the Nano in my opinion.

If you don't care about flavor and want the biggest hit possible you will want something else to use with concentrates. In my opinion, if a top shelf flower hit is a 5 on a scale of 1-10 in regards to strength, and a big dab is a 10, a convection oil hit is around a 7-8 depending on the temps used. That's plenty enough for me most of the time.

I've decided I can't roll with the dry stem. No matter how I try to modify my technique, I always end up getting a sore throat after using it. Either too dry, too hot, or both. I'd honestly rather smoke. So I'm definitely going to be picking up a water piece.

I pulled the cotton off the ends of some (supposedly) 100% organic swabs, and tried using it as a filter in my Nano stem, but the taste was awful. Maybe they used some sort of adhesive to stick it to the end of the swab?

It depends on the brand but most of them do use adhesive. Q-tip brand definitely uses adhesive, even though they aren't made with organic cotton I thought I would mention it.

I would NOT recommend using cotton swabs to vape with unless you are 100% sure they are adhesive free. Besides ruining the flavor, it could be harmful to your health.

I was able to get organic cotton balls at the local natural foods store in the cosmetic section. I think the bag cost me $5 and I have barely made a dent in it with over a year of use. I've heard some e-cig/vape shops sell organic cotton, I think it's used as a wick for e-juice.

Hello Nano Nation. Hope everyone's doing well. I'm looking to get a ;pd; as my 1st "big" vape purchase, & have my heart set on a Nano. Two of the things that really intrigue me about the Nano is the ability to do low temp vaping & convective dabbing.

Awhile back I researching different ways to consume concentrates & came upon this http://sipipes.com/product/oil-dab-bowls-male/. I may be wrong, but I believe they're also referred to as "hot hit slides".

Anyways, while searching different ways to use concentrates w/ the Nano, I remembered the SI Pipes Oil/Dab Bowl. Would something similar be possible w/ the Nano ? Like a glass or quartz bowl/dish that was a little smaller in diameter than a gong (so the vapor has somewhere to escape downward), that could then rest on an inverted screen for support.

Not sure if you'd need the hole/holes at the top or not like an Oil/Dab Bowl w/ a slightly smaller diameter dish. :shrug:I'm unsure if this is feasible or would even work. I'm just "thinking out loud" here. All the best everyone.

Thanks for all the concentrate info @Vapor_Eyes .

So you would use like a pea-sized piece of cotton for a tiny, rice grain sized dab of honey oil?

Another use for organic cotton/degummed hemp fiber: cleaning dirty stems. This only works with the adjustable screen stems and gongs.

Get your stem nice and warm by running a couple of loads through it, or just leave an empty stem on the heater for a while, 5-15 minutes. Remove the screen with a bamboo skewer. Use a wad of cotton or hemp and push it back and forth with the bamboo skewer. You will accumulate most of the reclaim. Then simply push the gooey ball up towards the heater, leaving a little space.

Don't draw too hard or the fiber will be pulled back since there is no screen to stop it. The flavor is surprisingly good, it reminds me of old school pressed hash when I do it with a stem/gong that I've been using for flowers. If I've only been using oil it tastes like a blend of the concentrates I've been using.

If I understand you correctly, the Nano wont get hot enough for that. It needs something like herb, cotton, to disperse in so it can be evaporated. Someone suggested using a S&B oil pad so I shoved one of those in an adjustable gong and it seems to work pretty well. I use it on 10.

That sounds about right. I make the fiber into a thin, flat disk first:

Then I put a small amount of concentrate in the center, approximately one to two grains of rice, I would say this is roughly two grains:

I wrap it up, and then if any concentrate is showing I add a little bit of fiber:

I may have used a little more cotton than necessary this time, and I wanted to leave a little concentrate visible at first for illustration purposes. Basically you just need enough cotton to fully cover the concentrate. If you use too much it cam block airflow, but you can always tear some off in that case.

Once it's ready it goes into my stem and gets vaped. I like temps 7-7.5 depending on whether I'm going for better flavor or bigger hits. Sometimes I start at 7 for the first couple of hits, and then bump it up to 7.5 to finish it quickly.

My favorite way to use concentrates is sandwiching the wax, crumble or shatter in the middle and have cannabis on top wax in the middle and cannabis on the bottom. The cannabis absorbs the wax often the cannabis will be spent first and I will add more cannabis if need be. This wouldn't work very well with straight oil unless you made moon rocks or caviar with the oil and bud. You can dip a bud in oil and use kief dusted on the outside - that's how it's made.

I might only raise my temp by 2/10s of a degree personally. That would be like 6.75. I think our temps vary with the nano so that's a general temp. It depends on the cannabis and wax you are using. If concerned about any dripping wax into the unit don't worry about it but you can always enjoy your nano up side down using a bubbler or J hook.

Having a couple of GonGs allows you to use the Enano many different ways.

Closing the evening with some Northern Lights and my nano - sipping with my j hook. A j hook is a must with any vaporizing enthusiast.
I agree completely, Carol. A very useful and flexible tool that many of us seem to overlook.

I have used J hooks with my EVO, certainly with my Enano & GonG, and the 14 mm hook I have works great with the Grasshopper. No real set up time or muss or fuss, just nice cool vapor.

Cheers
