Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
I exclusively use a gong and a bubbler with my nano. Since my nano is at my vaping "station" in the house, mostly due to the power cord, I have my bubbler near by anyway. My throat can get irritated with too much dry vaping, even if the vapor is cooler.
That's not to say that I don't use a dry stem, but it is generally with my portable Fury 2. I use the Fury when I'm somewhere away from the vaping "station" which means I'm also away from the bubbler. I like the convenience of the portable set up and use a glass stem to keep it simple and compact, but if I'm not careful my throat will get irritated. and yes, in those situations a J hook will help but it adds to the overall increase in apparatus.
I love this idea of the smart plug and will give it a try. I have one sitting around that I haven't been using.
I have been leaving my nano on for the last 6 months or so, but before that I was unplugging it every night, folding up the cord and packing it up. The constant on/off never was an issue for mine. I do have the walnut model which I believe is the wood that cracks the least. Now watch mine crack. I'm gonna go knock on wood.

I do suggest picking up a Smart plug for your nano, I have mine on a schedule so it shuts off @ 1AM and turns on 15 minutes before I get home. Could prolong the life of your nano.
